Chapter 142: Chapter 141: Meeting Without Recognition
Yu Qiucai didn’t care whether it was the Zhao Family or the Chen Family, what mattered was that Master Buqiu had granted him a favor, and nobody could bypass the master.
Watching his men invite the Zhao Family’s carriage inside, only then did Yu Qiucai turn towards Qin Liuxi and the others, but he didn’t go over, knowing before he came what kind of people had a conflict with the Zhao Family.
These were the family members of Qin Yuanshan, the former Minister of the Ministry of Rites who had been dispatched back to Li City, whereas the Zhao Family was currently the favored lackey of the esteemed Meng Family. The Meng Family and the Qin Family had always been at odds, presumably to pick a quarrel over this.
Yu Qiucai’s gaze swept past the girl wearing a veil and fell on Mrs. Wang’s face. Many years ago, he had seen Mrs. Wang. Now, many years later, things had indeed changed.
"Mrs. Qin, please enter the city as well. Do not linger here and unintentionally offend the real nobility," Yu Qiucai said to Mrs. Wang from horseback.
Mrs. Wang was somewhat surprised and asked, "You know me?"
"This official is the third master from the Marquis Zhenbei Mansion of the Yu Family, now the City Guardian of Li City. Many years ago at the Shengjing arena, I encountered Mrs. Qin and Mr. Qin walking arm in arm and exchanged greetings."
Mrs. Wang recalled and stepped forward a few paces, bowing in respect: "So it is Mr. Yu, thank you for helping us out of our predicament."
Yu Qiucai waved his hand and said, "It was simply fulfilling Master Buqiu’s entrusted task."
Eh, something doesn’t add up. That young man mentioned that these are Master Buqiu’s family members, but weren’t all the male members of the Qin family over the age of twelve exiled? So, who are these family members?
Yu Qiucai, a mere warrior, was too careful and never thought of Qin Liuxi as a female, nor did he realize that the Master Buqiu he knew was actually standing right in front of him.
Just as he was about to ask, he saw a dust cloud in the distance, clearly indicating an approaching carriage, and his men were leading it; he immediately understood who it was and hurriedly said, "Enter the city quickly, I must excuse myself."
Without waiting for Mrs. Wang to speak, he spurred his horse to meet the incoming carriages.
Mrs. Wang, though confused about who Master Buqiu is, saw that the other party had left and had to let it go.
"Mother, let’s get on the carriage," Qin Liuxi said.
Mrs. Wang nodded and said to Mrs. Xie, "Let’s go back to the mansion."
Both of them got on the carriage, but they didn’t leave immediately because Yu Qiucai was already leading the two carriages over, and to avoid collision, they had to wait.
The carriages rolled by with the sound of rolling wheels grinding against the gravel, cleaning a wide and empty straight path at the city gate to facilitate the passage of the procession.
Qin Liuxi half-squinted her eyes and recognized the guard on the tall horse, then saw his accompanying carriage, nearly rolling her eyes—just a few days and that Qi fellow had returned, bringing her trouble again.
However, her gaze fell on the carriage following Qi Qian’s, a modest yet spacious carriage, with wheels that upon touching the ground showed no signs of jostling—apparently equipped with excellent shock absorbers. And the carriage driver, tight-lipped, displayed a simple and honest demeanor, yet was clearly a well-practiced fighter.
Qi Qian’s carriage passed by Qin Liuxi without a moment’s pause, just as the mounted guards like Huo Lang didn’t even spare Qin Liuxi a glance as she stood beside her carriage.
It can’t be helped, Qin Liuxi was dressed like a lady and wearing a veil—who would recognize her.
Qin Liuxi chuckled as she watched the modest carriage pass by; a gust of wind lifted a corner of the carriage curtain and then dropped it, but she caught a glimpse of the person sitting inside.
A handsome young man in black clothes sitting upright.
"Quite a handsome fellow," she mused with a smile.
Inside the carriage, Yu Changkong’s ears twitched, he turned his head following the sound—did he hear wrong?
