Chapter 1469: 495. Torn Space Seat! The decision is yours! Go!

For a professional lawyer, drafting a contract that meets requirements is a basic skill.

Of course, this task does not need a lawyer to sit in front of a computer and type it out character by character. What era are we in now? It would be too exhausting to make contracts in the traditional way. Contract templates exist for a reason, and seasoned lawyers should learn to draw on the wisdom of their predecessors and then make precise modifications according to the specific circumstances.

In the Continent where Transylvania is located, the summoning contracts of the Star Realm also have a standard template.

As Triss said, any summoner in their right mind would choose those peaceful and friendly demigods for their summoning. Although summoners are divided into various factions, Stellar Summoners and Alien Summoners are notoriously dangerous. Hence, the contract templates used by these two professions naturally need to be thicker.

But that’s just to a slight extent; at most, summoners would add a few dozen clauses to the contract based on their understanding to ensure their rights.

After all, the other party in the contract is also intelligent, especially those cunning Star World Creatures who excel at exploiting loopholes.

Triss has told Murphy many similar stories: summoners who tried to completely control their summoned beings with a contract only to be backfired on, summoners who died because the summoned beings deliberately exploited bugs.

Such incidents are not uncommon in a world filled with Spiritual Energy. Perhaps it is precisely because of such risks that the ancient profession of the Stellar Summoner, steeped in mystery, adventure, and the risk of death, has been waning in popularity in modern times, while the simpler and safer professions of wilderness summoners or Elemental Summoners have flourished.

After all, compared to the cunning Star World Creatures that are almost ghost-like, the minds of beasts and elemental creatures are quite dull. All that’s needed is a bit of meat prepared in advance or some things that make the elements happy... which isn’t much harder than snatching candy from a little girl.

Triss could guess Murphy would prepare extensively for the summoning contract with the Endless Manis. However, when Murphy actually walked into last night’s chamber with the contract, the Crimson Witch was still taken aback.

"What... what on earth is that in your hand?"

She exclaimed:

"This scroll is so huge! If you didn’t tell me, I would have thought you were carrying a rock!"

"Ah? This is big?"

Murphy looked at the rolled-up scroll in his arms, which was a bit heavy even when lifted with both hands, and said:

"I think it’s fine. It’s just one thousand two hundred and twenty-six contractual clauses and seventy thousand words. It’s just the length of a novella, and if you read quickly, it’d only take about an hour or two to finish.

And I still feel that’s not secure enough.

If I had more than a day to prepare, my personal legal advisor Crow Brother could have drafted an even more specific contract for me.

Alas, what a principled man he is. He even refused my request to decorate the scroll with ornamental Latin calligraphy that contained loopholes I could exploit."

"You..."

Triss was speechless as she watched Murphy thump the actual contract scroll onto the ground.

The thing even kicked up dust when it landed, indicating its exaggerated weight.

She had never seen such a spectacle and stepped forward to unroll the scroll, pulling it out to read a section:

"This contract applies to the party A (Reveno·Murphy·Lersenbra) and party B (Endless Manis) to conduct a power exchange and mutual existential binding based on the concept of ’equality’, therefore all items in the terms shall serve this purpose.

Both parties shall regulate their actions according to the clauses specified in this contract to bind both parties and reach mutual beneficial cooperation.

The effective range of this contract includes the Material Realm and the Star Realm. Outside of these regions, this contract does not possess mandatory effect. To prevent the ambiguity from causing both parties to question the binding force of this contract, it is hereby clarified that ’Material Realm’ shall include the planet itself and areas within its gravitational influence, all regions that can support physical life existence and livelihood.

And ’Star Realm’ shall include all areas covered by Star Realm Spiritual Energy and its spreading energy.

As party B belongs to the descendants of Time, it is hereby stipulated that during the effective time of this contract, party B shall not evade the contract terms by manipulating time forces to generate time paradoxes, engage in time traveling, or disturb the flow of time.

The definition of ’equality’ in this contract is as follows: (next two thousand words omitted)."

Just the very first section was enough to make Triss dizzy and overwhelmed.

The convoluted sentences and numerous qualifying phrases, along with nearly every contentious word being defined within the contract, made it virtually unreadable by ordinary people. Even a Spiritual Overlord would need to pause and think for a moment to escape the logical traps deliberately set by Crow.

She rubbed her head, looked at Murphy who seemed quite relaxed, and said:

"You already had this idea before deciding to sign a contract with Manis, didn’t you? You want to outmaneuver that serpent? I don’t think it’ll fall for it."

"It needs me, Triss."

Murphy did not reveal to Triss the "Alpha Project" and the Ascension to Godhood spoken by Manis, as the vague connection between Triss and the Matriarch "Mother of Midnight" gave Murphy a form of PTSD just hearing those four words now.
