Chapter 1028: 349. What? Gone crazy? Take my Personality Correction Fist!

These recent days at Crimson Castle have been bustling with excitement. As reported by the clerks from the administrative office, the locals, having missed several traditional festivals in a row, were very enthusiastic about the sudden boxing competition. It wasn’t just the soldiers from the People’s Army guarding Crimson Castle who selected their representatives to compete, but also individuals from the recently established five collective farms eagerly signed up, all reputed to be skilled fighters.

Murphy had been inspecting his territories in the past couple of days and saw scenes of peasants practicing their boxing moves anywhere they could after work.

Many women, even those holding their young children, watched the boxing matches and cheered on the fighters, giving Murphy a deeper understanding of the "national character" of the Transian people and confirming to him that the misconceptions held by others about Transia were not simply unfounded rumors.

Even Murphy, who was worldly and knowledgeable, couldn’t help but be convinced of the fierce local customs and the abundance of ill-tempered barbarians here, when he saw several old men who usually manned the doors at the administrative office throwing punches at each other at dusk.

The "national movement" that was intended to guide the young players to do something constructive and also help Dog Planner spot any gaps or issues had unwittingly ballooned in such a short time, which was beyond Murphy’s expectation.

It seemed that if they wanted to boost the happiness of the Transian people, there was no need to focus on highbrow pursuits like drama and poetry to cultivate one’s sentiments; rather, hosting more activities like the boxing competition that everyone enjoyed was the right approach.

This festive atmosphere continued until Count Shuren of the Highlanders arrived at Crimson Castle with a group of sturdy samurai, resembling small giants, and brought the excitement to a true climax.

Upon hearing that the Highlanders from the north were also entering the competition, the local young and old of Transia suddenly felt a subtle shift from their casual attitude to one of serious consideration.

The people forged in these harsh mountains valued their reputation above all; pride and face were the two things they cherished most.

Although Transia had been pitifully devastated by the war, the rebuilding of Crimson Castle and the restoration of order had gradually helped to lift the spirits of the locals.

Nobody wanted to see themselves outdone by those secluded and peculiar Highlanders, so the selected boxers from Transia each received an extra dose of "friendly encouragement" from their fellow villagers and relatives.

"If you don’t perform well, kid, you’d better be ready to take a beating/kneel and scrub the washing board/sleep outside the door when you get back home!"

Later that evening, when the "advance team" of the Northerners arrived at Crimson Castle, following Maxim and some captured Blood Servants, the competitive atmosphere gained a layer of national and familial rivalry, like pouring a hefty ladle of oil onto an already blazing fire.

The relations between Transia and their northern neighbors had always been strained, and their alliance with the Golden Flower Kingdom to dismember the Posya Confederation during the final phase of the decade-long war further worsened the locals’ perception of these Northerners.

Especially when it was heard that they were all soldiers and prisoners from various parts of the north, the seething anger became uncontrollable.

"Damn it, Transia has already suffered enough, and now these Northern thugs want to suck the blood of our pitiful people?"

"Who do they think they’re looking down upon?"

And so, the local boxers chosen to compete received yet another dose of "warm care" from their family members.

You can lose the boxing match, but the Northerners must die!

If you lose face by being defeated, get ready to kneel before your ancestors’ graves and beg for mercy when you get home.

This back and forth put considerable pressure on the local boxers.

Fortunately, they had a backup plan. Some of the most notoriously "battle-crazy" warriors under Sir Murphy’s command would also represent the locals in the competition. If their side happened to lose by accident, they could still count on these warriors, who were not even afraid of death, to restore some of their lost honor.

Thus, as the time for the boxing competition drew near at dusk, some of the players who had passed the preliminaries found themselves inexplicably supported by the locals.

For instance, Khaki Tontita and Ni Gei Lu Da You, who were representing the residents of Building No. 3 of Crimson Castle, were bewildered when they were adorned with flower garlands by several NPC aunties and paraded around the city, escorted by the NPCs from Building No. 3 as if they were heroes making their entrance.

Although they didn’t quite understand what was happening, Khaki and Old Oil were still delighted, as this clearly showed they had earned the respect and affection of the NPCs.

This was a great thing!

It must be because they had built up good reputation that they triggered this unique scenario.

The two of them waved to the crowd as they walked the streets, causing a commotion as the spectators shouted and cheered, turning the atmosphere even more heated. This sight filled Catch Shrimp, who had just joined the game and had yet to pass the Black Iron Trial, only serving as an assistant to these two dormitory sons, with envy and jealousy.

Meanwhile, Bull Bull, who was in snug-fitting armor and making his final preparations, also encountered Miss Anbo, who had come to cheer him on and boost his morale.

But Miss Anbo was always unconventional in her approach, and upon seeing Bull Bull throwing punches, she mockingly said,

"Both Old Eugene and Mother Mary Ann see this boxing match as an opportunity to promote Avalon’s strength. They have sent the Church’s strongest young Witch Hunters, Sanke and Karenge, to compete, along with those Avalon warriors from the Big Bird Team—Three Five Battles, Ring Attack, and Brother Black Silk.
