Lu Weixi shook her head. She hadn’t eaten or drunk much over the past three days and nights, leaving her body extremely weak. As soon as she was sent to the hospital, the doctor gave her saline water to drink and administered intravenous fluids with saline and glucose for a long time. Even now, she was still hooked up to an IV to alleviate her dehydration symptoms.

When the interrogation team came earlier, they actually brought her some water, which she drank. She wasn’t very thirsty anymore, so she shook her head.

"Then are you hungry?"

Qin Zhiyou opened the food container, and the rich aroma of chicken soup wafted out instantly.

He explained, "I don’t know if the food here tastes any good. I heard you just had surgery and can’t eat salt, but there’s really no better option for now. Tonight, I’ll try to get someone to make something better for you."

Lu Weixi still smiled and shook her head, her gaze fixed on him the entire time.

Lu Weixi nodded and reached for the bed controls to sit up against the headboard. But instead of handing her the chopsticks, Qin Zhiyou scooped some food with a spoon, clearly intending to feed her.

Lu Weixi froze for a moment, but then obediently opened her mouth, letting Qin Zhiyou feed her spoonful by spoonful. "You should eat too."

Qin Zhiyou replied, "It’s fine. I can eat anytime."

Since he insisted, Lu Weixi didn’t press further and calmly ate the food he fed her, mouthful by mouthful. When she was about seventy percent full, she shook her head. "I’m full."

Qin Zhiyou handed her a tissue to wipe her mouth, tidied up, and then sat to the side to eat the remaining food. He used the same spoon and ate from the exact same dishes without the slightest hesitation about her having used them first.

Once both of them were finished, Qin Zhiyou’s bodyguards arrived. They brought along fresh clothes and some daily necessities. Qin Zhiyou instructed them to tidy up the room and stand guard at the door. When he stepped back inside, Lu Weixi picked up his phone and called her mother.

Only when she heard her daughter’s voice on the other end did Lu’s mother finally let out a sigh of relief. Afraid of stressing her mother, Lu Weixi didn’t share any of the dangerous or harrowing details. She only mentioned that Qin Zhiyou had paid the ransom and the kidnappers had released her. She explained that the shock had caused her to go into premature labor and give birth. The baby was now in an incubator, and she hadn’t had the chance to see her yet.

At this moment, aside from her mother, the child was the person she was most worried about. When she first found out she was pregnant, she hadn’t felt this way. But as more time passed, the visceral connection between mother and child had grown stronger, almost instinctual.

The only reason she wasn’t pushing to see the child now was that she didn’t want Qin Zhiyou to worry about her too much. She could sense that her kidnapping was somehow related to Qin Zhiyou and Hanhai. He was still entangled in too many unresolved matters, and she didn’t want to create additional trouble for him.

But what mother doesn’t long for her child? As she spoke with her mother on the phone, mentioning the baby, her voice became increasingly low and melancholy.
