"If it was the old reckless lady, the moment your rebuke touches her faith, she would’ve drawn her sword. Give her some time, little Mo Fei. She is very talented; she can learn. But did you say you talked to Avalon?

Amazing!"

"Absolutely."

Murphy shrugged and took a sip of his drink, saying:

"Avalon even complimented me on my looks."

"Tsk!"

Cui Si was in shock at Murphy’s brazenness. She said:

"The Psychic Gathering Stone for the ’Rat King’s Doom’ is ready, but if you want to add a ’Hidden Drop’ to it, you’d have to adjust the way it activates."

"No need for the trouble. Make it a hidden token instead, name it ’Echoes of the Rat King’, and set the drop chance to 0.3%."

Murphy responded:

"Then pair it with a triggered task, so that the lucky person who gets the hidden token can take it to the Blood Rat Gang, find ’Razor’ Doris, and exchange it for the blueprint of the ’Reaper’s Scythe’. That item is a mix of forging and alchemy, right?

Perfect, your alchemy hut can also make a profit from it."

"..."

Cui Si was slightly dazed by Murphy’s string of answers, then she critiqued:

"If your players knew you were squeezing them at every turn, they would definitely draw their knives on you."

"My adorable players don’t know all this, so they’ll only praise me as a generous and handsome Lord. Plus, they gain joy in the entire process, especially when getting the hidden token and finding out they can acquire a hidden weapon.

Trust me, every player who experiences this will cheer in delight because of their ’red-handed’ luck.

At least for one night, they’d be immersed in the satisfaction that their luck brings them."

Murphy placed his wine glass in front of his eyes, watching the floating halo inside.

He revealed a grin and softly said:

"This kind of joy, satisfaction, and sense of accomplishment is the reward that I grant them. We’re just taking what we need from each other, this isn’t exploitation or use. Cui Si, you need to truly understand this to better blend in with them.

Speaking of which, any progress on the inverse tracking of that pearl bracelet you got from Zivig?"

"Not yet. They’re hiding quite deep."

Cui Si replied lightly:

"Leave this matter to me. You have too much on your plate, don’t worry about it. I’ll handle it."

"Well, if you really don’t want me to intervene..."

Murphy lowered his head and asked:

"Cui Si, are you hiding something from me?"

"Nope, don’t overthink"

"Bang"

An arrow whizzed through the darkness, casting a red glow. It traveled tens of meters, shattering the skull of an elite Jackal Man Beast Tamer.

Its eye was burst open, but it was still not dead.

This creature stood at seven and a half feet tall, weighed around 300 pounds, and its body was covered in dappled fur. With its agile paws capable of wielding various weapons and its ferocious hyena head, this creature could effortlessly rip apart an ordinary adult in close combat. If they were holding their favorite weapons such as flails or maces, the battlefield would turn into a massacre.

As a result, anyone with any sense would not try to engage in close combat with an Elite Jackal Man, unless they were very confident in their skills and ready to take on a deadly challenge.

Previously, players found it easier to deal with Wolf People than with Ghouls. But today’s events had proven to them that completing the Black Iron Trial by fighting Elite Jackal Men was no less challenging than fighting the stinky Ghouls in the sewer.

But the good news was that Wolf People were living beings - they felt pain and fear, and they would weaken when injured. Thus, the "long-distance swordsmanship" invented by Little Wei Ming proved to be very effective against them.

These barbarians were characterized by their sharp teeth, swaying tails, and faster speed than a normal human’s run. They emitted a ferocious, beastly aura. They usually kept hoards of feeble but numerous Gnolls as slaves to dig comfortable nests for them.

They were also taming beasts.

The hyenas raised by the Jackal Men were as unnaturally strong as they were.

These beasts were both loyal and savage. It was said that a litter of hyena cubs could start hunting on their own in just half a month. This clearly did not align with the natural life cycle, but considering that this was a magical world, seeking natural laws here was somewhat unnecessary.

"Puff"

A second arrow, glowing a deep scarlet, shot out from the darkness, piercing through the other eye of the Elite Jackal Man who had been trying to rise with a grunt. The dark spirit energy attached to the arrowhead caused a faint explosion inside its skull.

This energy-infused blow finally brought the creature down and it collapsed on the ground.

It could smell the stench of the vampire emerging from the darkness. The Meow Meow Shark, a member of the student community, put away the vampire-hunting crossbow in his hand and forcefully thrust the halberd of his family guard into the desperate Black Iron Beast Tamer, sending it into death.

The number +5 popped up on his character screen, raising his total to 15 points. But in the ongoing Jackal Men hunting event point pool, he couldn’t even crack the top 30. Sister Pomegranate, who currently led the leaderboard, had a staggering score of 44!

Brother Cat was hot on her heels with 41 points.

"Sigh, professionals really are different."

Meow Meow Shark sighed.

He was also among the top-tier players, with decent equipment and skills. He had even changed his class to Midnight Hunter, learning advanced skills that allowed him to add extra spirit energy damage to his arrows. But the gap between him and others was just too wide.

He squatted to pull out a hunting knife and removed the Jackal Man’s teeth, claw blades, and tail fur. These were ingredients that could be collected and exchanged for useful lower-tier potions at the alchemy shack.

But as Meow Meow Shark was about to leave, he suddenly heard a strange cry.

It was like the lament of a young creature. This piqued Meow Meow Shark’s interest and he began to explore further into the stinky beast’s lair. A few minutes later, he emerged grinning from ear to ear, carrying four barely-awake hyena cubs.

Hey, he had been envious of Little Mo Fei’s Scorpion Lion before. Now, in a blink of an eye, he too had a pet.

As a Beast Tamer, a branch of the Midnight Hunter class, he should start practicing his professional skills now. He was planning to become the man of the future Midnight Cat King after all! And the Bloodthirsty Hyena would be a good pet to start with.

They were ugly, sure, but that was a minor issue. However, he did need some professional advice on how to raise this creature.

"Little Brother Fu seems to have hired a Beast Keeper named Potbelly to take care of his Scorpion Lion. Hmm, I will go ask him later," Meow Meow Shark thought as he walked, holding the squalling hyena pups.

"There are so many talented players in this game from all walks of life. Though we know it’s a game, it sometimes feels like some bizarre social experiment. Rumor has it that it might even be a wicked experiment by aliens.

Hmm~ that’s a spooky thought. Let’s not dwell on it. I will just kill a few more Wolf People and call it a day."
