My ‘Healing’ Game
Chapter 852: He Has an Excessive Passion for Work

Chapter 852: Chapter 852: He Has an Excessive Passion for Work

After awakening in the Shrine Memory World, Han Fei took over Gao Cheng’s body, controlling his actions.

In some respects, he and Gao Cheng have many similarities—endless greed, the ambition to slay gods, and hatred for this decaying world—but ultimately, he is not Gao Cheng.

Just like when Han Fei once occupied Fu Yi’s body, in the final moments, Fu Yi still emerged to cause chaos. He never truly trusted Han Fei, merely using Han Fei to ease his relationships with all his lovers, waiting for the right time to enjoy the final results.

Perhaps Gao Cheng had similar plans at the beginning, but during his fusion process with Han Fei, he gradually made completely different choices from Fu Yi.

In Gao Cheng’s eyes, Han Fei could achieve better than himself. To satisfy his ambition and fulfill his ultimate wish, he could completely entrust everything of himself to Han Fei.

Gao Cheng’s hatred for the Divine Spirit was so intense that he was willing to pay any price to destroy it.

Now, awakening the little boy, helping him to see the Mother Ghost one last time, this was Gao Cheng’s final test for Han Fei, as well as his last concern.

This core task of the shrine not only concerns Han Fei’s fate but will also change Gao Cheng’s own destiny.

"I will take you to see your mother and let her tell you her true thoughts in person."

No matter how hard Han Fei tried, he couldn’t awaken the little boy, who remained stuck between the starlight and the abyss, closing himself off.

Letting out a sigh, Han Fei’s will left his brain sea: "No wonder Gao Xing considers Twin Flowers his most important work. Gao Xing and Gao Cheng are twin flowers of entangled fate. Only one flower completely devouring the other can bloom. He wants to recreate that despair in me and Kuangxiao."

In reality, Gao Xing’s initial fate was destined to be devoured by Gao Cheng—his family, happiness, life, even his eyesight—but some changes occurred later, and Gao Xing instead thoroughly devoured Gao Cheng.

"Kuangxiao and I are also twin flowers, but we both seem more easy-going, each wanting to hand over this mess to the other."

Lying in bed, gazing at the city shrouded in darkness outside the window, Han Fei slowly fell asleep.

The healing starlight gently draped over each fierce ghost, the greed abyss gradually calmed down, and even the black water steeped in despair receded slightly.

The next morning, when Han Fei woke up, his mental pollution index had dropped to thirty-nine, which was a relatively safe value for him.

After putting on his clothes, Han Fei tried moving his body a bit. After three days of recovery, he was mostly healed.

After a hearty meal, Han Fei ran to the Disaster Investigation Bureau, holding his "salary card" with a twenty-thousand debt, wanting to take on some tasks related to the Mother Ghost.

"Teacher Gao, aren’t you still undergoing treatment?"

"Humanity is on the verge of extinction, how can I have the mind to lie in bed and recuperate?" Han Fei’s voice was weak, yet there was determination in his words: "It’s a light injury, I’m not going off the front lines. Right now, the Investigation Bureau needs manpower, I can’t waste the Bureau’s resources."

Han Fei’s actions exemplified what it means to have a grand heart and spirit; despite the severe injuries, he still constantly thought of those survivors bullied by ghosts and monsters, specifically requesting to go to the most dangerous Area A.

If not for knowing in advance that he possessed a greed personality, many staff members of the Investigation Bureau would probably think he was a class teacher full of love.

After taking on a task related to Taste Pavilion in Area A, the entire thirteen squad of the investigation team set off.

Riding a motorcycle borrowed from another investigative group, Han Fei approached Area A along a safe route. As he was about to arrive, he locked the motorcycle outside the danger zone.

Even during the daytime, sound and smell might attract the attention of ghosts and monsters; not all ghosts fear light.

"This is my second time coming here."

Looking at the red lanterns hanging in front of Taste Pavilion, Han Fei still remembered his previous embarrassing state: "Times have changed. With six personality awakenings and two hatreds, I can strut through any ordinary Red Mansion."

Han Fei casually pushed open the door to Taste Pavilion as if going to a familiar barbecue stall downstairs of his own home.

"Is anyone there?"

Entering the hall, papermen sat around tables covered in red cloth, the eerie sound of chewing came from all directions.

The hall’s temperature dropped significantly, and surprisingly, Han Fei didn’t feel uncomfortable; instead, he felt at ease, some of the agitation in his heart dissipating.

Walking through the tables of papermen, Han Fei headed straight to the kitchen. If the ghosts of Taste Pavilion didn’t show themselves, he would eat everything in the kitchen.

Skillfully prying open the floorboard, Han Fei called out Envy, letting him enter the underground storeroom of Taste Pavilion to move things: "Boss, if you don’t come out, I’ll empty the place."

After the blood banquet ended, there was nothing too important in the storeroom, just a small amount of ghost blood and various unknown meats, which seemed to be premium sacrificial offerings.

"If it’s not will and soul, it can’t be swallowed into the greed abyss; it can only be used directly here."

Han Fei then summoned Impermanence. This ghost was particularly special; he was the first fierce ghost Gao Cheng obtained, staying loyal and nurturing him from regret to a medium-type resentment, now just one blood sacrifice away from becoming a large-scale grudge.

"These are sacrificial offerings rarely seen outside, feel free to eat, I’ll handle the final blood sacrifice."

Flipping through Gao Cheng’s diary, Impermanence and the Crossing Bird were Gao Cheng’s best friends, as well as those he once trusted the most. For that reason alone, Han Fei wouldn’t abandon them.

With Han Fei’s consent, as soon as Impermanence picked up a sacrificial offering, the kitchen’s temperature dropped again, and those papermen outside all turned their heads towards Han Fei in unison.

"What are you looking at? Never seen a dine and dash before?" Han Fei took out the Rebirth Slaughter Saber: "Get your boss out here, or I’ll tear down this Red Mansion."

Thirty years east, thirty years west. To Han Fei, thirty years was too long; three days were enough to change many things.

The creepy creaking sound echoed from the second floor, a wooden door was pushed open, and a family of seven emerged from the most luxurious private room, the elderly man in front being the boss of Taste Pavilion.

"I really didn’t expect you all to end up like this." Han Fei had once seen this family on television in reality. Generations of their family had been devoted to culinary arts, excelling in various cuisines. Unexpectedly, after the great disaster, they became ghosts and still stayed at Taste Pavilion to cook for other ghosts.

"I have no intention of clashing with you." Han Fei said calmly, tossing the Coin of Destiny as he held the Rebirth Slaughter Saber. The Greed Abyss quietly appeared behind him, and the aura of Hatred spread unrestrainedly in the hall: "I was here last time, you should still remember."

Demonstrating strength was to avoid conflict. When Han Fei truly intended to kill, he never drew the saber ahead of time.

"I am the child of the Mother Ghost, I would like to see her again."

A living person claiming to be the child of the Mother Ghost left the owner of the Taste Pavilion unsure how to respond to Han Fei’s statement. The Mother Ghost was the most unique Hatred in Area A, and no one wanted to offend her, nor did they want to get too entangled with her.

"The Taste Pavilion is a place you want to protect, and I also have things I want to protect. If you don’t speak, I’ll have to forcibly make you tell me." The black mist of Greed began to spread as the principal opened his eyes in the Abyss.

After a brief standoff, the old man waved to the smallest child beside him and lifted the child’s shirt.

On that child’s back were various dish names and taboo precautions. The words engraved in the depths of the ghosts were essentially a kind of Curse, extremely terrifying.

"Is this a menu specially tailored for the Mother Ghost?" Han Fei discovered that all the dishes had to include a negative human emotion—Regret: "Who did such a cruel thing, engraving a menu on the back of your descendants?"

The old man pointed above his head, not daring to utter a word. He didn’t tell Han Fei anything related to the Mother Ghost, just patted the Little Ghost’s head.

The child, understanding, led Han Fei to the third floor reserved for the Mother Ghost. He crawled under the dining table where she often sat, taking out a severely damaged small night light from beneath the tablecloth.

The Mother Ghost seemed to know Han Fei would come to her again, so she hid this item in the Taste Pavilion after their last meeting.

"Should I turn it on?" Han Fei prepared to try lighting the lamp, the Little Ghost waved his hands repeatedly, then led Han Fei to the window, pointing at a few buildings deep in Area A, and then at the cloud-filled sky.

"You’re suggesting I go to those buildings to turn on the lights after dark?" At the Disaster Investigation Bureau, Han Fei had reviewed many investigation records, and the buildings the Little Ghost pointed at were related to parent-child education and welfare projects. They weren’t inherently very dangerous, acting as buffer zones between the major Black Buildings in Area A.

The Little Ghost nodded vigorously, a bit afraid of Han Fei.

"Then I’ll trust you this once."

Returning to the first floor, Han Fei withdrew Impermanence back into the Greed Abyss: "I won’t take these ingredients for nothing. I’ll do my best to safeguard your family’s lives in the future, provided you haven’t deceived me."

Leaving the Taste Pavilion, Han Fei arrived at the Welfare Home in the neighboring block. In the empty courtyard, various toys moved on their own, and the cartoon murals on the walls blinked their eyes. Despite their seemingly cute artistic style, they only gave off an eerie feeling.

"Beyond the Taste Pavilion is the core area of Area A."

Area A was the most dangerous among the districts of Xinhu, with five confirmed Black Buildings and numerous Deceit Buildings and Forbidden Buildings.

"The Investigation Bureau’s main investigation area is District C, Area A is completely occupied by Ghosts and Monsters. If something happens to me, I won’t receive any support."

Keeping his aura in check, Han Fei donned a Black Duckbill Hat. As he approached the Welfare Home, he immediately noticed some anomalies.

Half-eaten food was strewn in the courtyard, and unfinished bagged nutrition drinks were left behind.

"The nutrition drinks haven’t coagulated, and the food is quite fresh, someone has been here within the last half hour?"

Survivors in the city wouldn’t waste food at all. The expensive nutrition drinks weren’t something ordinary disaster victims could afford.

Having assisted the police in solving various cases and mastered anti-detection and body disposal techniques, Han Fei possessed Insight Ability far superior to ordinary people. He silently snuck into the Welfare Home alongside the walls, finding numerous traces of human activity there.

"The Ghosts and Monsters didn’t seem to affect them at all, are these individuals strong enough to crush most Ghosts? Or are they, like the principal, followers of the Ghosts and Monsters?"

Tracking all the way, Han Fei reached the multifunctional activity room on the second floor of the Welfare Home, overhearing several unfamiliar voices through the door panel.

"In nineteen days, it will be the Day of God’s Birth, have you thought about what gifts to prepare for the Divine Spirit?"

"It has what you lack; it wants what you simply can’t give."

"Still, we should gift something. Why not turn Hope New City upside down? Conduct a grand Living Sacrifice to celebrate the birth of the Divine Spirit."

"The other companions won’t agree; they still want to turn Hope New City into their own Killing Paradise."

Peering through the door gap, Han Fei saw three men in uniform standing inside the activity room, with two horribly tortured bodies at their feet.

"Not the Disaster Investigation Bureau’s clothing..."

Han Fei had seen similar images in the Investigation Bureau’s records, which seemed to be the exclusive uniform of high-contribution citizens of Hope New City.

"Why do these three look so familiar?"

Staring for a long time, Han Fei finally recalled them using his extraordinary memory; he had seen them in the archives of a real police department!

When God Stealer Kuangxiao entered the Shrine, many criminals from the Skyscraper followed. These three, like Ma Jing, were insane serial killers with Ghost Cards!

"The Divine Spirit gave them special benefits, granting them all Personality Awakening. These guys seem to have done quite well in Hope New City."

Many deranged serial killers are extremely adept at hiding, coupled with their lack of guilt or shame, allowing them to dissect victims at night and chat happily with victims’ families by day. Thus, it’s not surprising that the people in Hope New City failed to detect their twisted nature.

"Even the Divine Spirit needs birthday gifts, especially a god who lacked Love from a young age." Among the three, the oldest-looking man spoke: "We can’t give the Divine Spirit what it wants, but we can find other ways to make it happy, such as torturing those the Divine Spirit hates or helping it gain its mother’s approval."

"Brother Chou, do you have a plan already?"

"My Personality Power includes a strong sense of possession. I want to possess that Ghost’s Soul and Love the Divine Spirit on her behalf."

The three in the room were all real-world perverts, so it didn’t shock Han Fei that they would have such thoughts.
