Chapter 1440: 485. The undead never die, they just wither_2

However, the town currently can’t begin large-scale construction because that swamp giant snake is still lying there.

Priests from the Avalon Church haven’t finished their purification rituals, and the Gnolls are so afraid of the legendary creature’s aura that they won’t go anywhere near it, causing supervising foreman Nash quite the headache.

Despite wielding a whip, the foreman is also somewhat afraid...

Fortunately, Chief Hog hasn’t demanded a strict deadline, and the student faction isn’t in a rush either, so this can proceed slowly.

Although the cleanup of the Plague Warlock town’s ruins can’t be rapidly advanced, the removal of "hazardous items" within the town is in full swing.

The fallen Wizard Tower naturally isn’t a concern anymore, but the main issue is the vast number of evil relics left in the structures.

Especially as the Wolf People’s Undead Spellcasters have stockpiled a large number of corpses and remains as materials; these items may not pose a threat to personal safety, but they could certainly shock the players’ sensibilities.

Therefore, this task can’t be left to the players; it must be handled by the Avalon Church’s Witch Hunters.

Their method of handling it is simple and direct.

This group of Witch Hunters, with hearts as cold as iron from having survived a decade of war, collects the gathered corpse remains from the swamp, piles them into a hole, and then invokes the name of the gods of Avalon to summon the Purification Fire to burn them cleanly.

It’s very natural, very unpolluted, and quite effective.

After the Bloodclaw Clan Gnolls arrived, they were tasked with cleaning up various foul objects left within the structure.

Under the guidance of the Witch Hunters, they carried those objects out of the tower, and during the process, the Gnolls, adept at digging and mining, unexpectedly discovered a "secret chamber" inside the tower.

It was a chamber sealed off by Psychic Energy spells, and from the outside construction alone, it was clear that the items inside were far from ordinary.

The Gnolls reported this news to the Witch Hunters, who sent people to inspect but found the sealing spell was too advanced for them to handle.

So, the matter was forwarded to Miss Phemys, who is currently overseeing Wolf Castle.

Upon hearing the news, Phemys quickly arrived at the structure and spent some time deactivating the sealing spell, before opening the door leading underground escorted by a few Witch Hunters.

Miss Phemys had thought this task might be dangerous, but as it turned out, other than the sealing spell, there were no additional dangers deeper within the underground chamber.

However, the objects stored there surprised everyone to such an extent that without a direct order from Miss Phemys, the Witch Hunters took the initiative to seal off the area, waiting for further disposal.

Thirty minutes later, with a teleportation spell cast by Triss herself, Murphy, who had just left the area, returned once again to the ruins of the Plague Warlock town.

He entered the secret chamber and saw Miss Phemys reciting something, collecting and taking out one strange object after another.

The reason these objects were described as strange is because they didn’t follow any uniform standard.

Among the items categorized by Phemys and piled outside were broken Knight swords, decayed helmets, ragged Grimoires, lusterless Magic Wands, and even a few weathered military shrouds and a broken lady’s hand mirror.

To the ordinary eye, these items were just a pile of worthless junk.

But seeing how cautiously Miss Phemys was handling them, sorting them coming from the secret chamber, it was clear these items were not as simple as they appeared on the surface.

"Boxes of high-level undead beings’ souls... there are so many!"

Triss bent down to pick up a broken elf-style hand mirror, examining it in her hands, she said:

"The craftsmanship is not of high quality, and by the Moon priest’s standards, every item here would be considered inferior. However, it cannot be denied that these shattered items do possess all the functions of soul boxes, yet without any further protective measures.

A standard, qualified soul box should at least be strong enough to not easily break under physical stress.

I guess these are the relics that Plague Warlocks selected when resurrecting Necromancers and Netherworld Knights from their bodily remains.

These Wolf People are quite sentimental and very pragmatic."

Blood Vulture Duke scoffed, placing the elf hand mirror and a charred elf magic wand in his hands next to Murphy, saying:

"These are Bernice’s and Bella’s soul boxes; give them to Adel, I can hear the agonized screams of a small fragment of their tortured souls within, cursing the world’s malice."

"Uh-huh."

Murphy took the two items, then glanced at the various soul boxes laid out on the ground, and asked Phemys, who was busy:

"How many soul boxes are actually hidden here?"

"So far, 75, but there is still an inner layer, so I don’t know the exact number, but it’s definitely more than a hundred."

Miss Phemys was dealing with soul boxes for the first time.

She was fascinated by these rare undead creations, excitedly noting in her Psychic Notepad while eagerly answering:

"This is more than the forty-plus Necromancers and Netherworld Knights that Mr. Bella described to us, it’s very clear that the Wolf People have resurrected a group of elite undead from the Polluted Swamp to counter the Swamp Giant Snake.

Those guys really are despicable!"
