Chapter 551: Chapter 550: It Seems I Heard Something Incredible
The wisp of purple-black mist in the void twisted erratically.
Shao Zifeng felt a surge of longing well up in his heart, his right hand trembling uncontrollably as numerous lightning-like purple-red lines appeared on the back of his hand, outlining an abstract eye pattern.
The True Spirit keenly sensed his change and looked at his right hand with eyes like lightning, with its small face turning exceptionally grim in an instant.
Shao Zifeng knew something was amiss in his heart. Just as he was about to explain, the True Spirit’s small body erupted with a majestic aura, pressing down on him like a mountain.
Its long hair danced wildly behind it, and its serpentine body slowly lifted into the air, the lined eyes turning alien and unrecognizable.
"Speak, who art thou!"
Boom!
The grand and dignified voice rolled in like furious waves, and the twisted purple-black mist in the void instantly dissipated in the sound waves.
Shao Zifeng looked at the True Spirit in midair, who appeared like a deity, gritting his teeth and strenuously resisting the overwhelming force.
He did not know if it was because the True Spirit’s knock had stabilized his spiritual body or for some other reason.
Though he was struggling to resist, this time he did not experience that imminent danger of collapse as he did the first time.
"Beibei!"
Beibei struggled out of the True Spirit’s embrace, clumsily flew in front of Shao Zifeng, and stared fiercely at the True Spirit in the air, baring its teeth menacingly.
"You shall not bully him!"
The childish voice echoed in the void, and the True Spirit’s indifferent eyes rippled slightly.
It hesitated for a moment, then its flamboyant hair gradually settled down, and its massive and majestic aura slowly receded.
Feeling the immense pressure lessen, Shao Zifeng’s spirit wavered for a moment before he stood up straight and calmly met the True Spirit’s gaze, recalling the cause and effect of awakening the ability "Infection": "Can’t you just look at the memory extraction for yourself?"
The True Spirit hesitated for a moment, then extended a finger and curled it, pulling a cloudy sphere of light from Shao Zifeng’s forehead into its hand.
Pressing the sphere of light to its forehead, the True Spirit closed its eyes.
Shao Zifeng simply watched silently. This time, he was truly a little angry. For that dark substance...
No, that’s not right.
He had been running around for its matter for so long without any recognition or reward; yet this little old lady was ready to turn on him at the drop of a hat.
As the memories were being read, the chill on the True Spirit’s face gradually faded away.
It opened its eyes, looking at Shao Zifeng with a bit of guilt, but the pride of an ancestral spirit did not allow it to bow in acknowledgment of its mistake.
Shao Zifeng looked at it and asked indifferently, "Do you understand now?"
"Mm," the True Spirit replied in a barely audible voice, showing none of the previous domineering arrogance.
Shao Zifeng nodded, "In that case, I will take my leave now."
After speaking, his and Beibei’s spirits began to fade.
"Thou..."
The True Spirit opened its mouth, its small face showing a mix of urgency and grievance. Its physical body was slumbering, and even the True Spirit within had regressed to this state, making this the time when it was at its weakest. Therefore, it was inevitable that it would react excessively upon detecting the abnormality in Shao Zifeng’s body.
Unworthy descendant!
Miser!
The True Spirit, pouting, watched as Shao Zifeng’s spirit gradually disintegrated, petulantly shouting, "Go if thou wilt, but when thou art at death’s door, blame not me for not having warned thee."
Shao Zifeng’s figure paused, his spiritual body ceasing to dissipate.
"What do you mean?"
The True Spirit let out a sigh of relief but still maintained a stubborn expression, "Thou art oblivious to the impending disaster. Having stolen its power, its mark is within thy body; sooner or later thou shalt be hunted down by it."
"Mark?"
"Seize power?"
Shao Zifeng looked down at his right hand, pondering the information revealed in Wa Ling’s words.
He suddenly recalled the wisp of purple-black mist drawn out by Wa Ling. Logically, that virus should have been absorbed by now; it didn’t make sense that this kind of thing could still be extracted.
Concerned about his own safety, the irritation in Shao Zifeng’s heart instantly dissipated as he bravely asked, "Great Wa Emperor, what do you mean by stealing power?"
"Hmph!" Wa Ling folded her arms across her chest, lifted her chin arrogantly, and said, "Aren’t you leaving?"
"Oops." Shao Zifeng waved his hand dismissively, "I was just kidding with you."
Wa Ling rolled her eyes but didn’t stoop to his level.
She slowly landed beside Shao Zifeng, curling back into her serpentine form, and after finding a comfortable position to lie in, she beckoned Beibei over and held it in her embrace.
"You little ingrate, you even dared to be fierce with me just a moment ago."
Beibei neither fussed nor created a scene, his eyes gradually becoming vacant as he entered a state of complete tranquility.
Wa Ling pointed her finger annoyed at its little head and looked toward Shao Zifeng, asking, "How much do you understand about this power?"
Shao Zifeng shook his head; he only knew it was a highly contagious virus that seemed to be mutating constantly—beyond that, he knew nothing else.
Wa Ling sighed, "If I’m not mistaken, the master of this force should be Fei."
"Fei?"
Shao Zifeng sat cross-legged beside her, listening intently to her account.
Wa Ling nodded, her eyes gazing toward the endless void in the distance, "Fei, where it passes water ceases, where it passes grass dies, upon sighting it a plague will strike the whole world, a great disaster."
"The East Continent..." Wa Ling paused for a moment, "To you all, this must relate to ancient times. Back then, the East Continent’s tribes were as numerous as stars, constantly waging war with one another, the battles causing mountains to collapse and the earth to split, corpses strewn everywhere, people unable to live in peace."
Shao Zifeng really wanted to interject.
The conflicts between tribes surely weren’t that exaggerated.
But, fearing being hit, he dared not make a sound.
Wa Ling continued, "I could not bear it, so I chose the tribes of benevolent people to teach, later known as Donghuang. The major tribes of Donghuang followed my teachings, quickly conquering all the tribes of the East Continent, allowing people to live and work in peace and happiness, and providing time for the human race to recover and reproduce."
As she spoke of her achievements, Wa Ling’s face carried a bit of smugness; she frequently looked toward Shao Zifeng, wishing for some sweet words of praise.
But Shao Zifeng was clearly not an adept flatterer, much to Wa Ling’s gritting annoyance.
This unworthy descendant!
Shao Zifeng blinked, not understanding why she was angry again.
Wa Ling, suppressing the irritation in her heart, continued, "Just when we thought peace had been established, a few small tribes from the toxic and barbarous lands of the southwest began to quietly grow in strength. Originally thought to be but a minor disease, we let them be."
"Yet, unexpectedly, they stirred up trouble everywhere, sowing discord, forcing the East Continent to again fall into the throes of war. By the time we wanted to intervene, it was too late, and the East Continent was plunged into decades of warfare."
Looking at Shao Zifeng, she said, "One of the instigators of this protracted war was the ’Fei’ tribe."
"The ’Fei’ tribe?" Shao Zifeng asked curiously, "Isn’t Fei a True Spirit?"
"True Spirit? It does not deserve such a title." Wa Ling’s face showed disdain, "Fei, Huo Dou, and a few other culprits, although not weaker than us, were beheaded by the great leader of the Donghuang tribe atop Baiyue Mountain..."
"Wait!" Shao Zifeng felt something was off as he listened, "Is the leader of the Donghuang tribe also a True Spirit?"
"Why do you ask that?" Wa Ling looked at him strangely, "The great leader of the Donghuang tribe is, of course, of the human race."
Stammering, Shao Zifeng said, "But you mentioned he beheaded... beheaded ’Fei’ and ’Huo Dou.’ How could that be?"
"Isn’t that normal?" Wa Ling’s expression became even stranger, "The Donghuang tribe reveres the strong, and only exceptional powerhouses can become their great leader."
Normal?
Normal my ass!
Even now humans struggle to kill a first-order Mutant creature, alright?
