Chapter 50: Chapter 19 Prenatal Checkup (Part 1)_2
The others nodded in agreement, their gazes towards Du Xixi growing more admiring. If it was already wondrous for Du Xixi to win Ke Lian’s heart, then Du Xixi’s ability to prepare a sumptuous feast was nothing short of awe-inspiring.
They all hailed from noble families, even Zhang Xiong, the most ordinary among them as a deputy, had managed to elevate the Zhang Family to aristocratic status due to his own strength.
Though it sounds somewhat realistic, their friendship with Ke Lian was not only due to compatible temperaments but also had much to do with social standing.
Being part of the upper circles meant having more common topics, allowing them to interact without forced closeness or awkward silences. For nearly a century, they had been close brothers, with few moments of discord.
Given their backgrounds, "Stone Rice" was naturally a frequent guest at family tables. Whereas it used to be compared favorably against the Nutrition Supplement, being a research outcome of the Cultural Relics Bureau for many years, it was naturally considered delicious.
However, after tasting Du Xixi’s cooking, the benchmark for "Stone Rice" shifted to Du Xixi’s culinary creations. What was once endlessly palatable now pales even against the Nutrition Supplement.
Though the Nutrition Supplement’s taste was lacking, at least it replenished energy and wasn’t harsh like the throat-scratching "Stone Rice."
Thinking of this, the brothers exchanged glances, shooting Ke Lian envious looks. Hadn’t Du Xixi and Ke Lian been married and apparently deeply in love, they might have considered competing for her affections.
After all, from family background to appearance, temper to exquisite culinary skills, Du Xixi was someone to be desired. But too late is too late; they understood the principle of not coveting a friend’s wife.
Pursuing her was a missed chance, but respecting her as the sister-in-law and snagging some free meals was still quite feasible.
"I’m glad you like it." Du Xixi’s eyes were tender as she leaned gently against Ke Lian’s shoulder, her expression showing a hint of tiredness.
Ke Lian had pampered her to the point of fragility these days. Today, even with 2569 doing the dirty and hard work, she hardly exerted herself but was still somewhat exhausted.
Feeling the weariness of the person beside him, Ke Lian lovingly raised his hand to stroke her face. Finding it slightly cool, he frowned, "Shall I and 2569 take you upstairs to rest?"
Du Xixi helplessly nodded, clearly aware she couldn’t keep pushing herself, and smiled apologetically at Mo Feng and the others before slowly making her way upstairs with Ke Lian’s support and 2569’s care.
Downstairs, Mo Feng and the others exchanged smiles without saying a word, simply awaiting Ke Lian’s return downstairs.
Ke Lian knew his brothers were still waiting, so after carefully instructing Du Xixi and 2569, he worriedly stepped out, frowning as he went downstairs to deal with the rascals who tired his wife.
The door closed lightly behind him, and silence ensued. Du Xixi had changed into pajamas and lay in bed, her soft long hair spread over the sheets beneath the quilt, making her pale face look even more ashen.
crouched by the bedside, carefully observing Du Xixi’s physical condition, prepared to summon Ke Lian at the first sign of anything amiss.
As night deepened, with the curtains tightly drawn, a white orb of light inside Du Xixi’s body gradually emitted energy. It flickered, becoming dimmer, yet Du Xixi’s complexion slowly grew rosy.
Everything changed quietly, like a white flower blooming in the dark night, seemingly blossoming and revealing its splendor under the moonlight.
Downstairs, Ke Lian wore a stern face as he "interrogated" the unannounced brothers.
"Speak, whose idea was it?" Ke Lian huffed coldly, glaring at the brothers seated upright before him, showing no intention of letting them off.
He was upset not just because they had tired Du Xixi, but also due to their probing of her, which he found displeasing.
Du Xixi was the cherished love of Ke Lian’s life. Not only was his affection for her deepening, but with Du Xixi being pregnant and registered as the Marshal’s Wife on the Star Network, she was not to be tested.
Mo Feng and the others’ probing felt like an offense to Du Xixi, perhaps something she didn’t realize or care about, but it left Ke Lian feeling deeply apologetic.
