My Monster-Derived Skills Are the True Power -
Chapter 23: One-Sided Domination
Tong Yi's commentary was something Li Ye had prepped him for in advance.
How could a professional soccer match lack live commentary? In this world of martial arts, inner strength made it possible for a skilled fighter's voice to carry across the entire field without sounding strained or harsh. It felt as natural as a normal conversation. Coupled with the three-sided mountainous terrain of Wolf Valley, the natural echo created a perfect setup for commentary.
Li Ye had distributed booklets explaining the soccer rules beforehand, but many people either didn’t read them or couldn’t understand them. Live commentary not only explained the rules to the audience but also stirred up excitement—a win-win situation.
Initially, Li Ye planned to keep the handball technique hidden as his secret weapon. However, he realized that to truly popularize soccer, he had to be open about the rules. The effect of the handball causing a brief stun, though, was something he felt didn’t need publicizing—those who understood would understand, and those who didn’t, wouldn’t.
The commentary acted like a switch, reigniting the crowd's enthusiasm. Flags waved, and the chants of "Fun Seekers Must Win" and "Li Ye is Mighty" rang out in unison, boosting their team's morale while intimidating the opposition.
The soccer ball deflected by Gongsun Jie was intercepted by another player downfield, passed around a few times, and eventually ended up back at Li Ye's feet.
“A perfect pass! Li Ye has the ball again! Gongsun Jie is closing in—this is their second face-off in today’s game. Who will come out on top? Stay tuned!” Tong Yi’s commentary grew faster to keep up with the action, injecting a palpable tension into the air.
All eyes turned to Li Ye and Gongsun Jie as the crowd collectively held their breath. Those who had bet on Gongsun Jie felt a lump in their throats—especially after Li Ye had slapped Gongsun Jie to the ground in their previous clash.
Fuming, Gongsun Jie summoned all his inner strength, determined to crush Li Ye under his Heaven-Shocking Fist. His punches filled the air like a storm, leaving Li Ye seemingly with no room to dodge.“And there’s the breakthrough! Gongsun Jie’s ultimate technique has been countered. A perfect evasion—and yet another strike! Gongsun Jie has been knocked down again!”
“Brilliant! Another resounding slap! Just seconds into the game, Master Gongsun has been taken down twice by the same move. It seems his form isn’t at its peak today.”
“Even though it’s the same technique, Li Ye executed it differently this time—left cheek first, then the right cheek. Not only did he dodge Gongsun Jie’s killer move while controlling the ball, but he also unleashed a perfectly fluid slap. It’s like watching a dragon’s tail sweep across the heavens. I suggest we cheer for this masterpiece of skill: Dragon Tail Sweep! Dragon Tail Sweep!”
“Dragon Tail Sweep!”
“Dragon Tail Sweep!”
The synchronized chants of the Fun Seekers Club cheerleaders roared across the arena, shaking the very skies.
Tong Yi, now thoroughly engrossed in his commentary, grew even more excited. Scattered across his desk were the rough scripts Li Ye had prepared for him. Although initially embarrassed by the idea of providing commentary in front of a large audience, Tong Yi soon found himself overtaken by the match's energy. He felt an inexplicable surge of spiritual energy coursing through him, and his enthusiasm skyrocketed.
It was true—spiritual energy required influence to manifest. Who needed to play soccer to feel like a god? In this moment, Tong Yi believed he was born for this role.
Gongsun Jie was losing his mind.
Li Ye seemed entirely focused on the ball, leaving openings all over his body, as if one good punch could end him. Yet, no matter how Gongsun Jie attacked, Li Ye evaded every move with an eel-like slipperiness.
Even changing his tactics proved futile.
What drove him to despair was that every time Li Ye slipped past him, he’d land another slap, as if Li Ye’s hand had a mind of its own.
Another slap sent Gongsun Jie sprawling onto the ground. His face burned, and his spirit sank. Two consecutive slaps without landing a single blow—it was clear that Li Ye’s skill far surpassed his.
He thought Li Ye would seize the moment to finish him off, but instead, Li Ye sneered, spat disdainfully on the ground, and dribbled the ball away, leaving Gongsun Jie humiliated.
Realizing his own inadequacy, Gongsun Jie briefly considered retreating. However, Li Ye’s blatant provocation rekindled his fury. He sprang to his feet, silent but seething, and chased after Li Ye with renewed determination.
He couldn’t stand the disgrace.
He was the head of a martial sect! How could he lose to a mere boy? Gongsun Jie gritted his teeth, vowing silently, If slaps won’t kill me, my punches will devastate you. You’ll pay dearly for your arrogance!
“Gongsun Jie is charging forward once again! What spirit, what perseverance—that’s the indomitable spirit of competition!” Tong Yi’s voice boomed.
“His stride burns with the vigor of youth, but it’s clear he can no longer stop Li Ye from scoring. Xuanguang Sect’s defenders might as well be invisible!”
“As the saying goes, fear not the godlike opponent, but the teammate as dumb as a pig…”
Tong Yi, unfazed by Gongsun Jie’s desperation, skimmed through his script, adjusted for the current situation, and resumed his spirited commentary.
Meanwhile, Senior Brother Zhong Wenhao and Junior Sister Zhu Zhirou stood frozen, dumbfounded by the sight of Gongsun Jie being repeatedly humiliated.
They remained motionless, and Shi Xiang didn’t bother provoking them. After all, Shi Xiang wasn’t here to beat them—he was here to showcase thrilling soccer.
When Li Ye breezed past them with the ball, they instinctively braced for defense. However, Li Ye didn’t even glance at them, simply dribbling past as if they weren’t there.
“Pig-like teammates?”
Their faces turned crimson with embarrassment. What kind of ridiculous game was this? It was mortifying and infuriating.
But there was no turning back now. They couldn’t defeat Li Ye, and stepping forward only meant further humiliation—what if they ended up like Gongsun Jie, slapped senseless?
On the other hand, doing nothing would surely offend Xuanguang Sect. They’d lose face and connections, becoming the laughingstock of the martial world.
Why did I even come here? Zhong Wenhao regretted his decision bitterly.
“What do we do, Senior Brother?” Zhu Zhirou scanned the cheering crowd and asked anxiously.
“Let’s attack Shi Xiang. If we kill him, at least it won’t be a total loss. Perhaps we’ll even distract Li Ye and help Senior Gongsun.” Gritting his teeth, Zhong Wenhao drew his sword and prepared to fight.
“What about the others?” Zhu Zhirou asked.
“If they don’t move, we’ll leave them be. The two of us can handle Shi Xiang,” Zhong Wenhao replied firmly.
Zhu Zhirou nodded resolutely and drew her sword.
They had just taken a few steps when—
“GOAL! The ball is in! What a fantastic shot!”
Tong Yi’s jubilant voice rang out from the commentary box, startling the pair. They instinctively turned to look, only to see the stands erupt into chaos.
The spectators, clad in matching outfits, stood up in unison, blowing horns and waving flags as if it were New Year’s Day.
