Chapter 580: The Years When I Was the Village Chief in the Game_1
"Thank you all, warriors, for choosing to join the Count Cardman’s Administrative Office. On behalf of the entire governing system under the Count, I welcome your arrival."
In the backyard of the administrative mansion, Baroness Milian, the Crimson Regent, is addressing the dozen-plus newly hired administrative players. To these players, this is more like a transitional CG for a "career mission introduction".
The Baroness had previously learned a whole set of rhetoric from Sir Murphy and studied it diligently. Now, it’s coming into play.
A few veteran players onlookers are whispering among themselves.
"Tell me, are the perks of this administrative job really that good? A 20 gold soul microphone plug-in is being given out for free! Plus, they’re giving away four Spiritual Business Bags and a long-term rental personal vehicle from the Administrative Office. Goddammit! Are they handing special costumes too?"
Lead Dove, leaning on his family guard’s staff, looks on in envy as these new players clumsily insert their plug-ins into the Calculating Pearl.
Now a Blood Inquisitor, he grumbles to the old administrative player, Half hanging brother, beside him:
"We didn’t get this treatment before! And what’s with your four guards? Just yesterday you didn’t have them, are you trying to form a beauty guard like Card Colonel?"
"Well, you said it, special perks for special professions."
Half hanging brother, looking smug, waves his hand, then explains quietly to his companions:
"The moment I logged in today, I received a task. The dev team has adjusted the plan and positioning for the administrative profession. As we have to deal with territory affairs daily, it’s bound to affect our personal strength growth, so the Count has ordered special care for us.
Now, once an administrative reaches ’Acting Village Chief’, they can borrow two veterans from the special defense department of the Cadman People’s Army as security personnel.
Because I hold a formal position, I can borrow four.
That white-haired vampire Maxim is quite knowledgeable. He let me choose evenly among male and female veterans from the veterans, but I need to pay them a salary, five gold coins per person per week.
I’ve asked him and Maxim said the Adventurer Guild just established and can’t spare personnel. But after some time when guild leader Natalie settles down, we administrators will be able to recruit retired old hunters from the witch hunters as personal guards.
I estimate then there might open a ’special recruitment’ channel.
Oh, going monster hunting with four elite NPCs, even the thought is thrilling!"
"Acting Village Chief? So, the next level for administrative positions is Official Village Chief?"
Good Dove Dove humbly asked:
"How would you get through the Black Iron Trial then?"
"You’ve chosen the administrative profession already, and you’re still worried about the Black Iron Trial? That’s a challenge for you combat professionals."
Half hanging brother replies,
"I just read the detailed explanation of the new administrative profession system. Simply put, our profession doesn’t rely on leveling by fighting monsters, but on a weekly inspection of work achievements by the territory administrative office. As long as you meet the quota four times in a row, you can be promoted.
Think about it, I, as a camp manager, have to spend at least 4 hours a day handling public affairs. It will only get busier with the advancement of positions.
I personally believe, once an administrative’s position is promoted to ’Acting Town Mayor’, the player would have hardly any time to practise personal strength.
So, this profession system is clearly for those who don’t enjoy fighting and killing but prefer playing strategy games.
An Official Village Chief can borrow 4 guards and has a special recruitment slot to freely recruit NPCs as Chief Security Officer. While for an Official Town Mayor, you’d have 12 guards and two special recruitment slots. That’s 12 fully-armed veterans that could form three combat squads.
That’d be a mini-boss in a dungeon.
If you can recruit powerful wild elite NPCs as Security Officers, that would mean a Mayor can move as a small troop.
Also, if a fight occurs within their management area, Village Chiefs and Mayors have the authority to temporarily recruit a certain number of militia.
You guys go the quality route, while we have to walk the quantity route in managing the overall situation.
Do you get what I’m saying now?"
Good Dove Dove’s eyes widen after listening, and he exclaims:
"Christ!
It’s like we’re playing Witcher 3 while you guys are playing Mount & Blade! How are we supposed to fight?!
If the administrative player levels up and conflicts with combat players, they wouldn’t even need to fight. A wave of their hand could have their guards wipe us out."
"It’s not as ridiculous as you think. The dev team must have considered job balance. Why would they give you such heavenly perks?"
Half hanging brother shakes his head,
"Choosing administrative profession basically means saying farewell to strength and intensity. An adept assassin can easily dispose a high-ranking administrative player. Also, the Administrative Office only covers one third of the outfitting and training costs for your guards.
That means you have to foot their bills yourself. If you treat guards badly, they might just turn against you.
We have to believe the dev team’s quirky taste in this regard...
But we’re players, so even if we die, it’s only for 3 days, and we just have to spend extra money to recruit guards again.
If I had to say, I guess this probably represents the dev team’s attempt and breakthrough in gameplay."
