Chapter 99: Ground Fellkin

"F-Four e–"

Murphy was in utter disbelief at what he heard.

In fact, it wasn’t only him.

Everyone, even the Fellkins, couldn’t help but momentarily pause the battle to look at Hal, their expressions varied.

Only Liora didn’t think he was crazy.

But this wasn’t the time for their side to second-guess their options, as the battle would resume in a matter of seconds.

They had to take risks.

Otherwise, they would more likely than not be overwhelmed.

Khan was holding his own against Lucien quite well, after all...

And so, knowing this, Liora quickly backed Hal’s claim:

"Sir Four Eyes, please give him a chance."

"Stop calling me Four Eyes!!" Murphy roared indignantly, adjusting his glasses afterward.

The Iridescent Willows were falling one by one in the near distance, and it seemed that Arran was about to return.

They had to make a decision before the main attacker of the Fell Cohort came back.

Murphy gritted his teeth.

How could he trust a brat who seemed to have just awakened his mana to fight a Fellkin ranked at peak C or low B in raw power?

Why the hell were they in this goddarned place anyway?!

To make matters worse, a Fellkin was no beast or mindless monster but a being capable of schemes more wicked than they could even imagine.

Surprisingly, Lucien decided for him:

"Murphy, do as the brat says!"

The bespectacled baldy naturally couldn’t refuse his captain’s orders, and so Hal was allowed to fight Amirra one-on-one, causing him to finally lose the battle against his grin.

Without hesitation, he took the initiative.

A blackish-purple magic circle with a silvery-vermillion glow appeared beneath Amirra, from which translucent chains surged upward, attempting to latch onto the subordinate Fellkin.

She noticed them instantly, stepped back, and grabbed the chains mid-air—ripping them to shreds with her bare hands.

But Hal expected that.

The chains were only a diversion.

Amirra didn’t notice the decently large greatsword already descending from above until it was nearly on top of her.

Still, she sensed the danger just in time.

"Tch. Annoying."

She caught the greatsword with both hands and applied enough force to crush the conjured weapon with a bit of effort.

But once again, that too was just a distraction.

A piercing ray of light was already flying toward her.

Unfortunately for Hal, Amirra managed to dodge at the last second, just barely, by tilting her head calmly so the beam only grazed her left cheek.

’Damn it, how can she stay so calm in battle?’ Hal cursed inwardly.

His comrades didn’t have the time to admire his rather clean spell combo, though, as Arran already made it back and was wreaking havoc again, creating craters as though he were merely tilling the land every time his attack was dodged by whoever he targeted.

Therese turned out to be far more slippery than she seemed, showcasing her veteran prowess as a rare Augur.

The battlefield was now divided into three: two duels and one four-on-two skirmish.

If Hal could indeed hold his ground as he claimed, then it could be said that they had managed to equalize things again.

Amirra, of course, wasn’t convinced and was angered that the human brat dared to underestimate her.

She quickly launched her counterattack after surviving Hal’s rather sneaky attempt.

Summoning blackish purple thunder spears, she controlled all three, making them stab towards Hal in an immaculately timed sequence.

Hal managed to dodge the first spear with a simple step back but was forced to evade the second with [Licht Step] and the third with [Blink].

To his horror, Amirra was already right in front of him, her fist crackling with thunder as she threw a punch.

His face would’ve been crushed had it not been for his quick thinking of summoning a [Reinforced Earthen Wall] from the ground, pushing the female Fellkin skyward.

Consequently, Hal managed to create some distance, quickly swapping some of his cards and buffing himself with [Swift], [Enduring], and [Serene] before switching the cards out again.

The system’s limitations cost him the chance to counterattack, though.

By the time he finished the swaps, Amirra was already descending upon him like a meteor.

But Hal was ready.

He knew he had to end it with a vicious combo that wouldn’t allow his opponent to do anything even if she managed to react.

While he wasn’t immediately able to counterattack, Hal was at least able to form a plan in his head, and everything began with a nice, scorching [Geyser] charge.

Preparing one right beneath him, Hal feigned a desperate expression, gritting his teeth as Amirra descended upon him, only to dodge at the last second by jumping backward.

It wasn’t the female fellkin’s attack that he evaded but the range of his own spell.

The next moment, before Amirra was able to form a crater with her fists, a burst of scorching water erupted from beneath, shooting her back up to the skies.

It was time to execute his vicious combo.

Targeting himself with [Dark Grip], Hal almost simultaneously used [Spatial Swap], switching places with his target and ending up in the skies himself.

This unexpected move left the disoriented and unprepared Amirra trapped by the tough black hands emerging from the ground, holding her in place.

"Die, Fellkin!"

In the next moment, a black orb materialized in front of the female Fellkin, pulling her in.

Amirra quickly realized she was in danger, but her options were limited.

The young female Fellkin swiftly tried to blink away or retreat into a void pocket for safety.

However, the dark hands seemed to have the property of disabling both once they had latched on.

"RAAAGHHH!" She bared her fangs, roared in anger, and went berserk in trying to free herself, showcasing the difference between her race and the humans as she attempted to rip one hand after another.

She looked more like a monster whose survival instincts were kicking in at that specific moment.

Unfortunately, merely raging didn’t grant her the sudden strength needed to break free from a tight hold, especially when the grip was solid.

She managed to tear off a few of the hands, but it wasn’t quite enough to secure her freedom.

Amirra was sucked more and more into the [Gravity Ball] despite her struggles, and soon...

"AAAAAHHHHH!" A spine-chilling death cry, sounding like a mix between a beast’s roar and a banshee’s scream, tore from her throat, capturing everyone’s attention and momentarily pausing the battle once more.

What they saw made everyone’s eyes widen.

A short distance away, Amirra was slowly being shredded into scraps of purple flesh and black bone shards, scattering and splattering everywhere.

Her struggles to escape the dark grip were destroyed along with the spell itself.

Two more seconds later, only the eerie silence of the [Gravity Ball] remained.

One of the Fellkins had perished under the hands of a mere human brat.
