Chapter 36: Chapter 14: That Night_3
He merely pressed his thin lips together, quietly leading 2569 out. Once the door was closed, ensuring they wouldn’t disturb Du Xixi’s rest, he lowered his voice and asked 2569, "Does Xixi feel unwell every day?"
didn’t know that its master, the Marshal, was unaware of his wife’s pregnancy. It merely assumed Ke Lian was inquiring about Du Xixi’s physical condition after pregnancy. So, its electronic screen nodded, "Yes."
Ke Xing and Mo Ying also came upstairs. Seeing Ke Lian’s poor complexion and disheveled state, they were momentarily at a loss for words, merely exchanging a few glances and sighing silently.
The three of them, along with the robot, went downstairs and sat on the sofa to start a quiet conversation. It’s just that...
Ke Lian just assumed Du Xixi’s health had always been poor, so he didn’t ask more questions proactively. Meanwhile, the other two and the robot assumed Ke Lian had already heard about the pregnancy from Du Xixi, so they also refrained from saying more.
And so it went, until the evening when Du Xixi groggily came around and carefully walked downstairs, Ke Lian still didn’t know about her pregnancy.
As soon as Ke Lian looked up, he saw Du Xixi cautiously descending the stairs while holding the railing, and he hurriedly went to support her, asking in a concerned, low voice, "Are you feeling better?"
Ke Lian asked softly by Du Xixi’s ear, his deep voice and warm breath on her neck and earlobe causing her face to redden involuntarily.
Feeling a bit uneasy, Du Xixi twisted her neck slightly and replied in a low voice, "I’m much better. Thank you for today."
Du Xixi actually felt embarrassed. Clearly, Ke Lian had returned triumphantly and should have had a good rest, but because of her poor health, he first worried about her before coming home, and even after returning, he couldn’t relax and rest properly.
So sorry...
"No need, it’s what I should do." Ke Lian smiled bitterly and shook his head. He had always felt that Du Xixi was too polite, somewhere between being married and treating him like a distant stranger.
He had decided to get along well with Du Xixi and spend the latter half of their lives together, naturally, he wasn’t pleased with Du Xixi being so courteous.
"Xixi, are you feeling better?" Mo Ying came out of the kitchen, saw that Du Xixi was being carefully supported by Ke Lian and was now safely sitting on the sofa, and smiled knowingly while asking with concern.
She had known from the beginning that Ke Lian was indeed different when it came to Du Xixi.
"Sister Mo Ying, I’m fine now." Du Xixi turned her head, seeing her wearing an apron and holding a spatula, was a bit taken aback, "Are you...?"
Mo Ying looked down and suddenly remembered she still had something cooking in the pot. She quickly returned to the kitchen but didn’t forget to explain to Du Xixi, "You’ve been too tired lately. Uncle Ke and I decided we need to learn to cook, so you can take it easy."
Du Xixi nodded appreciatively, just about to get up and express her thanks, when she noticed that "Uncle Ke" mentioned by Mo Ying was not around, so she turned to ask Ke Lian, who was intently watching her, "Where’s Dad?"
Ke Lian didn’t take his eyes off her; the gentleness in his gaze was enough to make one’s heart flutter. His tone was also unprecedentedly gentle, "Father was invited out and won’t return until the day after tomorrow."
Du Xixi responded with an "Oh," relaxedly leaning back on the sofa, subconsciously hugging a throw pillow to her bosom, and gently patting her abdomen. Her movements were so light that Ke Lian didn’t pay attention, assuming it to be an unconscious action.
Mo Ying soon came out with the dishes along with 2569. It must be said that her watching Du Xixi cook the other day wasn’t in vain. Although the appearance and taste were much lesser than Du Xixi’s, it was edible... at least better than the "Stone Rice" Du Xixi had eaten during the Star Era.
After the meal, Mo Ying, being considerate, decided to stay at her own place for a night since her brother Mo Feng also returned from the front lines. Du Xixi and Ke Lian didn’t think much of it, and once 2569 went off to its own corner, the two of them went hand in hand to their room to rest.
Du Xixi was the first to finish freshening up, wearing pajamas she sat on the edge of the bed, holding a thick towel in her hand, carefully drying her damp hair ends from the shower.
Ke Lian always showered quickly. He went into the bathroom after Du Xixi, and in just five minutes, he was clean and came out, strolling leisurely.
He had taken off his military uniform and was wearing blood-red pajamas of the same color as Du Xixi’s. The scars of varying sizes on his body were blurred in the night light yet added to his aura of vitality, intimidating at a glance.
However, Du Xixi wasn’t afraid of Ke Lian. Perhaps having experienced Ke Lian’s gentle care, she understood that his cold exterior was merely a façade for protection, and now she even found herself in the mood to smile gently at Ke Lian.
The night lamp was a soft yellow, and under the light, the girl sitting down bore skin fairer than snow, with a faint pink hue. Her ink-black hair draped over her body, presenting a stark black-and-white contrast. Her smile was so gentle that even her peach blossom eyes were brimming with soft light, straight into Ke Lian’s heart.
Ke Lian slowly approached, casually tossed the thick towel onto the bedside table, and with his other hand held the girl’s supple neck, softly pressing his lips onto hers.
