By this time, anyone in the company who wasn’t blind could see her attending work with her pregnant belly. The office was buzzing with gossip, but since people had offended her during her previous divorce rumors, no one dared to ask whose child it was, nor did they dare to ask whether she and Qin Zhiyou were back together or had split. Regardless, she had solidified her position at the company, and even without any connection to Qin Zhiyou, her business appointments continued without interruption, fully booked until the latter half of the year.

However, being in the architecture and decor industry, fieldwork, which required running around and was too taxing, and exposure to dust and other hazardous conditions could harm the fetus, she hadn’t been taking many new assignments lately. The drafting business she had with Qin Zhigu had already been submitted, awaiting the client’s approval. The remaining few projects in her hands were mostly in a supervisory capacity, delegated to other designers associated with her, or handled by Xiaochen and Xiaoqian. Though her workload had decreased, along with her performance, no one in the company dared to question her status.

She never thought that being pregnant meant she couldn’t go out or work. She still had regular prenatal checkups, the fetus was developing well, and the positioning was good. The doctor even encouraged her to exercise more and not just rest at home every day. So, although she wasn’t doing fieldwork, Lu Weixi still insisted on going to the office, continuing her role in supervision and clerical work.

But recently, she noticed that someone had been following her after work, as if she was being watched. Unfortunately, during this period, Qin Zhiyou was extremely busy with work and not by her side. Although he made sure to video call and phone her every day, she felt a sense of vulnerability, with only her pregnant self and her sick mother at home, creating an uneasy feeling of "it’s less safe without a man in the house."

For instance, today, Lu Weixi wasn’t doing fieldwork and had a strict eight-hour workday regime. As soon as the clock struck at six in the afternoon, she rose from her seat. While everyone else in the office was still working overtime, she had already completed her tasks and was packing up.

Lu Weixi carried herself with grace; after all, they had been discussing her for an entire year—regardless of whether they meant well, ill, or were merely curious, she had grown accustomed to it and was immune to their judgment. Before leaving, she first visited the designers affiliated with her and then returned to Xiaochen, passing on the remaining work, before contentedly departing.

Once she reached the lobby, she used her car’s rearview mirror to look back at the office before confidently driving away. When she reached an intersection and turned, she stopped briefly by the roadside; sure enough, she saw a car leaving the company’s parking lot.

She recognized the vehicle; it belonged to a senior designer who had consistently been her rival. Lu Weixi pressed the gas pedal, and that car gradually caught up with her.

She intentionally led the car around Yan City, circling the third and fourth ring roads, then drove back, with that car consistently following her. Looking around, she found herself near Xue Feifei’s residential area. She simply pulled over to the side of the road and stopped her car. The other car also parked at a moderate distance, seemingly waiting to see if she truly entered the residential area.
