Chapter 93: Lucien Winter
Chapter 93: Lucien Winter
Three knocks sounded on the door of a luxurious office.
"Lord Korvus, Lucien Winter has arrived to answer your summons..." reported the tan-skinned assistant, Omar, as the silvery-blue-haired young man and his squad waited behind him.
Of course, Korvus had already known for some time that the young Ice Magna Prospect had arrived at the academy and had been prepared to receive him.
"You may enter."
Omar and the talented youngsters entered upon receiving confirmation, the young Magna Prospect sporting a wide smile that didn’t align with his reputation as a cold, almost emotionless young man.
Lucien offered a sincere bow toward Korvus, clearly showing his respect for the old man.
"Deputy Headmaster Korvus, it’s been quite some time. I’m glad to see you’re doing well..."
"Hahaha, am I merely imagining things? Lucien Winter taking the initiative to greet and smile at this mere deputy? You used to sneer at me in disdain, did you not?" Korvus joked in response to the greeting.
"Aihh... hahaha..." chuckled the prospect in embarrassment. "Please pardon my insolence back then, honorable deputy. As you know, I only respect competence... and I didn’t expect you to actually be quite the combat wizard, even after being retired for years..."
"Hahaha," Korvus laughed heartily. "Well, enough of the pleasantries. I’ve requested you today because I believe you’re the perfect man for the job..."
The two discussed the task in detail, the frown on Lucien’s face deepening as he slowly began to understand the entire situation.
The young man clearly didn’t like the mission given to him.
Unfortunately, even his master couldn’t reject the emperor’s orders, so he had to carry it out, whether he wanted to or not.
Lucien had a soft spot for women, but only for those who were competent.
Liora Whitemane, with her seed of luminosity, could be considered one, but the young Ice Magna Prospect held slightly higher standards than others.
While he would normally have no qualms about saving a young woman like her, the difficulty of the mission in relation to the one being saved didn’t sit right with him, so he was slightly displeased with the task.
Nevertheless, Lucien had always been confident in himself.
The job would only become easier with a team of trusted underlings ready to follow his every command.
"Sigh, fine then. I shall look for this maiden to the best of my abilities," the young Magna Prospect sighed, leaving the office with his squad the next moment.
A few days prior, Korvus and his men’s efforts had finally yielded some results.
With a bit of digging, they were able to uncover why Liora had risked herself to enter the Ancient Great Forest of Eordyrr, where she had entered from, and where she was likely headed.
This was Lucien’s lead in finding her.
The agreement, however, was that no matter what happened after a month, the young Ice Magna Prospect would return and claim his rewards from the Imperial Treasury.
The elderly Deputy Headmaster could only pray that Lucien would be able to bring Liora back, and hopefully alive.

Inside a certain runeforest, a black-haired young man yawned, glancing in the direction of his captured comrade.
It had been a month since Liora was caught by the orcs and the expected war, but nothing had happened yet.
He had grown somewhat comfortable in his current hiding spot, even finding the courage to send the Spirit Sparrow on a faraway mission to check what was going on with the Hobgoblins and the Forest Trolls.
To his surprise, while skirmishes were happening here and there, it seemed more like the Hobgoblins were merely probing the Forest Trolls and keeping them on edge.
The brutes seemed exhausted from the Hobgoblins’ attacks.
It was evident from the Hobgoblins’ camp that the trolls, too, had mounted a few counterattacks, but the war still hadn’t ended and was only just beginning to rage on.
Today didn’t seem any different from the past few.
However, it was when one didn’t expect something to happen that it happened.
The orcs suddenly began assembling under the command of five Orc Captains, an Orc Shaman, and another slightly larger and more horrifying orc, who seemed to be the leader of the attack.
Even this brute, however, appeared to only be following the orders of the Fellkins.
Hal sat up, frowning as he watched, while Loki, who had grown a little larger again, slept soundly behind him.
The cub had somehow developed a skill for climbing trees, likely due to them lingering inside the runeforest for a little over three months now.
The orc army began picking up their weapons and lining up, each receiving a purple pill from the female Fellkin shortly after.
Naturally, by this point, Liora was staying alert.
Hal said he would get her out of the cage, which would probably happen once the orcs left.
She had to be ready to sprint with everything she had the moment the opportunity arose.
Around an hour later, the orcs began marching toward the troll camp, seemingly siding with the Hobgoblins for this war.
Only about ten Orc Warriors and an Orc Captain remained to guard Liora; even the two Fellkins left with the army.
All ten appeared to have strict orders to guard Liora closely, though, as they only patrolled the area around Khan’s tent.
With the Orc Captain present, it would be impossible for the female human captive to escape, even if she somehow managed to get out of her metal cage.
What they didn’t expect was that there was a rat in the vicinity who had evaded their eyes all this time.
To make things worse, this rat possessed quite a number of spatial-type spells, despite the extreme rarity and difficulty of mastering them.
The orc army slowly disappeared into the trees and shrubbery.
For the first few minutes, the monster guards checked on Liora from time to time, but their discipline quickly waned the more they looked at the cage and believed that escaping was simply impossible with the captain around.
Some began chatting in their tongue, a few trained their bodies, and others wrestled to chase away boredom.
The Orc Captain didn’t stop his underlings and even appreciated their dedication to growing stronger.
This was the exact moment Hal was waiting for.
