Chapter 1519: 511. The mysterious gift players want to give to Sir Morphy..._2
Major Ron burst into laughter and said:
"Due to our great victory in Plague Town, my father, for the first time ever, praised my bravery in his letter. It seems our success in the marsh has indeed earned the old folks some bragging rights. Anyway, enough talking, I’m going to try my luck.
Don’t look for me these few days. I’ll be back at the barracks after my leave ends. Consider it a vacation for me."
After saying this, the Major patted Fraser on the shoulder, then turned and ran towards the registration point for the Gambling King contest, with several junior officers following him to join the excitement.
Fraser shook his head, not blaming his subordinates for seeking fun.
Now was a period of rest and reorganization. After the conclusion of the marsh battles, the officers who participated in the combat were granted a half-month’s leave. Some returned to their homes in the Kato area, while the remaining officers took turns in charge of the construction of the advanced camp.
The experience in the marsh was already a terrible ordeal for these young people. A bit of fun now was just to relieve some of their fatigue and gloom, especially since they would soon have to confront the Black Disaster.
And besides, hadn’t he given himself a few days off as well?
With this mindset, Colonel Fraser spent a lot of time documenting the details of the Holy Blood Festival.
He intended to include the day’s experiences in his travelogue of the war years, to allow the people of Goldenrod Kingdom to better understand what sort of people their neighbors, the Transia People, really were.
Fraser felt this was absolutely necessary. He couldn’t allow his country to be blindfolded in confronting Transylvania, which was rising in a special way.
Moreover, the unique Holy Blood Festival was indeed very interesting. Being surrounded by people with smiles made the Colonel enjoy a rare feeling of complete relaxation.
He spent some time squeezed among the crowd, listening to Ring Attack narrate the story of the "White Knight" which was quite satisfying, even tipping a few silver coins, even though the tales told by Ring Attack from the perspective of an Avalon faithful subtly mocked the Goldenrod Kingdom’s behavior during the Ten-Year War.
He then went over to the student party’s booth to listen to young people dressed in bizarre costumes screaming weird songs from Exotic Lands.
Although most of these songs the Colonel couldn’t appreciate, he had to admit that a few of the sentimental ballads perfectly hit a tender spot in his heart.
After all, when you’re heartbroken, that’s precisely when you need to listen to love songs.
When noon arrived, the Colonel, with his protesting stomach, followed the crowd to the famous restaurant "East Mountain Residence" in the commercial district.
But today, there was a big promotion going on, attracting a huge crowd.
Fraser originally wanted to try out the famous Transia cuisine that had been the talk of the town lately, but the sight of the long queue made him lose interest at once.
He settled for a random street stall, ordered what was said to be a superb beef noodle soup, plus a few side dishes, and sat there watching the bustling crowd until the steaming bowl of noodles arrived. Only then did the Colonel pick up a fork and get ready to enjoy his meal.
Then...
"I think I should report to the peace officer that we have a ’foreign spy’ among us, who is sneakily observing some details of Crimson Castle, planning to take them back for rewards from his Dwarf Marshal."
A familiar voice sounded in front of Fraser, causing the Colonel, who was about to eat his noodles, to look up in surprise. There was Milian, dressed in ordinary clothes and smiling, taking a seat opposite him, also having ordered a bowl of noodles.
Just by looking at the candied haw on a stick in her hand, one could guess that Governor Milian had probably taken the morning off for herself as well.
"Don’t you feel awkward sitting back down so suddenly?"
The Colonel maintained his fork-wielding noodle-eating posture and replied with a straight face.
Even though he tried to uphold his demeanor, the awkward feeling in his heart was difficult to shake off. Compared to him, Governor Milian appeared much more at ease.
She ate a candied haw, glanced at Fraser, and said:
"My dear senior, don’t act like a child.
You and I both studied in Charldo Harbor, where the environment is open. I was too rustic to experience it back then, but I know that many guys who failed in courtship didn’t lose their composure like you, treating me as an enemy."
"I’m not, I didn’t."
The Colonel took a bite of spicy hot noodles, and the fiery flavor caught him off guard, causing him to cough, and he almost teared up from the spicy aroma irritating his delicate nose.
"Really not! Don’t overthink it, these noodles are just too spicy, what’s with you Transia People’s heavy taste?!"
Fraser made a bit of a fool of himself. While wiping his messy face with a handkerchief, he explained:
"My composure wouldn’t allow me...oww ha... too spicy, I need some water."
"Hahaha, you really are in a pickle."
Milian, laughing, passed her personal water bottle to him, unaware that the Governor had her little quirks. He unscrewed the cap and took a sip, only to be further troubled by the hot water from the thermos bottle.
Drinking hot water when your mouth is already burning is indescribably unpleasant, making Fraser even stick out his tongue.
"Try this, it will help you."
Milian took out a small tin box from her pocket, picked up a mint candy from inside, and handed it to the Colonel.
It was also a "local specialty" presented by the young players, fruit candy made with local mint.
