Chapter 295: Chapter 295: Behind Her, Lu Youxi’s Devilish Zeal to Keep Her Stay
"I can’t just blindly invest without doing any due diligence, can I? When I ask you something, you refuse to answer, just wanting to take my money for nothing?" Zhou Xueyi said coldly, "Where do you think such a thing exists?"
"Chairman Zhou, it’s not that we lack sincerity, it’s just that the demands you’ve made are impossible for any company to agree to," Lu Youxi thought to herself with an inward sneer.
If this were Chengzhou Technology, they would have thrown someone out for this.
"You three just started your business, you know nothing, and you’ve never done business before," Zhou Xueyi thought the three were naive newbies and casually tried to bluff, "My requirements are very basic and reasonable."
But what Zhou Xueyi didn’t know was that Lu Youxi was an old hand in the business world.
Lu Youxi had guessed Zhou Xueyi was up to no good even without knowing his true intentions.
She wasn’t a newbie, so how could she be fooled by Zhou Xueyi’s little spiel.
Ji Deyi and Pei Jingyuan’s faces showed a hint of hesitation.
Although they were indeed newbies, they felt something was off with Zhou Xueyi’s words.
But even with their hesitation and lack of understanding, they trusted Lu Youxi.
Seeing Lu Youxi’s calm composure, unaffected by Zhou Xueyi’s words, they ceased to panic as well.
Lu Youxi stood up and said, "Chairman Zhou, you can’t be fooling me because I’m young. This wouldn’t fly anywhere. Why don’t you try giving the same talk to Chengzhou Technology?"
Zhou Xueyi: "..."
"What’s more, what do you have against our Little Pink Book? The cooperation with Chengzhou Technology is going so well," Lu Youxi said, "Think it over. We really do need the investment right now."
"No," Zhou Xueyi coldly replied, "I was indeed planning to invest, but you’ve shown no sincerity, so let’s forget the whole thing."
After saying that, Zhou Xueyi didn’t give Lu Youxi a chance to speak anymore. It’s almost as if he feared being convinced to stay and discuss further, and he hurriedly strode out of the office.
Cao Zhijie hurriedly followed him, and upon leaving the door, he saw Zhou Xueyi taking such large steps that it was almost a jog.
"Hurry!" Zhou Xueyi whispered to Cao Zhijie.
Cao Zhijie felt a chill in his heart and quickly followed Zhou Xueyi’s lead, picking up his pace.
The two of them clattered quickly down the stairs.
Just then, Lu Youxi came chasing out behind them, reaching out and shouting, "Chairman Zhou, let’s discuss this further. Don’t rush off, Chairman Zhou! You’ve just arrived!"
"Chairman Zhou, wait for me, Chairman Zhou!"
Amid Lu Youxi’s calls from behind, Zhou Xueyi rushed on, forgetting Lu Youxi’s previous warning that the stairs were narrow and shaky.
He misstepped on a stair and stumbled downward.
Thankfully, Cao Zhijie reacted quickly and grabbed onto Zhou Xueyi’s arm.
But even so, he only prevented Zhou Xueyi from tumbling down the stairs, not from sitting down hard on them.
The edge of the stair step harshly jabbed into Zhou Xueyi’s waist and buttocks.
"Ouch!" Zhou Xueyi yelped in pain.
Unfortunately, the staircase was too narrow to allow more than one person to pass at a time.
Cao Zhijie, barely able to stand behind Zhou Xueyi, struggled to grasp his armpits and pull him up.
It was a very awkward scene.
As Zhou Xueyi stood up, his waist and buttocks still ached terribly, and he even wondered if he had cracked a bone.
His suit was wrinkled and disheveled.
His back and buttocks were dusty with imprints from the stairs.
"Chairman Zhou, are you okay?" Cao Zhijie asked with concern.
Zhou Xueyi, clutching the painful area, was so hurt he could hardly speak. He could only wave his hand at Cao Zhijie weakly, the breathless voice barely squeezing from his throat, "Go..."
Cao Zhijie hurriedly assisted Zhou Xueyi from behind.
Zhou Xueyi waved his hand again, telling Cao Zhijie to let go.
He’d rather support himself.
But then came Lu Youxi’s devilishly enthusiastic call from behind, "Chairman Zhou, are you okay? I just heard a thud. Did you fall?"
Zhou Xueyi shuddered and quickly endured the pain, one hand clutching his waist and the other against the wall, he hastened his steps down the stairs.
"Chairman Zhou, take it slow, watch your step!" Lu Youxi called from behind.
Without turning his head, Zhou Xueyi rushed down the stairs and out of the internet cafe.
Ji Deyi and Pei Jingyuan stood on either side of Lu Youxi, curiously watching Zhou Xueyi’s retreating figure from inside the internet cafe.
They didn’t understand how the conversation had shifted to Zhou Xueyi suddenly acting as if a ghost were chasing him from behind.
Was their internet cafe really that frightening?
"Boss, this Zhou Xueyi really didn’t come with good intentions, did he want to steal our Little Pink Book’s core technology?" Pei Jingyuan asked.
Lu Youxi shook her head, "It doesn’t seem so, he left too quickly. I didn’t even get the chance to talk with him properly, to see what he really wanted."
"But what’s certain is that he wasn’t really here to invest," Lu Youxi continued, "I think, when he brought up our technology, it was probably just a pretext."
"A pretext? For what?" Ji Deyi was confused.
"It seemed like an excuse not to invest in us," Lu Youxi frowned, a bit perplexed, stroking her chin in thought, "He was so eager before to set up the meeting with us for this afternoon, it seemed he really wanted to invest. But why would he suddenly change his mind?"
For the life of her, Lu Youxi couldn’t figure out what Zhou Xueyi was thinking.
"Forget it, I don’t want to think about it anymore," Lu Youxi exhaled, "I need to get back to school. Since he’s now dropped the idea of investing, he can’t calculate against us anymore."
"Right, Ji Deyi, don’t you have class this afternoon as well?" Lu Youxi asked Ji Deyi.
"Yeah, I have to go back too," Ji Deyi replied.
"I’ve contacted the moving company and left Pei Jingyuan’s number," Lu Youxi said to Pei Jingyuan, "They should arrive around three o’clock this afternoon, and they will contact you then. This afternoon, you’ll have to keep an eye on things. You don’t have to move anything yourself, the movers will take care of it; just make sure nothing gets left behind."
"After moving to the new office, don’t tidy up; let’s wait until tomorrow, Saturday, when Ji Deyi and I are off. We’ll go together to sort things out," Lu Youxi instructed.
Luckily they were a small team with not many belongings – the three of them could handle it.
"Okay," Pei Jingyuan nodded in agreement.
After Zhou Xueyi and Cao Zhijie rushed out of the internet cafe, Cao Zhijie immediately supported Zhou Xueyi.
The driver was in the car, waiting while passing the time watching a TV show he had downloaded to his computer and transferred to his phone.
At that time, phones were not as smart as now, and there weren’t any video apps that allowed for instant online viewing.
You could only download shows to your phone to watch them.
