Chapter 249: Chapter 248: One’s Fate, Two’s Luck, Three’s Feng Shui
Qin Liuxi didn’t head straight to the Si Family’s place in the middle of the night without any notice; instead, she stayed a night at Qinglan Temple. However, as soon as she woke up in the morning, after some divination, she realized that she probably wouldn’t be able to return to Li City today.
Yu Changkong was leaving today, and she couldn’t see him off.
After performing a complete cycle of the Grand Circulation, Qin Liuxi washed up and then cut out a small paper figure. She wrote the word "Ping’an" on it, recited a mantra, and, casting a spell, sent the paper figure on its way.
"Uncle-Master, Grandmaster invites you to have breakfast together," He Ming’s voice sounded from outside the room.
"I’m coming."
Qin Liuxi had breakfast with the Qinglan Temple Master and, under his guidance, met several disciples within the Daoist Temple before finally taking a carriage into the city.
Qinglan Temple was located in the suburbs, not far from the city gates. Utilizing the short distance, Qin Liuxi inquired about the barriers within the Qinglan Temple from its master, curious about the type of array that was powerful enough to even keep living souls outside.
"It’s the Gang Yuan Formation, capable of fending off all kinds of evil spirits and yin spirits. A living soul is also a soul, and if tainted with yin energy, naturally cannot enter. Otherwise, if an unknowing living soul were to offend any devotee staying within the temple, it could cause quite a dispute. Nonetheless, there are those with unique Life Charts and constitutions who can break through the array. Such people possess righteous hearts; even when they enter an Illusion Array, they can easily regain clarity."
"I see."
The Qinglan Temple Master said, "I heard from your master that Qingping Temple has also set up a Mountain Protection Array."
Qin Liuxi nodded, "It’s a necessity. Without it, the feng shui wouldn’t be strong, and Qingping Temple’s incense offerings wouldn’t thrive."
"That’s very good. With the Mountain Protection Array in place, Qingping Temple is blessed with Divine Descent, nurturing and protecting the local land and people, which is a deed of great merit."
While they spoke, the carriage smoothly entered the city.
He Ming, who was driving the carriage, asked, "Grandmaster, shall we go to the Si Family first, or...?"
"Let’s go to Prince Mansion first."
He Ming acknowledged the command.
Qinglan Temple Master said to Qin Liuxi, "It is an elderly gentleman. Lately, for some reason, every day after noon, he starts saying he sees ghosts and becomes frightened and groggy. At midnight, he develops a fever and only recovers at dawn. Their house doctor is quite skilled, and they’ve also invited renowned doctors for consultations. I’ve seen the prescriptions, which are meant to calm the mind and nourish the blood, but they are ineffective and the condition fluctuates unpredictably."
Qin Liuxi said, "Didn’t you mention he sees ghosts? If the prescriptions are ineffective, could it be the work of evil spirits?"
The Qinglan Temple Master shook his head, "At first, when his grandson came to seek help, I also thought it might be due to evil forces, but I’ve inspected the interior and exterior, and there is no trace of any Yin Object or evil spirit."
Not caused by ghosts, yet no illness could be diagnosed?
Qin Liuxi’s interest was piqued. She said, "You couldn’t diagnose it either? The Lifespan Extension Pill from your temple is a legacy of your Grandmaster. Logically, your medical insights shouldn’t be lacking either."
The Qinglan Temple Master gave a gentle smile, "The elixir recipe has always existed, and the Lifespan Extension Pills are refined according to it. As for medical skills, Qinglan Temple is indeed not on par with Qingping Temple, which produced a Divine Doctor like you. In terms of medical skills, your uncle-master is no match for you, according to your master as well."
Qin Liuxi almost grinned – the old man really held her in high regard.
To avoid appearing too proud and losing composure, she coughed and said, "In that case, let’s take a look and perhaps we can study this matter together."
The Qinglan Temple Master nodded with a smile, "Indeed, your uncle-master has the same intention."
He Ming drove the carriage steadily, and upon reaching the side entrance of the Prince Mansion, he hopped down to knock on the door. The servant peered at them and rushed to report. In just a moment, a person who looked like a steward came out.
"Why didn’t you have the little Taoist inform us in advance that the Temple Master himself was coming? We would have gone to welcome you," Manager Wang said with clasped hands in a greeting gesture.
Qinglan Temple Master said, "Thinking about Prince Wang’s illness, I happened to have a junior disciple who came to visit. She is extraordinary in medical skills, so I brought her here for a consultation with Prince Wang to see if we can uncover the cause of his ailment."
Manager Wang looked towards Qin Liuxi standing beside the temple master. He saw her dressed in a green robe, her hair secured into a Daoist bun with a wooden hairpin of unknown material, her face androgynous, cold and handsome.
What startled him was not Qin Liuxi’s age but her eyes. When she looked over, he inexplicably felt tense, as if all the secrets in the depths of his heart had been seen through.
The Qinglan Temple’s reputation was well known, and because the household held the Qinglan Temple Master in high esteem, Manager Wang did not dare to underestimate the Daoist, especially since the Qinglan Temple Master had personally brought her.
He stepped forward and saluted Qin Liuxi with his hands clasped, "It’s an honor that the Daoist has visited in person. I shall express our family head’s gratitude."
Qin Liuxi replied with a light smile, "As long as you don’t mind my interference."
Manager Wang instructed the servant to take the carriage away and led the Qinglan Temple Master inside, mentioning that the family head was in the backyard basking in the sun.
"Be careful, this is the wine sent by the Shao Family, the old master’s favorite. Mind your heads," a subordinate warned the servants carrying several jars of wine, noticing Qin Liuxi and the others and quickly stepping aside.
Qin Liuxi glanced at the scene while walking inside and observed the feng shui layout and furnishings of the Prince Mansion.
The Wang family’s feng shui must have been planned by someone, with it gathering the qi fortune that brings prosperity to the household. Even with some minor flaws in the arrangement, it could be ignored, and above the house was a faint auspicious aura, indicating that the Wang family’s fortunes were flourishing.
Such feng shui and qi fortune were indeed unlikely to have been influenced by evil spirits.
"Can you discern anything?" Qinglan Temple Master asked openly, not avoiding Manager Wang’s presence.
Manager Wang, however, pretended not to hear and kept leading the way, but his ears were alert since he also noticed Qin Liuxi examining the residence.
"Above the house is an auspicious aura, indicating prospering qi fortune; it seems the mansion will soon experience great joy," Qin Liuxi said with a light smile.
Manager Wang’s eyelids twitched.
He had heard news that his lord had made impressive achievements and, barring any accidents, could be promoted again, returning to Shengjing to be appointed in the Six Pavilions.
This news hadn’t spread yet.
"Did you help plan this feng shui layout?" Qin Liuxi asked in return.
Qinglan Temple Master smiled and nodded, "Take a look and see if there’s anything not good."
"Your guidance was excellent," Qin Liuxi smiled. "But that wall doesn’t need to have two doors."
Qinglan Temple Master and Manager Wang both looked in the direction she indicated. It was the wall leading to the inner residence, with two doors, one of which was a smaller door used by the servants. Since it was also adorned with carved beams and painted rafters, it did not detract from the overall aesthetics.
However, upon Qin Liuxi’s remark, it seemed somewhat abrupt.
Unable to hold back his curiosity, Manager Wang asked, "Does the little Daoist have any particular reason for this suggestion?"
"A double door in a wall invites gossip and conflicts, leading to quarrels among the family members, which is not conducive to unity," Qin Liuxi explained. "If you do not wish to block this smaller door, simply hang a curtain to cover it and cease using it to resolve the issue."
Manager Wang quickly noted this down, planning to report it later.
Qinglan Temple Master said with a laugh, "Your master said that you never do feng shui for others. It turns out you have done some research."
"I study all Mystic Sect arts a little. After all, sometimes exorcisms and ghost hunting also involve the Eight Diagrams Five Elements Feng Shui. Knowing is better than not knowing. But I avoid doing feng shui because it feels troublesome," Qin Liuxi said. "Feng shui may boost qi fortune, but in the end, isn’t the person’s own self the most important? Fate first, then fortune, and feng shui third."
"Indeed, fate first, then fortune, and feng shui third. The little Daoist does not seem like other Taoists who emphasize the importance of feng shui," an elderly voice came from the other side of the door.
