Chapter 1151: 389. Adel’s Family Reunion Time_3
When one mentions the command amulet, this tiny trinket made of bones belongs to the same system as the "Festival wand" of Spiritual Energy, allowing its holder to issue commands to the silent and cold "Underworld Knights".
However, this trinket isn’t the "Life Box" of the undead knights; the commands it grants aren’t compulsory. The "Underworld Knights" do have the authority to refuse those commands, but given their indifferent posture as the deceased, the refusal to execute commands is unlikely.
In this case, Lame Claw is quite cunning, not giving Hog the knights’ "Life Box" implies that Hog could only "rent" them.
Should their collaboration break down, Lame Claw holding the "Life Box" would need just one command, and the seven "Underworld Knights" could turn traitor and behead Hog right there.
This was somewhat of a "get something for nothing" stunt executed by that maniacal member of the Wolf People.
Following Hog, the seven "Underworld Knights" who returned to the Smugglers’ Forest maintained a cold demeanor like pieces of wood when they hadn’t received any commands, but they certainly had an impressive presence.
Dressed in black armor that enshrouded their entire bodies, they carried heavy weapons like the cold, greatswords of necromancy, war axes, and war hammers. Judging by their posture, they seemed all to be human, and none of Wolf People had been made into "Underworld Knights."
Perhaps this advanced necromancy didn’t work on the Wolf People due to racial differences?
According to what the Grand Duke of Cui Si said, the necromancy skills used by magicians of the Pestilence Clan all originated from the distant moon priests of the Sanghai People in the Sand Empire.
Though the Sanghai People differ greatly from humans in many aspects, the academic community generally believes that the Sanghai People are a subspecies of humans. The connection between these two races is definitely much closer than that between humans and the Wolf People.
"Number Seven, come with me."
Hog ordered the other five "Underworld Knights" to patrol near the beast lair with 30 skeleton cavalrymen each and gave a special command to the particularly tall Knight number seven.
That silent female "Underworld Knight" gave no response, just mounted her armored Skeleton War Horse and followed Hog out of the den.
They advanced swiftly under the cover of night and reached a hidden spot on the border of the Smugglers’ Forest half an hour later.
By the time they arrived, two figures were already waiting for them there.
"Lady Adel! The mission was successful!"
Hog shouted from a distance,
"I have brought back your kin!"
"Keep your voice down..."
Adel chastised softly and handed Hog a bag containing Kenbort’s mummified head, which was the agreed "fair trade."
However, by this point, Corpse Sorcerer Bella, unable to restrain the emotions uncharacteristic of the deceased, staggered forward a few steps. The always emotionless "Underworld Knight" also, for the first time, displayed a movement inconsistent with the state of the dead.
She dismounted from her Skeleton War Horse, quickly approached, and embraced the Corpse Sorcerer.
The two dead beings just quietly stayed embraced under the night sky, performing no other actions. Yet, this form of cursed love that even death could not sever created an atmosphere so unique that even Hog, a naturally cold member of the Wolf People, felt its distinctiveness.
Holding Kenbort’s head in his hand, he cocked his head, observing the two "showing affection" among the undead, hmm, was this what humans frequently referred to as "love"?
He and Adel did not interfere with the sorrowful reunion before them.
Minutes later, Corpse Sorcerer Bella and the "Underworld Knight" Bernice approached Adel. Bernice removed her heavy helmet, revealing a face as dessicated and frightful as Bella’s.
Yet the faint expressions on her scarred face intensified the spiritual fire in her eyes as she looked at Adel:
"Oh, Avalon above, Little Adel, why have you become one cursed by midnight?"
Bernice spoke in a thin voice,
"Your mother must be devastated by this."
"I would call it the blessing of midnight, Aunt Bernice, and now is not the time to discuss my mother."
Lady Adel responded coldly,
"I must take you back to Crimson Castle for the Grand Duke of Cui Si to assess your condition. Uncle Bella, can you confirm there is no spy spell residue on Aunt Bernice?"
"No, I just confirmed it,"
Corpse Sorcerer Bella confirmed,
"Bernice and I, even in the town of Pestilence, counted among the higher echelons. Any application of spiritual energy on us had to be through Tear Flesh’s permission.
Mad Lame Claw, although valued, did not have that authority, and moreover, Lame Claw, being primarily a corpse constructor, was not adept at surveillance spells.
But to be safe, we must still have the Grand Duke of Cui Si examine Bernice once."
"Uh-huh."
Adel nodded, then turning to Hog, she said,
"You’ve done well, Pangolin, not just because you fulfilled the task Master Morphy assigned you but also because you’ve earned my personal thanks.
Speak your mind, whatever you desire, I’ll do my utmost to fulfill it."
"I..."
Hog hesitated for a moment, but knowing this chance was rare, he gritted his teeth and said,
"I want governing rights over Smugglers’ Forest!
Not just under this current granted model, I hope that the Smugglers’ Forest, ruled by the Bloodclaw Clan, could truly enter the maps of Transylvania, and not remain hidden under cooperation as it is now.
I know this is asking for a lot, but Lady Adel, please understand...
The Black Disaster is coming!
Not only will the armies of Transylvania be here, but those from other places as well, and I believe Master Morphy and his warriors will not harm me and my clan, but I hold no hope for the character of others.
I have seen how they kill their own kind, we desire real protection!"
"I can’t promise that, Hog."
Adel shook her head,
"I can only guarantee that I will convey your thoughts to Master Morphy and do my utmost to persuade him; you have to understand, the main body of Transylvania is human, and we must consider their feelings.
But I can assure you!
As long as I remain the ’Dark Female Baron,’ your territory will not be disturbed."
