(This segment is dedicated to ’Sakurababy’. Here’s your second Chapter of five for the day.)
Morphy and his Scorpilion companion were moving together. In one hand, Morphy held his Summoner’s staff, and in the other, he clutched a Demon Hunting Revolver, very much at odds with his Psychic persona.
This was the standard firearm for Hunters, its body etched with natural runes which enhanced damage against the evil.
Though it was considered somewhat undignified for a Psychic to carry a gun, Morphy had no choice. He had committed his conjuring power to his contract with Scorpilion and doesn’t have any spare summoning capacity left for conjuring multiple Star Realm Wolves like Sir Murphy. Therefore, he was forced to bolster his fighting prowess with external equipment.
But this was just a temporary measure!
Morphy had decided to earn reputation in the Fight Club to unlock his second profession to compensate for his primary profession’s lack of offensive power.
He had previously seen a reputation list at Mary’s "Scarlet Lady". When he reached twenty victories in the Fight Club, he could buy a "Mejewa Family Swordsmanship" book, which hinted at a special professional transition.
According to the experienced Lumina, the profession transition to "Sword Singer" was incredibly powerful.
Of course, Morphy himself was a novice, so occupied with searching for powerful hidden professions on the forum that he neglected Lumina’s caveat that the Sword Singer’s power came with a prerequisite: the game plot must progress to open up the reputation of the Shadow Elves.
However, Little Brother Fu didn’t have time to think about future matters. He moved through the quiet rocky tunnel, eyeing the man beside him who was wielding a hunting shotgun suspiciously. Little Brother Fu said:
"Hey, are you sure you just saw a ’sneaky’ Ghoul run in here? How can you describe a Ghoul as ’sneaky’? They don’t even have expressions!"
"It’s their demeanor! Don’t you understand what that means? That sneaky, furtive look in their eyes, like they’re up to no good." the man defended.
"I am sure I didn’t mistake it. It was carrying a lot of stuff, which means it must be slow....aha! Look what I found!"
Fu’s pair stopped.
The man squatted down and pulled out a shiny gold coin from the crack in the rocks under his feet, then said to Morphy after flicking the gold coin:
"See? I told you. That creature even knew to bring money when fleeing! Damn, that Ghoul must be up to no good. It might have achieved enlightenment and gained a consciousness."
"Your guess gets weirder and weirder."
Morphy dismissed his suspicion upon seeing the gold coin.
He patted the Scorpilion next to him. Their mental connection allowed the latter to immediately enter the "Silent Hunting" mode.
The man, Morphy, and the Scorpilion advanced rapidly, and soon they saw a Ghoul filled with bags of all sizes near the entrance of the cave, "scratching the wall."
Well, it was actually trying to grab a hidden board on the upper part of the wall. But the Ghoul’s claws were already highly mutated and incapable of executing the usual grabbing movements. The Ghoul’s fumbling and jumping around was comical, and each jump shook more gold coins out of its backpack.
"A mobile treasure chest monster has appeared! It must be one of those treasure-stealing Goblins, the rare dungeon creatures spoken of in legends!"
The man excitedly lifted his gun to aim, but Morphy pressed down his gun barrel.
Little Brother Fu hid cautiously and threw out a scout spell. The feedback was odd:
Name: Plague Rat King - Vladimir Zwigg
Status: Cunning Magician’s Puppet - Ghoul
Level: 14 - Black Iron - Rare
Profession: Level 10 Cunning Magician/ Level 7 Coffin Bearer/ Merchant - Speculator
Condition: Multiple Weakness· Lost Ghost· Panicked· Photophobic
Rating: Dangerous· Neutral
"It’s got a name and an intimidating title, but it’s also shown as a peculiar puppet."
Morphy quietly told his buddy:
"This is a rare, Black Iron creature. Don’t engage, a scratch from it could kill you. But its alignment is neutral. I’ll approach it first and assess the situation. You can fire the gun if anything goes wrong."
"Okay, be careful."
The man carefully hid behind a rock, not rushing forward to create trouble. Morphy fine-tuned the microphone plugin on the Calculating Pearl, took a deep breath, grabbed his staff and gun, and leaped out.
"Don’t move!"
He shouted and fired a shot at the sneaky Ghoul.
To his surprise, the Ghoul, like a human, raised its hands in surrender.
It tried to say something, but the voice box of this Ghoul puppet was decaying and could only produce a mournful sound similar to a ghost’s wailing.
But as a cunning magician, who had just escaped from Murphy, Zivig naturally had ways. He manipulated the Ghoul to wave its claws while using his spiritual energy to simulate a weak voice and speak directly into Little Brother Fu’s mind:
"Ah, Sir Murphy’s warrior, please, there’s no need to be so tense!"
"Huh? You can talk? What kind of evil magic is this?"
Hearing a weak and odd voice in his head unexpectedly, Little Brother Fu became more nervous. Most importantly, the Calculating Pearl was warning him that the other party was implementing a peculiar process known as "Mind Resonance."
Although he doesn’t know what this person is up to, if allowed to complete this process.... well, the outcome probably wouldn’t be good for him.
