Chapter 1353: 457. The feeling of getting infinitely close to the truth is really frustrating - Additional updates [24/25]

(This is an additional update for brother "Warm Wine Farewell" [4/5])

Bearing a shroud bag on its back, Tear Flesh staggered away from the "Land of Creation," while the Swamp Giant Snake, exiled to the Star Realm by adventurers, had already returned to the physical world.

Its return was in less time than the thirty minutes claimed by the adventurers, which fully proved that even within the group of great evildoers like the Twilight Servants who "specialized in ending worlds," there were those who were incredibly unreliable.

This "minor error" was sufficient to cause severe losses to the Jackalwolf Tribe and the Undead Army that Tear Flesh had left behind, as they promptly retreated beyond the forbidden zone. Fortunately, the authority of Tear Flesh was still respected, so these creatures did not simply run back to the town of Pestilence but instead left a contingent of the Undead Army to back Tear Flesh upon his return.

Although they all wished that Tear Flesh would just disappear into the depths of the marsh, wouldn’t that be wonderful?

With the silent assistance of the Netherworld Knights, Tear Flesh passed through the battlefield being ravaged by the enraged Swamp Giant Snake without incident. A third of the assaulting zombies that followed were scattered in order to lure the beast to vent its fury elsewhere.

The effectiveness of their strategy was proven.

The bellowing of the monstrous beast, echoing through the marsh mists, was laced with furious intent; it had been completely enraged, meaning it had lost its calm and wit.

"It’s wounded?"

On reaching safe ground, Tear Flesh looked back at the battlefield, feeling a sense of awe at the resilience of a legendary creature coupled with a strange eagerness to test his mettle.

He could hear the distress within the roar of the giant snake.

This meant that the recent "journey to the Star Realm" had brought trouble upon the formidable creature; it had begun to bleed, which was an unexpected windfall. For the Plague Warlocks, once they had the fresh blood of a creature, even one as powerful as this had a vulnerability that could be exploited.

Whether it was for crafting vicious curses or concocting dissolutive poisons, it was an effective method of weakening.

"Stay here! Collect the fresh blood of Ningkinanka."

Tear Flesh made a swift decision and rebuked his disciples:

"I must return to Pestilence Town first to deal with the remains of my king. I will be back here with the necessary items by tomorrow morning. This wandering Swamp Giant Snake must be eliminated for us to continue searching in this region for other secrets left by my king.

We have already accomplished the first step of our goal, but we cannot return with just the remains of the king."

"You found it?"

The words of Tear Flesh shocked the Jackal Warlocks.

They all turned their gaze to the black shroud bag clutched tightly in Tear Flesh’s arms, realizing it contained the remains of the sole leader of the Jackalwolf Tribe. This was shocking enough to leave even these defiant creatures awestruck.

The lifespans of the Jackal People were short. Compared to humans on this world, who could easily live to be 140 years old, Jackal People could only live up to 60 years at most, and those scraping by in the cursed place of the Dark Mountain Range would have even shorter lives.

This meant that, like humans, these young Jackal People grew up listening to the legends of the King of Bone Biting.

They had come to regard the King of Bone Biting as a character of legend, and now the remains of this legendary figure lay before their eyes, suffusing these savage and dangerous beings with the heavy, shocking sensation of history washing over them.

"Can... can we see it?"

A bold disciple made the request, with the others nodding in agreement.

Tear Flesh considered refusing this impertinent request but then thought that he still needed these creatures to search for personal belongings hidden by the King of Bone Biting. Not wanting to dampen their enthusiasm and realizing that announcing the return of the king’s remains could also boost morale, he nodded.

Next to his Bipedal Dragon, Tear Flesh opened the shroud bag with a respectful gesture, revealing once again the majesty of the King of Bone Biting.

By Jackal standards, the King of Bone Biting was still awe-inspiring in death, and his skeletal remains were even larger in size than a pureblood Jackal Person like Kenbort.

Moreover, he had viciously powerful claws and a long, strong tail. The regular pattern of spots on his shriveled body, even after a hundred years, conveyed an unrivaled "nobility" to the surrounding Jackal People, and his fierce jaw and bared canines signified his formidable combat strength.

The king’s remains lay with closed eyes, skin and bones now, yet still like a raging lion about to awaken and wreak havoc at any moment.

This imposing pose perfectly matched the young Jackal People’s preconceived image of the King of Bone Biting, inspiring them to imagine the majestic and awe-inspiring presence of their powerful king leading armies in his living days.

However, someone soon raised a doubt:

"Tear Flesh Teacher, why is our king only dressed in a simple cloth? What about the ’Hunting’ Crown, ’Trampling’ Bone Shield, ’Skull Crusher’ Scepter, and ’Soul Ripper’ Flail bestowed by the Hunting God upon our king according to legend?"

A one-eyed disciple questioned:

"These are indispensable legendary objects in every story about our king! They are the symbols of power for our Jackal People; we must return with those items to earn respect for our Clan.

Even more importantly, if we find the secret of his strength among our king’s gifts, does that mean we could also cultivate war samurai for the Pestilence Clan? The legendary Hunting Forbidden Guards who roamed the Continent!"
