Chapter 107: Arcana Primis Cup Begins!
"That’s all. Sir Hal Fennec, your registration has been finalized," confirmed the female registration officer at Gaora City Hall. "Please follow the guidelines in this participant’s pamphlet to avoid any trouble during the tournament."
"Thank you." Hal gave a slight bow, retrieved his identification documents from the counter, and left the building with a smile on his face.
Today was the last day to confirm his registration.
Fortunately, although just barely, he managed to arrive in Gaora City on time.
That petty old man, who hadn’t allowed him to join the five-star students’ convoy, had just lost all of his respect.
Hal had to spend his own money and travel alone to the site of the Arcana Primis Cup’s Main Tournament, but at least the old man hadn’t gone back on his word and had agreed to a new arrangement that would benefit him greatly.
If Deputy Headmaster Korvus judged and treated a person solely by their potential and usefulness to the empire, then Hal would speak his language by winning the tournament and proving himself the most valuable among all the young competitors.
Seeing the old man struggle to act differently toward him afterward would be a sweet victory in Hal’s eyes.
’But first I have to make sure I don’t get disqualified for dumb reasons...’
So he checked the pamphlet as he walked back, temporarily setting aside his admiration for the city’s architecture and vibrance that he had enjoyed earlier on his way to the Gaora City Hall.
There wasn’t much to learn about the rules.
Basically, as long as he didn’t arrive later than the time indicated in the pamphlet and didn’t act like an absolute scumbag, he would be safe from disqualification.
What really caught his attention were the rewards.
All he had ever discussed with the deputy headmaster, even in the past, was mere participation.
To him, being recognized by the empire as a talent worth grooming and protecting, and earning a lot of Chaos Points, was already enough of a reward.
He had almost forgotten there were actual prizes for the winners.
’D-Damn...even just reaching the top eight would qualify one for a reward?’ Hal mused in disbelief.
Of course, the higher the placement, the juicier the winnings.
’Let’s see...first place rewards...’
Looking at the list, Hal’s eyes widened as his eyes laid on the rewards for the Arcana Primis Cup Champion:
==
10 B-Ranked Arcane Cores
20 Prime-Grade Mana Training Tonics
20 High-Grade Health Potions
20 High-Grade Mana Potions
50 Gold Coins

1-Year Validity Free Meal Card for Any Imperium-Accredited Restaurant
Lifetime Free Membership at Flexpecto Patronum Fitness Center
1 Rare-Tier Mastercraft-Grade Weapon-Type Artifact from the Imperial Treasury

"H-Holy sh*t!" Hal’s backwater brain struggled to process the rewards, thinking they were too much for mere novice wizards like them.
But on second thought, there were Magna Prospects, disciples of former Magnas, heirs of prominent Wizardry Clans, and five-star students of the Grand Magic Academy, many of whom came from the aristocracy.
The rewards had to be this generous, or none of those high-profile youngsters would join, and the tournament would end up bland and lacking prestige.
It was just that the fifty gold coins alone were probably more than he would have earned in his entire life if he hadn’t been chosen by Chaos.
’F-F*ck, I can’t afford to lose now, can I?’
Forget bringing his mother to a town near Aeloria—if he won, he could even bring her to live inside Aeloria City.
While he probably wouldn’t be able to purchase property right away, renting a place until he saved up enough wouldn’t be a problem.
With newfound vigor and blazing determination, Hal struggled to sleep that night, his mind still fixed on the first-place rewards.
Only when the night was deep did he manage to drift off.

Time inevitably passed.
The warm rays of sunlight caressed Hal’s eyelids, while loud explosions in the sky assaulted his eardrums, slowly bringing him back to the waking world.
He yawned, stood up, and prepared himself for a spicy day.
For such a day, it was fitting that he ate a spicy meal in the hotel’s buffet area, jolting his entire being awake and ready for battle.
He then returned to his room to bid his trusty companion goodbye.
"Loki, you know what to do."
"Arf!"
Leaving the smart, cross-eyed cub behind for the time being, marching bands greeted Hal, their instruments telling tales of passion, youth, and the future.
Colorful confetti occasionally shot skyward before raining down onto the streets, heralding the beginning of the much-anticipated Arcana Primis Cup Main Tournament.
Hal, along with the majority of the crowd, was headed toward one location: the Gaora Public Square, where four smaller arenas and one main arena had been set up, along with special barriers to ensure the crowd’s safety from terrifying spells.
Of course, the participating wizards themselves will be under more complex protection spells that would allow them to go all out without worrying about their safety.
The worst that could happen is that they would lose consciousness for a few dozen moments.
Hal’s mind wasn’t on such arrangements, though, as he was gunning for the championship.
How could the Arcana Primis Cup’s champion be lying on the ground, unconscious?
There was no room for such thoughts if he truly wanted to win.
Walking toward the square with the swarm of people, Hal’s competitive spirit and youthful fire ignited.
Aside from bringing his mother out of the sticks, this was something he truly wanted.
He wished to see how he stacked up against others his age from different regions of the vast and massive Imperium.
And he didn’t have to wait much longer.
Upon arriving, he saw that the massive public square had been transformed into an arena.
Rows of seats, each higher than the last, surrounded the square to accommodate the growing crowd.
Whether it would continue to hold everyone as people poured in from all directions of Gaora City remained to be seen.
Scanning the area, he spotted the prestigious entrance reserved for competitors.
All eyes were fixed on that spot, and every young participant who entered was scanned from head to toe.
Hal headed over with excitement coursing through his veins.
It was time to let the empire know that Chaos’ Chosen, Hal Fennec, existed.
