My Lady Always Lacks Ambition -
Chapter 330 - 328: Following Master Indeed Broadens Horizons
Chapter 330: Chapter 328: Following Master Indeed Broadens Horizons
Qin Liuxi had agreed with Si Lengyue to first visit the Si family’s forbidden ground before heading to Xiangnan in search of the witch named Wuyang. Thus, they descended the mountain together and returned to the city, and coincidentally, the private residence that Si Lengyue had purchased in Li City was only two streets away from the Qin Mansion.
"I’ll pay a visit when I find the time," Si Lengyue said.
Qin Liuxi waved a hand and entered her own small courtyard through a side gate with her two young disciples, while those who had followed them back were taken by Li Cheng, who had come to open the gate, to be accommodated elsewhere.
"Master, is this your home?" Wang Chuan was very curious. Don’t they live in the Daoist Temple?
"Yes, this is my home and now yours too. Wherever I am, that’s your home as well; remember this," Qin Liuxi said with a smile.
Wang Chuan nodded vigorously.
Teng Zhao remained silent. After listening to the conversation between Qin Liuxi and his father, he naturally knew of her worldly identity and understood that the master was a young lady.
Her home resembled many of the family estates of noble houses; he wasn’t surprised.
However, he had heard that the master had a lot of family members.
Teng Zhao frowned, feeling a slight resistance in his heart; he didn’t enjoy being in contact with too many people and felt uncomfortable.
Qin Liuxi led them inside, and upon hearing the Little Ginseng Spirit’s reminder, Qi Huang had already run out from the courtyard.
"Master, you’ve returned, eh?" Qi Huang paused when she noticed the two little followers, and then when she saw the boy supporting Qin Liuxi with one hand, she was startled. Seeing Qin Liuxi limp as she walked, Qi Huang’s expression changed rapidly, and she quickly came forward to help: "What happened? Have you encountered the Five Disadvantages and Three Deficiencies?"
"It is indeed so," Qin Liuxi grimaced.
Qi Huang dared not say more, carefully helping her inside the courtyard.
The Little Ginseng Spirit, consistent as ever, peeked its head out from the corner of the wall, its leaves on top now more verdant and crystalline, nearly ready to sprout flower buds.
Wow, the great devil herself has a day of limping.
The Little Ginseng Spirit covered its mouth with its root tendrils, afraid to laugh out loud and risk having its root tendrils pulled.
"Come here."
Qin Liuxi’s gaze sharply swept in that direction.
Teng Zhao and Wang Chuan were startled for a moment. Who was the master talking to? Was there someone else in the courtyard?
The Little Ginseng Spirit pointed at itself. Was it being called? And in front of outsiders too?
"It’s you I’m calling. Hurry over," Qin Liuxi commanded.
The Little Ginseng Spirit then came out, dragging its root tendrils as it ran.
Teng Zhao was sharp-sighted, immediately looking over, his pupils dilating suddenly as blood rushed to his head.
Look what he saw—a tree, no, a ginseng flailing its limbs as it ran towards him; this was the highest quality ginseng he had ever seen.
Wang Chuan also noticed and exclaimed, pulling on Teng Zhao’s sleeve: "Senior Brother, look, that tree can actually run!"
Teng Zhao pulled back his sleeve. I saw it.
"I’m not a tree, I’m a ginseng, and a thousand-year-old one at that!" the Little Ginseng Spirit reprimanded them proudly after reaching them, hands on hips.
Teng Zhao and Wang Chuan: "..."
Were they dreaming? Otherwise, how could they see and hear a ginseng speaking human language?
Teng Zhao pinched the palm of his hand. It hurt; he wasn’t dreaming.
Following Master is indeed much more interesting; even ginseng can be encountered speaking.
"Even trees can talk?" Wang Chuan was somewhat stunned.
Teng Zhao glanced at her, rarely taking the time to explain: "It’s not a tree, but a ginseng, and moreover, one that has become a spirit."
In just a few days, he had witnessed paper cranes that could be momentarily granted life through magic, and now from Qin Liuxi’s mouth and books, he had learned about spirit monsters. Having now personally seen a ginseng spirit speak, he was certain this world was full of weird and wonderful things.
Truly an eye-opener.
The little ginseng spirit was very pleased, saying, "You recognize the good stuff, who might you be?"
"This is my newly acknowledged apprentice, Xuan Yi, Xuanxin." Qin Liuxi explained to the little ginseng spirit and Qi Huang.
Qi Huang was immensely surprised. She had taken on an apprentice?
The little ginseng spirit also let out a surprised "ya", and very appropriately plucked two little whisker roots from its body and presented them to Teng Zhao and Wang Chuan, saying, "Since you are the master’s apprentices, these are gifts for meeting you. When I bear fruit in the future, I’ll give you something even better."
Teng Zhao looked at the whisker roots still covered with slimy mud in his hand, almost wanting to toss them away.
"This little ginseng spirit has been cultivating for a thousand years, only lacking a little fate and opportunity to transform into a human. Even such small whisker roots are stronger in medicinal effects than the century-old ginseng, so you should just reluctantly accept it," Qin Liuxi said with slight disdain.
Seeing her disdain, the little ginseng spirit sadly held its head, "When I bear fruit, I will give a better one."
"This must be the umpteenth time I’ve heard you making such grand promises," Qin Liuxi scoffed, "Go and cultivate."
"Oh." Fearing he’d be further looked down upon, the little ginseng spirit scurried away without a trace.
Teng Zhao’s gaze followed the fleeing figure; dirty yet adorable, he wanted it.
Wang Chuan, however, presented the whisker roots with both hands to Qin Liuxi, saying in a sweet and tender voice, "Master, I offer this as a token of filial respect."
Qin Liuxi smiled and said, "You even know to show filial respect. A thousand-year-old ginseng spirit, even a little whisker root, is a treasure of heaven and earth. Eating it will be beneficial."
Teng Zhao also handed over the whisker root, "You can’t just eat it recklessly; it’s too potent. We’re still young and can’t handle it."
Qin Liuxi nodded with satisfaction, "That’s right. Even treasures of heaven and earth are not to be consumed carelessly. At your young age, if you can’t withstand the medicinal effects, you could suffer greatly. This is Sister Qi Huang, let her stew the meat soup for you to drink."
She handed the two whisker roots to Qi Huang for safekeeping and, while telling her the full names of the two apprentices, walked inside the house, asking, "Is Chen Pi on the outside?"
"He has been at the store these days, constantly longing for your return, saying he wants to follow you when you get back and doesn’t want to manage the store," Qi Huang said with a smile, glancing at Teng Zhao, "But it seems you might not need him by your side anymore."
Qin Liuxi replied, "Not necessarily, for now, let him manage the store; he is suitable for it. You know the nature of that business; ordinary people might not be able to handle it."
Qi Huang understood; after all, it involved dealing with ominous affairs which would scare ordinary people; indeed, it took a bold person to be the shopkeeper.
Qin Liuxi sat down and said, "Is there any good news at home? I can faintly hear laughter from a distance."
"The young lady from the northeast sent written messages and gifts; the Old Lady is delighted. Just yesterday, she even held a banquet," Qi Huang reported.
Qin Liuxi let out an "Oh" without much interest.
No wonder, it turns out the Old Lady’s most treasured daughter hadn’t forgotten her family, which must have been a relief.
Teng Zhao listened to her indifferent tone without lifting his gaze, silently arranging the teacups neatly, even making sure the patterns faced the same direction.
Seeing this, Qi Huang’s eyes widened in shock, looking at Qin Liuxi for explanation with her eyes.
"This child can’t stand filth and disarray; let him be," Qin Liuxi said, "Clean up the West Wing for Zhaozhao to move in; arrange a small bed in my room for Wang Chuan for now. Also, bring some water for us to wash up; later, I’ll take them to meet mother and the Old Lady."
In the future, both children would have to follow her closely; she definitely needed to inform them, lest they have misguided thoughts.
Thinking of this, Qin Liuxi frowned, feeling it was somehow inconvenient. Was it time to find a new place to live?
