Chapter 336 - Chapter 336 Chapter 335 Blood Eternal Forging My Countrys
Chapter 336: Chapter 335: Blood Eternal, Forging My Country’s Borders Chapter 336: Chapter 335: Blood Eternal, Forging My Country’s Borders “The meeting shall continue.”
In the meeting room of Tingming Pavilion, the annual summary meeting was being held.
The round conference room measured over 200 square meters, with walls of white marble that were clean and tidy, devoid of anything but the lightest patterns in decoration. Aside from that, twelve huge stone pillars that would take two people to encircle were spaced around the wall.
Looking up along the pillars, one could see that the conference room had no ceiling; the higher one looked, the darker it became, with the tops of the pillars disappearing into the darkness.
Within the spacious conference room lay two round tables, the outer one featuring twelve seats.
Each of these twelve seats faced one of the stone pillars and was occupied by a military officer sitting ramrod straight, their faces stern.
There were men and women among these officers, both old and young.
If there was something common about them, aside from their crisp uniforms, it was the deadly seriousness that they exuded.
In the central position, there was a smaller conference table, at which eight elders sat.
The leader among the elders had grizzled hair and wore a Sun Yat-sen suit. A hint of a smile touched his lips, conveying an indescribable sense of warmth.
Laid out neatly in front of him were a wooden gavel and a ceramic mug, his attention, like everyone else’s, was on the large screen floating in the middle of the room.
Of course, apart from these twenty, there was also a young man in formal attire.
He held a folder and was reporting to the present dignitaries.
“According to data from the National Ice and Snow Data Center, the surface area of the arctic sea ice plummeted dramatically in September of this year, recording the second lowest value since observations began. The phenomenon is attributed to the emergence of abnormally warm ‘black waters’ within the Ice Ocean that can rapidly melt sea ice…”
The young man’s clear voice echoed in the vacant conference room. As the ominous ‘black waters’ were displayed on the screen, the faces of those present varied in expression.
The leader of the elders cleared his throat, “Let’s all share our thoughts.”
At the central conference table, a slightly plump elder looked around and said with a chuckle, “Why is everyone so quiet?”
“If none of you have anything to say, let this old man speak. Xiao Sun, if I recall correctly, this is not the first report of its kind this year, right?”
The young man in formal attire hastily replied when addressed by the elder, “Yes, this is not the first such incident this year. Rash Country’s Siberia experiencing prolonged high temperatures for over a month and the appearance of pink snow in the Alps are all abnormal events that happened this year.”
“Hmm,” the portly elder rubbed his chin stubble, “I do not believe these global climate abnormalities, spanning many regions, are the work of mutant creatures. And if it is not the doing of mutant creatures, then human efforts are of no use in the face of such events.”
“I suggest we continue to monitor and research the situation but should not be overly concerned about it, I’ve said my piece.”
“Does anyone else have a differing opinion?” The leader in the Sun Yat-sen suit picked up the gavel, “If not, we’ll now proceed to the voting.”
“Agreed.”
“Agreed.”
“…”
“19 in favor, 1 abstention, 0 against, the motion is passed.”
Thump!
The sound of the gavel marked the conclusion of the matter.
“Yes!”
A chorus of scraping chairs followed as the twelve officers stood up in unison to salute.
“Oh my, you youngsters,” chuckled the only grandmother at the central conference table, “Back in my day, our old Chen was just like you lot, so stubborn.”
“Old Chen was tough, but he still ended up in the hands of Sister Tang.”
The skinny elder in the Tang suit joked.
“That’s right, I was quite the renowned talent in the capital back then.”
“Enough, enough, we’re in a meeting,” the leading elder in the Sun Yat-sen suit glared at them, “And you lot, sit down properly, stop standing.”
“Xiao Sun, the next item,” he said.
The young man responsible for reading the agenda hurriedly opened his file.
“NASA recently reported detecting a region in the South Atlantic where the magnetic field has significantly weakened and is continuously drifting and expanding. Their projections suggest that if this trend continues, it may lead to a magnetic field anomaly which could cause a reversal of Earth’s magnetic field, potentially turning the current South Pole into the North Pole.”
The video provided a simulation animation, and the Tingming Pavilion was hushed once more.
The faces of those present showed varying degrees of concern.
“Let’s hear it,” said the elder in the Sun Yat-sen suit, putting down his ceramic mug, a slight smile on his face.
“May I truly speak?”
At that moment, a gruff voice sounded from the outer seats, tinged with uncertainty.
Everyone looked to the source of the voice, spotting a burly middle-aged military officer.
“If I tell you to speak, you speak,” the old man looked at him with a genial smile.
“For real, before coming here, my adjutant told me to keep my mouth shut.” The burly officer muttered under his breath before clearing his throat and raising his voice, “I think this doesn’t quite add up. That Nasa-something-or-other said last year there might be a portal to a parallel universe at the South Pole. Isn’t that nonsense, haha…”
“Qin Zhenbei, we’re in a meeting,”
reminded the young officer nearest him, his mouth curling into a smile.
Qin Zhenbei glowered, “It’s Elder Wu who told me to speak. Did I say something wrong? Those Bald Eagles like to stir up all sorts of nonsensical issues to cloud the issue. I, Old Qin, don’t buy it.”
A few chuckled and nodded slightly, apparently entertained by his words.
“Zhenbei might be onto something. Besides, even if there was a magnetic field reversal, it’s not something our generation could solve. We’ve got to leave some challenges to the next generation, right?”
“So, I propose we do as previously suggested. Continue monitoring, no need for rash actions.”
“Agreed.”
“…”
“All in favor, the motion is passed.”
Thump!
The gavel’s sound resonated.
Everyone perked up; it was the last item on the agenda for the year’s summary meeting.
As the meeting drew to a close with the concluding remarks.
The elder in the Sun Yat-sen suit stood up.
“This year has been quite fruitful. We have made progress in all aspects of research on mutant creatures, with significant breakthroughs in paleontology… Finally, allow me to extend an early New Year’s greeting to everyone here.”
“I wish for great peace and safety in our great nation, and for endless martial fortune to our valiant soldiers.”
All twelve officers stood at attention, solemnly saluting.
“Long shall our blood endure, forging the bounds of our nation.”
The chant echoed through the meeting room, and the elders at the central table were visibly moved.
Mrs. Tang, whose surname was Tang, had tears brimming in her eyes.
Because that slogan had been cried out by her husband before he died for his country.
