Chapter 546: Chapter 545 Tomb Guardian Beast

"Beep~"

"Temporary worker cardholder Shao Zifeng, remaining free access time in the underground facility: 58 days, 19 hours, 23 minutes, 1 second. Unlocked areas: ’Research Area,’ ’Park,’ ’Treasury.’ We wish you a pleasant work life."

"Official worker cardholder Nan Lixuan, remaining free access time in the underground facility: 187 days, 21 hours, 15 minutes, 36 seconds. Unlocked areas: ’Research Area,’ ’Park.’ We wish you a pleasant work life."

Listening to the electronic synthetic voice’s announcement, Shao Zifeng curiously looked at Nan Lixuan beside him, "You have a time limit here?"

"Of course, there is. Did you think you could just come and go as you pleased?" Nan Lixuan took back his work card and looked at the slowly opening metal door with emotion, "If it weren’t for the high secrecy of the teleportation formation project this time, I might not get to come here often in my lifetime."

"The door is open; now, I can’t accompany you inside. My authority only extends to opening this last door for you." Saying this, Nan Lixuan took out an ancient-looking bronze token and handed it to Shao Zifeng, "Take good care of this; you’ll need it inside."

Shao Zifeng took the bronze token, which felt heavy in his hand. It was engraved with ancient spiral patterns, with a raised old seal character in the middle that vaguely resembled the character for ’seal.’

He turned the bronze token over and over in his hands, puzzled, and asked, "What is this?"

"Kid, how would I know what it is if I’ve never been inside?" Nan Lixuan said irritably, smoothing his upright white hair. "The security for the Treasury is even higher. They only said that this is to be used after entering the Treasury."

Nan Lixuan’s tone was sour, "Move along now, the more I see you, the more irritated I get."

"Hey, then I’m off."

After bidding farewell to Nan Lixuan, Shao Zifeng walked alone in the quiet corridor.

He knew only that the Treasury was somewhere in the underground facility, but not where because he couldn’t see outside from the vehicle he was in. As soon as he got off, there was just a corridor.

Since he entered the corridor, he had passed through five security gates, and they had to swipe their cards together to open the doors.

Shao Zifeng had no idea how long he had walked, only feeling that the corridor seemed endless.

At one moment, it was as if he passed through an invisible barrier, and at the end of the corridor, a carved lattice wooden door appeared abruptly.

The exquisite door was painted a vibrant red, which clashed starkly with the metallic vibe of the underground facility.

Looking at the wooden door that still seemed to emit the smell of paint, Shao Zifeng hesitated for a moment before taking a deep breath and gently pushing it open.

Creak~

Darkness lay behind the wooden door, and the moment Shao Zifeng stepped in, he felt his feet sink slightly, as if stepping on soil.

Smelling the earthy scent at the tip of his nose, he quickly turned around but saw only darkness behind him.

Sssss—

At that moment, several ancient bronze lamps suddenly lit up.

Amid the flickering candlelight, the dim lamp light illuminated his surroundings, and Shao Zifeng squinted to see that he was still in a corridor, only now the walls on both sides were made of blue stone bricks.

After hesitating briefly, Shao Zifeng continued deeper into the corridor.

He did not know how far he had walked when a statue of a mythical beast appeared in the middle of the corridor.

The statue, reflecting a bronze luster under the flickering candlelight, resembled a stone lion with a spiraled horn on its head, large outward-stretched ears, eyes wide with fury, and a fanged mouth, under which hung a thick beard.

Most notably, a series of long spikes extended from behind its head, blocking the passage and leaving just enough room on either side for someone to squeeze by.

Carefully observing it, and seeing no reaction in the corner of his eye, Shao Zifeng cautiously tried to sidle past it.

Just as he was about to pass, a cold streak grazed his cheek and deeply embedded itself into the blue stone tile.

Shao Zifeng’s body instantly tensed; he looked up to see that what was stuck in front of him was indeed a bronze spike.

Creak!

A grating sound echoed through the silent space; Shao Zifeng stiffly turned his head only to see the bronze statue slowly turning its head, its previously dim eyes now flickering with a green flame, as if it had come to life.

As it looked his way, the bronze spikes behind its head glinted with a chilling light in the candlelight, thrusting towards Shao Zifeng’s forehead.

Shao Zifeng wanted to dodge, but his body felt as though it had been immobilized.

"Beibei!"

At the critical moment, a tender cry rang out at the bottom of his heart.

Shao Zifeng only felt as if the veil covering his mind had been lifted, and various memories surged to his heart instantly.

The bronze beast statue shuddered, and the luster sparkled in its dark green eyes as two purple runes slowly formed.

Shao Zifeng suddenly remembered something, hurriedly pulling out a bronze token from his pocket, "I have a token!"

Upon seeing the token, the bronze statue tilted its head, emitting a grating sound, and the flames in its eyes flickered slightly as the purple runes slowly dispersed.

"Subdue!"

With a dull roar, the ancient brick lamp instantly vanished, and the bright light came on again.

Shao Zifeng looked around bewilderedly, his attention drawn to a forty-centimeter-tall bronze statue on the high platform in front of him.

In his peripheral vision, blue dots rotated, and a pale blue light screen slowly unfolded.

[Description]: The Tomb Guardian Beast is a common funerary object in King Chu’s tombs and is one of the uniquely shaped artifacts in Chu lacquerware. This type of artifact has an abstract appearance, ingenious and bizarre design, terrifying and grotesque imagery, with a strong mystical feel and rich witchcraft mythos. This Tomb Guardian Beast unearthed after the ’Unknown Recovery Event’ had guarded a certain King Chu’s tomb for thousands of years. After excavation, it underwent individual mutations and was appointed by the Daxia authorities to guard the national treasury.

Shao Zifeng shivered at the talents of the Tomb Guardian Beast in front of him, and hurriedly started checking himself.

He had just forcibly broken out of the illusion with Beibei’s help, surely he hadn’t been inflicted with a Voodoo Curse Seal, had he?

Fortunately, after checking, he did not find the purple runes he had seen earlier.

He then breathed a sigh of relief.

Shao Zifeng marveled at the small Tomb Guardian Beast in front of him, surprised that this thing could also become a mutant creature.

Although the Tomb Guardian Beast, like Qiqi and Big Cat, were just mutant creatures with special abilities, they could still be considered a form of life, right?

Thinking this, he glanced at the Deceiver’s Ring on his hand.

Characters from stories could become mutant creatures, so it seemed not so strange that the Tomb Guardian Beast, as the guardian of the Emperor’s Ancient Tomb, became a mutant creature as well.

After a brief pause, Shao Zifeng raised his head, but today’s objective wasn’t the Tomb Guardian Beast; it was the various items collected by Daxia over the past twenty years.

With that in mind, Shao Zifeng briskly walked into the hall.
