Chapter 708: 242.Big Red Hand and Role-Playing Party_2
So, Brother Dog, looking a touch helpless, began to explain:
"See, Brother Cat accepted a task from Lord Kudel. The Civilian Protection Officer really appreciates Brother Cat’s combat talents. He wants Brother Cat to switch his allegiance from Maxim’s faction to his own, becoming a warrior for the Baron of Hunting.
Lord Maxim didn’t scold him or object to the faction change. However, he has given Brother Cat a challenge.
Brother Cat must come in first place in this Wolf People hunt to be released. Lord Kudel thinks this is a warrior’s journey and thus, accepted this difficult condition.
But..."
"Oh, so that’s how it is."
Sister Pomegranate suddenly understood what Dog Paddle in the North of the Forest meant by "showing mercy."
She glanced at the current individual score ranking. Bull Bull had moved up to third place with an impressive score of 642 points.
Brother Cat was in second place with 843 points, while Pomegranate was dominating the first place with a score of 880 points.
This was a complete and utter crushing.
Considering that the Wolf People’s hunt had only cleared one Baron’s territory and all three Earl’s territories in Transylvania had been wiped clean, it was guaranteed that the scores of the top ten would break through 2000 points. So, it would be fair to say that the top thirty players on the leaderboard are indeed the true "Wolf Slaughters."
"No way!"
Before Pomegranate could even speak, Lumina wouldn’t allow it. She put down her instrument and said:
"Even if we don’t consider the difference between Pomegranate and Brother Cat, giving up first place would compromise Pomegranate’s benefits. We’re all pals here, but it’s not fair to simply ask for such an unreasonable request without offering anything in return.
We don’t know the quality of the top prize, the Vulture’s Famous Blade, but it must be the best weapon players can get in a major plot because it’s the first prize!
These items with the attributes of "Famous Blade" are all divine weapons unto themselves, priceless collectibles, even in the game.
This is not something that we can give up just because you guys said a few words!"
"We will compensate for it!"
North Forest Dog Paddle explained with a wave of his hand:
"How could we let our sisters suffer losses? We four have all discussed it. We can compensate either with actual in-game items or monetary compensation offline. When we open the treasure chest, no matter the value of the items we get, half of each will go to Sister Pomegranate.
Just pick whatever you want.
Brother Cat’s nature clearly aligns more with Lord Kudel’s, which is really important for his career in the game. What I mean is, perhaps we can discuss this in private..."
"Dog Paddle! What the hell are you doing? Get back here!"
Before he could finish his sentence, Brother Cat’s angry voice echoed from outside the tent.
The other three brothers followed him inside, looking awkward. Apparently, they hadn’t managed to keep this secret, a fact that made both Lumina and Sister Pomegranate exchange glances.
It seemed plausible, considering Brother Cat’s straightforward personality. He couldn’t possibly engage in such backdoor dealings.
As expected, it was these guys who had come to negotiate without his knowledge.
North Forest Dog Paddle could tell that he was in for a big scolding. But before he could react, Sister Pomegranate shouted in annoyance:
"What are you doing? Trying to throw your weight around here?"
"..."
Brother Cat didn’t know how to respond for a moment. He then saw the two ladies emerge from the tent. Sister Pomegranate, with her arms crossed, looked at him and said:
"Your brothers are trying to do you a favor, and you’re shouting at them. Who do you think you’re doing this for? Is this how you behave as a leader?"
"All I want is to play with integrity! It’s the principle I abide by."
Brother Cat retaliated, his neck stiff.
"Fair, my ass!"
Sister Pomegranate chortled:
"I’m a vampire, and you’re a human. Our light attribute points are ten points apart. No matter how good you are, you can never outperform me at night. Right now you’re barely keeping up, but as time goes on, you’ll lose for sure!
Unless I mess up midway, but do you think that’s possible?
I actually don’t care much about coming in first.
I mainly want that Vulture’s Famous Blade. Letting you take the first place and complete your faction mission isn’t necessarily out of the question. But the blade must be mine!"
"I don’t need it!"
Brother Cat retorted firmly:
"Winning is winning, losing is losing! No more discussions needed. If I’m inferior, I’ll admit defeat. But now, we’re in a game. So, don’t even think of pulling off any backdoor deals. I disapprove of them!"
"But you can’t risk your career in the game like this. This game won’t let you reset your attribute points and start again, when it’s clear that Lord Kudel’s combat style suits you better. Even Maxim has agreed to let you go obviously in order to help you.
Don’t be ungrateful!
I tell you, the NPCs in this game hold grudges, if you keep insisting on this, you might annoy Maxim as well.
Those of us who have been playing since the first test have witnessed Maxim’s growth. Trust me; he has an extreme personality and is highly trusted by Sir Morphy.
If you anger him, you’ll definitely suffer."
Lumina put down her freshly wiped horn and chimed in:
"I think you should do this: just accept Pomegranate’s favor this time. After it’s done, you two can fight it out in the arena, fairly and squarely, without ruining our camaraderie. However, you probably don’t want to be in anyone’s debt...
So, let’s agree in advance that whenever the Silver Moon Pride Team needs help, you and your brothers must come to help unconditionally.
