Chapter 1332: 450. We must learn to draw lessons from history, both good and bad - [17/25]
(For "Who else is competing with me" Brother, here’s an additional Chapter [2/5])
Loyal Brother, following Little Sheron, quickly completed the preliminary design of Mechanical Prosthesis for Lieutenant Robinson, "Disabled Insurance Victim Number One". The mechanism behind its functioning in the fantasy world is not reliant on precise nerve connections or chip manipulation; rather, it is activated based on the Calculating Pearl and the commands of the user.
Therefore, there’s no need to consider compatibility issues; it’s sufficient to create a mechanical arm that matches the user’s body size and traits and complete the installation.
But the process isn’t entirely without concerns.
Due to the limitations of Little Count Shuren’s craftsmanship, for the moment she’s not capable of producing high-precision mechanical prostheses. Making a mechanical arm like Loyal Brother’s was already her limit.
The capabilities of such a mechanical prosthesis, to be honest, are not that many, and they are all quite basic functions.
If one wishes to go further down this path, it’s not just inspiration and talent that are required. According to Little Sheron, she plans to attend Shaldo University of Craftsman’s Mechanical Engineering department after the Black Disaster settles down, where she might be able to learn the methods of creating more advanced prostheses from the Demi-Human Engineers.
In short, fantasy engineering and modern engineering are similar only in the term "engineering".
At least to Loyal Brother, the core of this "fantasy punk" lies not in the beauty of the machinery, but in the unique technological tree that Demi-Humans have developed in this special fantasy world that does not adhere to industrial advancement principles.
For example, they’ve managed to create steam trains that run on tracks, but not a single Demi-Human engineer has attempted to make something apparently simpler like cars. Instead, you can see "steam walkers" trodding along the streets of Charldo Harbor, which are actually "Mechanical Spiders" made following principles of bionics.
You’d say they are behind the times with their walkers that can engage in all-weather, all-terrain stable running charges.
But if you suggest they are advanced, remember that those walkers still run on coal and steam boilers.
In any case, it’s a mix of inconsistencies and awkwardness, yet it’s this very uniqueness that makes the system all the more appealing to Loyal Brother.
Loyal Brother and Little Sheron finalized their respective responsibilities regarding this matter, and then parted ways.
He is now the director of Transia First National Armory. There’s a lot he has to deal with daily, especially since the production line that was recently set up and began manufacturing has been having constant issues these past few days, leading to a consistently low output.
Loyal Brother feels this might be due to his and Little Sheron’s still-imperfect modifications of the production line.
However, the good news is that a batch of Mosin-Nagant Rifle barrels for mass production has just been completed; they are now just waiting for hardwood delivery from Torrent Castle to begin assembly.
Improvements to the production line by Little Count Shuren allow them to create rifle barrels with less standard rifling, and the semi-manual production of bullets is also becoming smoother. They have now entered the phase of building up inventory.
Broadly speaking, Loyal Brother’s armory is a classic case of minor glitches but hasn’t stopped moving forward.
This puts Loyal Brother in a good mood.
Humming a tune, he rides back to his factory on a Demon Hunter Warhorse, but en route, he encounters an "uninvited guest".
Amid the deep neighing of the war horse, a heavily armored Shadow Mane War Horse rushed over from a side road with an overwhelming presence. Loyal Brother turned around and saw a member of Tiger Leopard Cavalry Brothers, waving at him from the saddle.
"Loyal Brother, wait up, I’ve brought a letter from Stick Brother. We have something to discuss with you about the Swamp frontline’s advancement!"
"Oh, the swamp matter."
Loyal Brother reined in his horse, waiting in place for the Winged Cavalry Knight to join him.
The approaching Shadow Mane War Horse, both in stature and in presence, seemed to dwarf his mount, the Demon Hunter Warhorse. His steed, though also a standard large horse, appeared as pathetic as a donkey next to the Shadow Mane Warhorse.
"Here, a letter from Stick Brother, take a look yourself."
The Tiger Leopard Cavalry’s member, skillfully halting his horse, fed his beloved warhorse a carrot while passing a handwritten letter to Loyal Brother.
The latter, with his cool mechanical hand, took and scanned the letter, then exclaimed,
"You guys must be crazy! Burn the swamp down? I can’t believe you came up with that!"
"Ah, it’s not about burning the whole swamp down. The Polluted Swamp is so vast, where would we find that many people to burn it? Besides, even if we dared to do that, I bet Avalon’s Boss would be the first to be displeased and send down divine punishment.
We’re like ’Extraworld Small Animal Protection’ now; we have to be extra careful even when stepping on flowers and grass."
Dou complained quite discontentedly.
Their Winged Cavalry system falls under the special order of the Spirit of the Mountain Woods, who is an extension of Avalon’s power under the Mother of Forest. So, the Winged Cavalry is also a part of the nature faction.
This accidental convergence under the same belief system as Brother Meow’s group is both amusing and exasperating. However, since they’ve taken to worshipping the God of Nature, protecting the environment becomes a fundamental principle.
That’s not the main point; the main point is that Stick Brother has finally come up with his military campaign plan for the northern front.
Dou took out a map of the Polluted Swamp, spread it out in front of Loyal Brother, and explained to him the invasion route drawn on the map, from the Maginot Line directly into Plague Town:
