Chapter 1060: 359. Turner and victim Mr. X_3
Turner described in a low voice:
"But I was lucky, the place where we were attacked was close to the Eye of Wolf God Monastery, and before I took my last breath, Master Yuri, who had gone out to buy food, found and saved me.
Unfortunately, after I spent eight months crawling back from Hell to the human world, I discovered that I had been declared dead in that war.
That didn’t matter to me.
I was, after all, a war orphan adopted by the Winter Wolf Army, but I bore responsibility for the death of my brothers, and what’s most important, I had failed to complete that escort mission.
My mistake had caused quite a terrible outcome for my country, even forcing Wolf Queen Majesty to temporarily suspend the construction of the Great Wilderness.
The Nordtoff Kingdom and the Frost dwarfs of the Great Wilderness almost went to war over my error, a sin I could never repay in this lifetime, however under the guidance of my god, I discovered, after I first crossed the savage lands and stepped onto the West Sacha Barbarian territory a year later, that it was not an accidental attack.
It was Twilight who orchestrated everything from behind!
My brothers and I, including the dignitary who died because of my mistake, as well as the conflict between the two tribes that almost led to a Nordtoff civil war, it was all instigated by Twilight.
If it weren’t for Wolf Queen Majesty’s sufficient wisdom, trading political compromises for the Frost dwarfs’ concessions, the chaos once seen in Transylvania might have been repeated in Nordtoff.
After I knew all this, I realized the rest of my life had to be devoted to the mission of fighting Twilight to the death.
Perhaps it was the God of the North Wind’s reason for allowing me to survive failure, or perhaps I was already dead, and what appears before you is only a stubborn ghost who refuses to rest in peace.
Until all the Twilight followers are sent to Hell, neither I nor my brothers can rest!
This is the vow of a Nord.
This is the vow I made at the gates of Hell!
Is this reason sufficient?"
"Sounds substantial, but before that, I must ask you a question."
Murphy asked in an odd tone:
"The dignitary you were escorting... was it a Frost dwarf? A Gold Stage Frost dwarf?"
"Huh?"
Turner’s eyes went wide.
He said:
"How do you know?
Did you hear the answer in my heart?
No!
That’s impossible, that’s a secret that I prayed for my god to seal at the Shrine of the God of the North Wind, a secret that was not to be revealed to the public."
"So, I’m correct, the true identity of the dwarf victim Mr. X has been laid bare."
Murphy smiled.
Then he told Turner all that had happened in the third level of the sewers under Crimson Castle, including the story of the Plague Rat King Zivig and the unformed plague Ghoul overlord.
When Turner learned that the "raw material" for the Ghoul overlord was a Gold Stage Frost dwarf, he completely snapped.
The Winter Wolf Monk’s whole body burst out with bitter cold intent to kill as he squeezed out through clenched teeth:
"Such beasts! Even in death, Lord Ratir must endure such humiliation, I swear, I will surely avenge that noble ruler."
"Lord Ratir?"
Murphy queried:
"So, he was the Supreme Lord of the Frost dwarfs?"
"The previous Supreme Lord. Lord Baldur Frostwind has taken over after his father’s ordeal, and since it’s a terrible curse for dwarfs to have missing bodies, to stabilize the hearts of the Frost Fort, Lord Baldur announced that his father was just missing and not yet dead."
Turner explained:
"That old Frost dwarf Supreme Lord was one of Wolf Queen’s most respected elders, a major political force within the Nordtoff Kingdom even during the reign of the Wolf Queen’s father.
Twilight obviously wanted to shake Wolf Queen’s rule by killing Lord Ratir, but like others, they underestimated the Wolf Queen.
Though the bloodline of the Hero King is young, her decisiveness is unlike that of a woman, thankfully with her in power, the incident did not ferment into a worse outcome.
But who could have imagined that after Lord Ratir’s death, he would have nearly destroyed Transylvania... Governor Murphy, do you say that Lord Ratir’s urn is in your hands?
Please understand, but I must return it to Frost Fort."
"I understand, and I am willing to help a pitiful dwarf return to his homeland."
Murphy said with feigned sincerity:
"Of course, if those Frost dwarfs are sensible enough, they should show appreciation to my Transylvania for a kindly Vampire bringing their old monarch rest."
"Lord Baldur will surely thank you for your kindness, however, it won’t end so simply."
Monk Turner sighed and said:
"Because at the time of Lord Ratir’s attack, his death was not the only tragedy, the Frost dwarfs’ sacred weapon, ’Strike of Cold Winter,’ disappeared with the old Lord in the Barbarians’ land.
Because that god-given hunting spear is missing, Lord Baldur’s position is also not very secure.
If we want to help Frost Fort settle down, we must find that hunting spear of Gaia, which is much more difficult than finding the old Lord’s urn."
"So it’s ’we’ now?"
Murphy huffed and said:
"Your Excellency, I haven’t agreed to include you in our cause yet."
"Would you refuse the service of a Godchosen Monk?"
Turner, resigned to his fate, spread his hands and said:
"If you’re unwilling, I’ll turn around and leave with the old dwarf’s ashes right away."
"Tch, Nord’s foul temper."
The Vampire Lord shook his head and pointed above, saying:
"Go report to the Adventurer Guild and the Shadow Intelligence Bureau, Lord Turner, Lady Natalie and my servant Adel have both sworn to hunt down Twilight, to avenge their father and elder. I think you’ll make very good partners with them.
Of course, as a return for accepting you, I expect you to become Transylvania’s Martial Monk instructor.
Be advised, this is not a request."
