My ‘Healing’ Game -
Chapter 875 Fu Family Ancestral Hall
Chapter 875: Chapter 875 Fu Family Ancestral Hall
Touching the secrets deep within the soul doesn’t necessarily require hands; head and face collisions will suffice too.
Scenes of memory flashed through Han Fei’s brain sea. The monster in the cubicle seemed to be the old man’s own son, and it appeared to have turned into this ghostly form from drinking too much of the "well water".
"Bang!"
Han Fei crashed through the window of the cubicle, his passion like fire, leaving the monster trapped inside unable to withstand it.
His arms seemed like chains, entangling with the ghost item, ignoring its rejection as he leaped into the cubicle.
The narrow cubicle had no floor tiles, and at its center was a dug-up grave.
"A grave in a guest room cubicle? This farmhouse is quite unique."
The greed black fog surged from behind Han Fei, and the monster sensed danger. Its body instantly became shriveled, turning into a puddle of black water that seeped into the grave pit.
"Good lad! Fast runner!"
Squatting by the grave, Han Fei poured the greed black fog into the entrance: "Impermanence! Take Crossing Bird down to have a look!"
Beneath the gravehead was a connection to an underground dark river, with a complicated water network, making it impossible even for Impermanence and Crossing Bird to find the monster.
But they made other discoveries too. Impermanence brought out some soaked and ruined clothes.
"These clothes should belong to the victims. The normal process for the ghost and monster’s killing is to drag people into the cubicle at midnight, then drown them in the dark river beneath the grave. I woke up too early, missing out on the later part of this scene."
Han Fei sorted through the pile of clothes, finding not only the clothes of survivors from outside the village but also the uniforms of nurses from the elderly care home, and work uniforms labeled with the words Eternal Life.
"Does Eternal Life represent Eternal Life Pharmaceutical? Is the Elderly Care Home for Healthy Aging also part of Eternal Life Pharmaceutical’s industry? Why are their clothes appearing here?" Han Fei had never heard of this place in reality, and there were no related records in the police archives.
As Han Fei pondered, Crossing Bird plucked a glass medicine bottle wrapped in layers from the pile of rotten clothes.
Wiping away the grime on the medicine bottle, it contained two photos inside. One photo was taken before the major disaster, showing over thirty young people standing together, seemingly recent university graduates, having spent considerable time finally finding a satisfying job. Their faces beamed with smiles, eyes filled with dreams for the future.
The back of the photo had a time inscribed with a special potion, precisely the day the Perfect Life Game was released.
Then, Han Fei carefully took out the second photo, showing over thirty old people wearing elderly home uniforms standing on the steps, expressions vacant and eyes numb, appearing like zombies.
Upon comparing the two photos, Han Fei realized something horrifying—the contours of the old people’s faces resembled those of the young people; the elders in the second photo seemingly were the young ones in the first photo!
"Something’s not right! The first photo was taken on the day the Perfect Life Game was released, just a few months before the disaster broke out, yet it’s only been just over a decade since the disaster. How could these young people all have become near-century-old elders?"
It seemed the residents at the elderly home might not actually be old; their time was stolen.
"Player number 0000, please take note. You have discovered an F-level mission item—the Rescue Bottle, successfully triggering a Shrine Random Task—Anian."
"Anian (Shrine Random Task): My name is Anian. I am trapped in the same day, time seems like a cage, please help me."
"Task requirement: Enter the security room of the Elderly Care Home for Healthy Aging and find Anian."
The task prompt from the system confirmed Han Fei’s previous speculation: Longevity Village indeed has a strong connection with the Elderly Care Home for Healthy Aging.
Sealing up the entrance on the gravehead, Han Fei exited the guest room. He was now shrouded by ghost creatures, and time in this village flowed differently from outside; an inexplicable strangeness permeated everywhere.
"The elder’s son is buried in the grave; this family must know something."
The kitchen door panel gently swayed, and the basket the daughter-in-law brought during the day was overturned. Inside, a big rat dressed in a pupa stood human-like on the stove, as if learning from the villagers.
"Where is that old couple hiding?"
Re-entering the main hall, Han Fei discovered a coffin in the old couple’s bedroom. Recalling the sound of wood shifting when the old woman opened the door, he was sure that at that time, she was lying in the coffin.
"Why would a living person lie in a place meant for the dead?"
He lifted the coffin lid, inside lay a bright red Shouyi, along with a black-and-white photo of a family of five.
In the photo, the old couple didn’t look that aged, and their son and daughter-in-law hadn’t turned into a monster.
"Player number 0000, please take note! You have discovered a G-level mission item—Shouyi."
"Shouyi: After wearing it, you will have a chance to gain the villagers’ recognition, but you must pay a corresponding price, such as staying in the village forever."
"Is this considered the village’s standard attire?"
Han Fei sat beside the coffin, pulling out the Investigation Bureau’s data on Longevity Village. All messengers sent here would normally send back messages, but very few ever left the village.
Longevity Village seems to possess a peculiar magic, keeping outsiders to stay within the village, making them reluctant to leave.
"Could staying here really allow one to live undying and forever in bliss?"
Han Fei didn’t linger in the house; he suppressed his presence and left the old abode.
The deep night of Longevity Village exuded a strange aura in every corner, yet when Han Fei attempted to approach a specific spot, nothing seemed out of the ordinary.
"With the presence of ghost creatures, there’s got to be hatred hidden here. Where is it hiding? Why can’t any ghost and monsters from the Greed Abyss sense its position?"
Han Fei prepared to head to the village chief’s residence, and halfway there, he suddenly saw a faint light.
A few young men and women dressed in hiking clothes, holding flashlights that flickered on and off, entered the village.
They looked like headless flies, continuously circling around the village, seemingly searching for a way out.
Han Fei followed them for a while, unexpectedly, the group was unusually keen and quickly discovered Han Fei.
"Who’s behind us!"
The flashlight’s beam shone on Han Fei, and the "tourists" seemed frightened like fledgling birds, huddling together anxiously.
"I’m fleeing disaster and stumbled into this village. Everything was fine during the day, but come nightfall, all the villagers disappeared..." Han Fei successfully used his master-level acting to lower the tourists’ guard.
"We entered a week ago, and since night fell, it hasn’t brightened again. We’ve been trapped in the darkness." The only female tourist timidly spoke; she was kind-hearted and felt Han Fei, alone, was somewhat pitiable.
"You’ve been trapped in the darkness and can’t escape?" Han Fei thought of the shrine random task he accepted, where the person named Anian was also trapped on the same day.
"Yes, we walked towards the outside, but the end of every path still leads to this village." The leading man was two meters tall, burly and hefty, with other tourists treating him as their backbone.
"Did you inspect those old houses in the village? Did you find anything unusual?" Han Fei felt something was amiss, wondering how these outsiders could survive for a week amidst the ghostly creatures shrouding Longevity Village and its courtyards. If it wasn’t luck bordering on the impossible, it meant they must be hiding their strength.
His pupils slightly constricted; Han Fei wanted to close the distance and observe further. Yet, as he took a step forward, two male tourists glared at him unhappily, seemingly worried about Han Fei’s intentions.
"We’ve checked all the houses in the village without any findings, but the well outside the village is noteworthy." The leading strongman frowned in thought, "There’s always someone speaking from inside the well, but when we looked over, there was nothing in there."
"The well?" Han Fei was curious, "Can you take me to have a look?"
"Sure." The strongman agreed readily, as they held flashlights to light the way, with Han Fei following behind.
Han Fei couldn’t tell if it was an illusion, but when the tourists turned around, he saw a faint smile on one of their faces.
The well mentioned by the strongman was on the other side of the village, where vegetation grew exceptionally lush, blocking all starlight.
The tourists moved quickly, leading Han Fei deep into the forest, where an old ancestral hall was built, with the well beside it.
"Listen carefully, do you hear voices coming from the well?"
"No, I don’t hear anything." Despite Han Fei’s senses far exceeding a normal person’s, he heard only the sounds of insects.
"Get closer." The tourists crowded around Han Fei, slowly walking outside the ancestral hall, only steps away from the well, "Do you hear it now?"
"Still nothing."
"A little further." The strongman was standing beside Han Fei, and his hand, hidden behind him, quietly pressed on Han Fei’s shoulder.
The tourists’ faces all tensed, waiting for Han Fei to continue forward, but he stopped at that moment, "You weren’t thinking of pushing me into the well, were you?"
He turned and smiled at the tourists, "If you can’t even fool yourselves, how do you hope to do bad things?"
A dazzling saber appeared in Han Fei’s hand, and in a blink, the arm resting on Han Fei’s shoulder fell off.
The wounds on the tourists’ bodies didn’t bleed but instead shed a large amount of dust.
Frightened by the sudden turn of events, they fled in panic. Han Fei would not let them escape, tightly pursuing them.
Returning to the forest depths, those tourists vanished near a large tree.
"Where did they go?"
Han Fei climbed the tree and found several giant human-shaped pupae wrapped in layers of leaves.
"Judging by their size, they are more than enough to envelop a person."
The surface of the giant pupae bore patterns like growth rings, seemingly merging with the tree, absorbing nutrients through the trunk.
"Player number 0000 please note! You have discovered Longevity Pupae, ghost creatures that appear after three mutations, able to simultaneously survive in both the Deep World and reality."
Brandishing the Rebirth Slaughter Saber, Han Fei sliced open the giant pupae, where a humanoid monster with a still-beating heart fell out, resembling one of the male tourists.
"Accomplices to evil, these guys lure live people near the well and then carry out sacrifices."
After leaving the giant pupae, the humanoid monster quickly died. These special "creatures" were mutations from the catastrophe, somewhat similar to the Flower of Resentment Han Fei previously harvested.
Returning alone to the ancestral hall, Han Fei pushed open the heavy doors and saw rows of memorial tablets on the offering table. This ancestral hall worshipped neither ancestors nor divine spirits but a pure black box.
All the ancestors’ memorial tablets surrounded that black box, as if yearning for it to spill something out for them to compete over.
Additionally, Han Fei discovered something: all the people on the tablets shared the Fu surname, the same surname as Eternal Life Pharmaceutical’s founder, Fu Sheng.
"Could this Longevity Village be another test site for Eternal Life Pharmaceutical? Using children’s minds as blank slates to reshape personality and explore infinite possibilities of thought, while testing the limits of life and flesh on the elderly." Han Fei looked at the black box sculpture in the center of the tablets, truly not expecting to see a black box inside Gao Xing’s Memory Shrine.
"Could it be that the Elderly Care Home for Healthy Aging hides the secret of the black box? Did Gao Xing know this secret, allowing him to change his fate from a miserable bottom-tier child into the city’s nightmare?"
The three deceit buildings mentioned in Gao Cheng’s diary are key to this shrine memory world. In the third Eye Hospital, it seemed two children swapped eyes; their last encounter at the Deep Sea Aquarium marked the true divergence of their lives at the Elderly Care Home for Healthy Aging.
