Chapter 97: Blue Skies
Chapter 97: Blue Skies
Hal and Liora froze at the sight, aghast.
The unexpected intervention bought them a few precious seconds, as even Arran turned his attention to the beast, but they couldn’t feel the slightest relief as a realization dawned on them.
Who else could’ve killed the Stormshade, if not the Fellkin party from earlier?
The trio had to be at least high B-tier to slay an A-ranked beast, perhaps even A-tier themselves...
Sure enough, a familiar voice sounded a few dozen meters behind Hal the next moment, followed by footsteps:
"Arran? Why are you here? Weren’t you supposed to b–"
Khan couldn’t finish his words, however, as his eyes fell upon the other human.
"You, how did you escape?" the young Fellkin turned to Liora, gazing at her coldly. "Hmph, no matter..."
Khan soon proceeded to ignore her with a snort, turning his attention to Hal and sizing him up.
"Weak."
The humans wouldn’t be able to escape four of them anyway, so he could just catch the female again after killing the male.
"Huh? Shut up, Khan. Since when do I take orders from you? Isn’t it enough that I lent you Amirra to complete one of your objectives?" Arran butted in, not giving his rival even a bit of face.
Based on the conversations, it seemed that the two female fellkins were the males’ subordinates and that their young masters weren’t on good enough terms to be working together willingly.
Perhaps they were cooperating only because of their missions.
Despite this, the duo’s hearts were slowly gripped by despair as the realization settled in: there was no chance for them to escape.
The only thought Hal found solace in was that Loki had managed to hide somewhere.
He could only hope the young cub would live a long life...
"Hmph, is that any reason for you to be delaying?" Khan retorted. "The longer we take to complete our objectives here, the higher the chances that the humans will discover our existence.
We’re lucky these two are weak and can be silenced easily, but what if we stumbled upon someone who can escape from us?
We must activate the portal as soon as we can and call upon at least two hundred of our brethren. I’ve already secured enough monster cores and the beast offering. What have you even accomplished? Just wait until I get the chance to report that you’ve been fooling around in human lands and see what happens to you."
The two young fellkins argued for a good few moments.
Meanwhile, Hal slowly inched his way over to where Liora was, his brain still trying to find a solution.
But there was nothing he could come up with...
Buying them a few more seconds, sure, but a total escape seemed impossible.
Inevitably, the two young masters of the Fellkin race grew tired of each other’s voices and finally turned their attention to the two of them.
"Heh, you cheeky bastard... you still dare to scheme in this situation? You’re done for. Give up," sneered Arran.
He knew quite well that Hal had a few tricks up his sleeve, but none warranted his worry.
Khan, on the other hand, spoke to Liora:
"Now then, woman, why don’t you come over to my side? I shall guarantee your safety."
"Huh? What are you talking about? I found her first. She’s mine."
Hal was about to try and flee with Liora again, hoping to take advantage of the two young masters being distracted, but the two underlings, Akara and Amirra, blocked his path.
’Damn it... I can’t die here...’ He gritted his teeth, still searching for an opportunity, though his heart was now racing, the cold whispers of death brushing against his mortal ears.
He desperately refused to die, but he wasn’t being given a choice.
Just when his skies were turning gray...
It turned silvery-blue as a massive magic circle appeared, unleashing a raging blizzard and rain of icicle shards.
An extremely thick mana barrier then formed around Hal and Liora, taking the shape of a dome and shielding them from the elements.
The Ice Magna Prospect, Lucien Winter’s rescue squad, had arrived.
"Murphy, Yve, protect the lady and that brat. Monk, Therese, hold that Fellkin down. I shall handle this one."
Soon, the blizzard subsided, and the Fellkin were now somewhat scattered.
The balding, bespectacled young man named Murphy and the green-haired young woman named Yve swiftly acted on their captain’s orders and landed in front of Hal and Liora, facing the fell subordinates, Amirra and Akara.
The muscular Monk and the short, gold-haired Therese, on the other hand, began attacking Arran, while the silvery-blue-haired Ice Magna Prospect, Lucien Winter, descended from the cover of an Iridescent Willow, facing Khan.
The grim situation suddenly turned into a promising skirmish with decent options for Hal and Liora.
They could flee... but they could also help the wizard squad, who wore the official uniforms of the Imperial Wizard Guild.
The few precious seconds mattered, after all!
It wasn’t a difficult decision, as the second choice was not only safer—especially since Hal had just recognized the Ice Magna Prospect—but also the more moral one.
The only drawback was that if Lucien’s squadron lost, they would go down with the ship and perish alongside them.
Such a thing wasn’t too bad.
Besides, who said they would lose?
Hal and Liora observed first as the battle intensified.
Monk and Therese worked together flawlessly, with the brawny wizard somehow managing to fight Arran using a similar melee style.
Still, it was clear he would have been overpowered without his comrade’s timely interruptions.
Therese restricted the young male Fellkin’s movements, forced him to choose between dodging or continuing his attack, and enhanced her ally with various runes that only seasoned Augurs like her could use.
It was clear that the two of them had been working together for quite some time now and trusted each other a great deal.
The battle behind them was also picking up.
The balding, short, and bespectacled Murphy stood on his elemental staff, flying around and circling Amirra as he fired lethal Wind Cutters.
Yve, on the other hand, wasn’t too good at offense, but her defense was literally rock solid.
Her [Reinforced Earthen Walls] were far thicker and tougher than Hal’s, shielding her from Akara’s dark purple lightning spears before crumbling into hundreds of lethal rock shards that flew toward the subordinate Fellkin in a fierce counterattack.
But perhaps the most exciting fight in Hal’s eyes was Lucien’s.
He had watched a broadcast in the past showcasing how destructive the Magna Prospect’s ice elemental spells were, and he was sure that, in terms of raw power, Lucien’s spells wouldn’t lose out and might even surpass Khan’s.
Void orbs and rays of darkness shot toward the Ice Magna Prospect, which Lucien easily countered with a [Reinforced Ice Wall].
Hal had never imagined that the destructive orbs, similar to the one Arran had fired, could be stopped so easily.
It seemed his spells still lacked effectiveness.
An ice pillar then suddenly rose from beneath Lucien’s feet with enough force to propel him above the wall, allowing him to fire back with a barrage of icy shards and glacial comets before landing gracefully back down.
The ongoing battle completely destroyed the surroundings, and it was clear which fights Hal and Liora had business joining, and which ones they didn’t.
Without hesitation, Hal dashed toward Murphy’s battle while Liora headed to assist Yve.
They would take out the weaker subordinates first.
