Chapter 592: 203. Baron Rim’s Way of Making Money - Extra update from Alliance Hierarch, Asking for Monthly Votes!【2/15】_3
Phemys laughed with great delight, speaking with the kind of layered, subtle implication befitting a true vampire:
"Good people can’t handle good whips, after all, this weapon has never symbolized anything beautiful since its inception, Murphy. You really are a natural midnight rascal."
"But you are, after all, a whip expert, so I guess we’re even in that regard."
---
The young lady has changed greatly.
She wants to start a life truly belonging to herself, which seems to trigger a transformation from within and a detachment from the rigid life centered around family doctrines. No longer a puppet on string, she is graced with real freedom. Murphy is pleased to see such changes.
Fundamentally, he doesn’t enjoy befriending dullards.
After taking some time to learn whip skills and acquiring a copy of "Guide to the Use of Alien Weapons" authored by Salockdale from the young lady, Murphy, nursing his healing neck and cheek that got sliced open by the snake-like whip, leisurely left the Blood Vulture Corridor.
Underneath the midnight sky, the vampire couldn’t help but marvel. The whip in Phemys’ hands seemed to be imbued with a soul.
It is fierce and malicious, like a serpent eager for fresh blood.
Uh, a Blood Race girl with a whip. Cool!
The young players are likely to go crazy over Rich Lolita’s transformation in the future.
Murphy unfurled his Blood Wings and effortlessly rose into the sky, starting his nightly patrol over his domain. He didn’t head to the old city ready for reconstruction or to the forward camp, instead, he left the range of the Blood Vulture Corridor, flying towards the northern night sky.
He planned to visit Rim Barron’s territory.
He wanted to see with his own eyes the regions that were about to be chosen as collective farms under his orders, where the relocated subjects from the surrounding areas would reside.
Unexpectedly, Murphy detected a familiar sensation along the way and descended towards the hillocks below, landing next to a chaotic Gnoll den amidst the crow-like cry of the Blood-Drinking Spirit Vulture Refuno.
He looked ahead.
His "monster" was leading the three equally silent descendants, wantonly slaughtering the Gnoll thieves’ nest before them with an intensity befitting a tiger entering a flock of sheep.
In the past in Transylvania, such frenzied killings by vampires would only be for food or revenge.
However, the vampires of the Blood Vulture clan have many quirks. They pride themselves on tradition and never feed on the blood of anything other than humans. Of course, the fat mice reared in Cui Si’s manor don’t count because Cui Si is not a typical Lesembre vampire.
Thus, it can be inferred, Maxim and his descendants’ midnight hunt stems from a more pragmatic reason.
Murphy did not disrupt Maxim’s fight but closed his eyes and switched to Refuno’s perspective, quickly flying over Rim Baron’s territory at night.
Through Refuno’s rapid flight and reconnaissance, Murphy was surprised to discover that there were no traces of any large Gnoll settlements within the five villages in the entire Rim Baron’s territory. However, only a few days ago, this place was filled with big and small Gnoll gangs’ camps like the rest of Transylvania.
That can only mean that in Murphy’s absence, Maxim had begun to fulfill his duties as a Baron. Unfortunately, this was not what Murphy wanted to see.
Minutes later, Maxim, seeped in an aura of bloodshed, arrived next to Murphy, and said:
"Lord, have you come to inspect the locations for those farms? I’ve already instructed the head of Rim Village, Berkeley, to clear the area near the farms with his villagers. They’ve cut down many trees too. As soon as the villagers arrive, they can start building."
"I don’t doubt your execution, but you do know that as a Baron, you should oversee the overall situation, not personally run here to slaughter these irrelevant Gnolls, right?"
Murphy sighed and said:
"If you kill them all, then where are my warriors going to find their mission targets? You know, Milian issues tasks every day, asking the warriors to bring back 10 pairs of Gnoll claws."
"They can go further afield."
Maxim sheathed Jed’s blade, nonchalantly saying:
"There are wolf people everywhere in Transylvania, and we can’t exterminate them all. I just feel an unspent energy and desire to fight in the night. Besides, the Combat Club will soon open, and we’ll need some elite monsters to fill up the place, as you said, the warriors want worthy challenges."
In the darkness behind him, three vampire descendants of the black iron rank were dragging away four or five half-dead elite werewolves and gnoll geomancers from the battlefield strewn with bodies using chains.
Okay.
This reasoning is indeed something Murphy hadn’t thought of.
Not only is Maxim the Baron of Rim Village and the commander of Cadman People’s Army, he also manages the Combat Club.
Elite dangerous monsters don’t just respawn in the arena on their own. This ’Boss’ Maxim has to personally catch them with his Descendants.
Indeed, behind every successful gaming strategy is NPCs soldiering on.
Man, it’s quite sad when you put it like that.
"Do you think it’s time for the Combat Club to assemble a slave-hunting team?"
Murphy asked, to which Maxim replied:
"Actually, I have a better idea. My Lord, what if I assign elite monster bounty hunting to your warriors, then throw the monsters they caught into the arena to face them? We’d make them pay to challenge monsters they captured themselves...
Err, it sounds strange when I say it like that.
But I believe it can work. As long as I can reward the warriors enough, they should be willing to do it. Judging from the bets placed during the last Combat Club event, I’d make a hefty profit just by offering a bit of gold or some weapons and armor."
"Hmm, not bad. This change in thinking proves that you’re indeed growing. This is exactly what I wanted to see."
Murphy nodded in satisfaction, then added:
"But once the communal farms are established, you’ll probably be less free. What I mean is, you have to perform your Lordly managerial duties."
"But I’m planning to appoint my knights."
Maxim, following behind Murphy, spread his wings to take off, casually remarking:
"I’m about to appoint five knights. I believe they can take over my managerial duties. In the end, I might be better suited to being a warrior rather than a ruler. Just like the lead wolf of the Wolf King, to stay alert at all times, to stay fierce, to stay hungry.
You need my strength far more than my subjects need my wisdom.
After all, I’m not particularly known for my wisdom."
"Whatever you say."
Murphy couldn’t be bothered to correct Maxim’s conceptual switch. It seems that this monster truly has no interest in managing or lording over others. So, he changed the topic, saying:
"The Blood Covenant Knight Order has arrived at the Crimson Castle, but their leader has disrespected your companion, Adel. Well, you know, there are things that Phemys and I can’t do because of our status..."
"Understood, my lord."
Maxim wore an eager smile under his helmet, murmuring:
"Your warhound is willing to share your worries."
"But he is a powerful Silver Grade Bow Knight, you might need to face multiple losses before you taste the sweet wine of victory."
"Hmm, isn’t that better? Things that come easily have no value for collection. Look, I have been influenced by your warriors and their picky nature towards rewards. However, as you said, it’s not a bad thing."
