Chapter 1634: 548. Ah, Murphy has encountered a group of rats!_2
"Back when Charlemagne the Clan Leader was personally executed by Lord Pa Ying, I was just a fledgling who had only recently entered the clan. I didn’t even possess my own bloodstone ring. But perhaps that wasn’t entirely a bad thing—my weakness saved me from the terrifying judgement of that ’Punitive Expedition.’
I was one of the last ninety-nine sons of the Blood Fear.
We were ordered to wear shackles on our wrists and ankles and forced to cross the entire continent barefoot, only to be exiled to the Misty Coast. At the time, I was as old as you are now, maybe even younger. I was foolish, naive, and filled with malicious ignorance toward the world.
Lord Pa Ying told us this was the last mercy we would ever be granted. Then he tossed us a ship and seven days’ worth of provisions—and abandoned us.
We thought we had finally survived. As it turned out, we were far too optimistic.
When we tried to return to the continent and set foot on land, we were met with wolf people roaming the coast and other monsters. By dawn on the seventh day, only thirty-seven of my ninety-nine brethren were still alive.
We realized that heading out into the sea was our only path to survival. So, thirty-seven landlubbers began their arduous struggle on the ocean.
At the end of the first month, I was left with only twenty-one siblings.
The sea didn’t kill the others. They took their own lives.
At the time, I thought the extinction of the Blood Fear clan was inevitable. But the situation quickly changed. When we were captured, enslaved, and sold to the Kalem Ancient Country, fate allowed me to meet the love of my life—the one who would become the savior of the Blood Fear clan!"
She dropped her pipe and strode over to stand behind the Pirate Captain, who was lounging sideways in his chair, biting the cork off a bottle of rum. Before Murphy and Andre could react, she grabbed her captain and planted a firm kiss right on his face.
Even though this captain was her progeny, at this moment, the usual hierarchy of master and servant seemed completely reversed.
In the woman’s eyes, Murphy saw the same glimmer he had seen earlier in Adel’s. He understood then—this noble, pureblooded member of the Blood Fear clan had wholly and sincerely accepted the Pirate Captain as her lifelong partner and the master of her soul.
"Back then, the young Babro Juan Garcia led his little merchant ship to bravely board the pirate vessel. With his own hands, he freed me and my siblings and taught us how to survive on the open sea.
He led us as we ravaged the oceans!
He turned us into the fiercest, bloodthirsty wolves of the Misty Sea.
We survived.
After enduring the horror of disaster, the Blood Fear clan was reborn amidst the malice of the sea!
We took root and scattered seeds, reorganizing our clan.
In the tenth year after we ventured into the ocean, the last twenty-one pureblood children of the Blood Fear clan elected our new clan leader."
The woman leaned forward over the Pirate Captain’s shoulder.
She lifted her head and fixed Murphy and Andre with a frosty gaze. It wasn’t until that moment that Murphy sensed the woman’s aura rising.
This was a Gold Stage pirate First Mate!
But her energy felt peculiar. Murphy had encountered Gold Stage individuals more than once, and the power emanating from the woman didn’t belong to a true Gold Stage. It felt more like a "strange disguise."
"We chose Babro Juan Garcia to be our captain. We bestowed upon him the ancient surname of ’Giovanni’ and the blood of plunder. It is not the surname that makes him noble; it is how he saved and honored it!
Without question, we chose my beloved to become the second Duke of the Blood Fear clan!
We offered all our loyalty to him!
The one and only Duke of Blood Fear sits before you, and yet you dare to insult him.
You two...
You two young vampires, you two young brethren!
Who do you think you’re speaking to?"
Her tone was sarcastic as she asked the question, while the well-liquored Pirate Captain whistled casually. He reached out and gave his First Mate an affectionate pat on her rounded hips—hips that he loved enough to die for—and then turned back, speaking in a strange, teasing manner to soothe her:
"Ah, my dear Claire, my love, don’t waste your temper on a bunch of immature landlubbers. It’s not worth it. Making a fuss will only add a few wrinkles to your perfect face, and you know—I’ve never cared about this Duke of Blood Fear title or the leadership of the clan.
I agreed to join this war, which has nothing to do with us, only because my little darling wanted to return home briefly and see the old country. Lord Pa Ying promised our fleet would profit greatly from participating in this conflict.
I came prepared for plundering, only to be met with a damned ambush.
That’s right.
I am the Duke of Blood Fear!
But it’s the least important title I hold, because it was bestowed upon me rather than earned through my own efforts. I’ve always scoffed at such gifts, though it seems to matter greatly to you."
The middle-aged man raised his head, his undeniably masculine face warped into an odd smirk as he stared at Murphy and Andre. He casually lifted his hand, revealing the dirty, hidden Duke’s seal to the two of them.
But this irreverent fellow deliberately wore the seal on his middle finger, making the gesture of revealing it a blatant act of mockery.
Andre immediately lowered himself in respect.
Murphy, too, bowed his head. Using formal etiquette, he expressed restrained reverence toward this "unconventional" Duke of the Blood Fear clan, though not as exaggeratedly as Andre. As the first heir of the Blood Vulture clan and its true core, Murphy had every reason to maintain his air of superiority.
