Chapter 766: Chapter 766: The heavy rain keeps falling, and my heart is filled with fear
"Blood?"
The Vulture looked at his own fingers. That fishy, sticky sensation was all too familiar to him, yet he couldn’t understand why the mirror was oozing fresh blood.
His Adam’s apple bobbed. The Vulture, dazed, lifted his head. The vast workshop underground seemed to be enveloped by some force, and it felt as though an entire sea was suspended above him, pressing down to the extreme.
"I have never encountered such a situation before. What’s wrong with this mirror?"
Feeling panic and unease, but knowing the ritual had to continue, the Vulture gently nudged his mask, his gaze wandering between the mirror and Han Fei.
The raincoat-clad Han Fei and the Han Fei in the mirror were clearly the same person, but they exuded two distinct auras. The ritual hadn’t even officially started, yet there was already a problem.
Stepping back, the Vulture thought about the task Crow had entrusted to him, and, with great reluctance, he prompted Han Fei to lift his hand and touch the mirror.
"To become one of our core members, you must pass such a test."
"Now that death has bloomed, you will be the most beautiful of flowers. When Xinhu turns into a sea of flowers, you will be reborn in the new world."
"I send you across the bridge."
The words the Vulture spoke seemed to trigger the mirror; with each word he uttered, the seemingly ordinary surface of the mirror transformed, and the heavy presence of Death Intent slowly emerged within it. Drops of blood inexplicably started to fall from the top of the mirror.
After he said the words "I send you across the bridge," Han Fei in the mirror lifted his head. It seemed as if it wanted to grasp Han Fei’s hand, preventing him from leaving.
As the Death Intent intensified, the Vulture kept his eyes fixed on the mirror; what came next was the most dangerous moment. This special mirror would reflect all the people Han Fei had killed. If the Han Fei in the mirror could merge with all of the wronged dead, he would successfully rise to become a new core member.
For some reason, the Vulture was so nervous he dared not speak. His gaze stayed glued to the mirror, and in that deep darkness, suddenly, the innocent laughter of children could be heard.
"Smack!"
A small handprint appeared on the mirror’s surface, and inside it, a little boy of only a few years old emerged. Dressed in clothes from the Welfare Home, he stood within the mirror, curiously peering out.
"It’s happening!" the Vulture’s heart skipped a beat: "The first person he killed was a child..."
The boy seemed unaware of his own death, wandering back and forth in the mirror, until a second, a third, a fourth child appeared...
Watching the mirror, the Vulture found it impossible to breathe. In his view, he was a complete psychopath, but as he stared at the thirty children filling the mirror, as he looked at their pure and innocent faces, he felt a fear coming from deep within his heart.
"Thirty children from the Orphanage? Is this just the beginning?"
The Death Intent was still gathering in the mirror! The storm outside the workshop seemed to tear off the roof, plummeting directly underground. The Vulture felt as though he was being pulled into the storm.
His fingers shook uncontrollably, but the ritual had to go on.
Normally, the Vulture would wait for all the victims to appear before moving to the next step, but he couldn’t wait any longer. The mirror, occupying an entire wall, was already filled to the brim!
His chest heaving, the Vulture suppressed the unrest within him and, as the proxy for the mirror, asked Han Fei, "To cross to the other side of the bridge, you are bound to lose something. Are you truly prepared? Are you willing to lose happiness and never be able to smile again?"
Thunder roared as if exploding beside his ear. Han Fei, standing before the mirror, remained silent, barely nodding his head.
The instant he agreed, the thirty murdered children in the mirror all lost their innocent smiles. Their eyes were filled with numbness and despair. Their little hands slapped against the mirror as if questioning Han Fei’s choice!
The Vulture averted his gaze. He could not bear to look. Now, all he wanted was to end this quickly and leave: "Are you willing to be dominated by fury and receive the blessing of gods?"
Once again, Han Fei nodded. Cracks began to appear in the corner of the mirror, a decrepit well appeared within it—an ancient well filled with desire and a tree adorned with human heads growing from it, with a shrine engraved with the scales of souls hidden beneath it.
"What is that? Who has he actually killed?" The Vulture was startled as the event took a turn beyond his understanding, but more terrifying things were yet to come.
"Are you willing to embrace death, chase after death, and spread death?"
The Vulture continued to ask, according to the ritual; before Han Fei could answer, the thirty murdered children in the mirror began to undergo a transformation.
Monsters began to sprout from their purest souls, each radiating an astonishing resentment!
Beyond those children, more and more beings beyond the Vulture’s comprehension appeared: a teacher with three mouths on her face, a madman with an insect cocoon stuffed in his heart, a butcher with the face of a pig...
The mirror could not contain these entities; the people and souls killed by Han Fei were too numerous, far exceeding the limits the mirror could bear.
Cracks spread from the corner to the center, and the Han Fei in the middle of the mirror seemed to be a vortex of Death Intent!
All the souls killed by Han Fei rushed towards him, and he just stood there in the mirror, letting them gnaw at him.
The Vulture was horrified by how smoothly Han Fei had handled the previous questions and, eager to end the ritual quickly, he didn’t wait for the souls to completely merge with Han Fei before he asked the last question.
"Are you willing to accept and become your true self?"
The Guinea Pig had once asked Bu Kaixin these questions; it was the process of the ritual—to see death, merge with death, spread death, and in the end, become death.
The Vulture had made no mistake in the steps, but just as he posed the last question, all the noise in the workshop underground vanished.
The crying abruptly stopped, the screaming suddenly dispersed, and the resentment and Death Intent were pushed to a corner. Han Fei outside the mirror stood bowing his head, completely still; yet, the Han Fei inside the mirror started to tremble slightly, and beneath that mask came a person’s laughter.
At first, the laughter was normal, but as the ritual progressed, it became increasingly hysterical, ultimately turning into uncontrollable mad laughter!
The thing that had always been hidden in Han Fei’s mind was awakened by the Murder Club’s ritual!
The thirty dead children desperately hit the mirror surface, trying to leave, while all the souls killed by Han Fei continuously collided with Death Intent, causing more and more cracks to appear on the mirror.
Maniacal laughter rose amidst the thunder and torrential rain; the Han Fei standing inside the mirror slowly removed his mask, staring at the Han Fei outside. He grasped Han Fei’s arm and asked with a voice that was sickly to its extreme.
"Do you wish to become me?"
The fine cracks spread instantly across the mirror’s surface, and the mirror that occupied the entire wall shattered in an instant!
Amidst the scattered fragments, numerous reflections of Han Fei cackled, and the sounds of lunatic laughter echoed continuously beneath the workshop.
"Impossible, the mirror from Shouxi Mirror Factory is the oldest in the Murder Club, and it’s also the mirror that has witnessed the most successful promotions of core members. This mirror is the largest and most unique—how could it possibly shatter?!" Vulture kept retreating; he was a high-level member of the Murder Club. Although young, he had followed Crow for a long time and knew many secrets. However, it was exactly because he knew that he found it all the more unbelievable.
"Is that thing from my mind starting to appear in reality?" Han Fei stood amid the debris, slowly raising his head, recalling the entire process of the ritual.
Every step was the same as what Bu Kaixin had once experienced, yet every step was different from his experiences back then.
"Does this count as a failure to advance?" Han Fei turned to look at Vulture, step by step he moved toward him: "You seem to have just seen my face."
"No, I didn’t!" Vulture had lost every bit of his twisted demeanor and now looked extremely normal, his hands frantically waving as he fell prostrate on the ground: "It was disrespectful of me earlier since there were many people outside. Shall I kneel for you now?"
"I ask you, did you see my face or not?" Han Fei slowly moved, his hand stretching out from beneath the raincoat and clutched Vulture’s neck.
From their builds, Vulture seemed to be about the same size as Han Fei, but Han Fei gave Vulture a feeling that he was completely unable to resist, as if there were thirty weeping dead souls following behind him.
"I didn’t see anything!" Vulture’s mask fell to the ground, revealing a somewhat handsome face: "Don’t kill me, give me a chance!"
"A chance?" Han Fei’s fingers slowly relaxed: "How long have you been with the Murder Club? Do you recognize those core members?"
"Four years; I was among the earliest to join! I’m very familiar with Crow, he lets me call him ’big brother’ in private."
"There was a Murder Club four years ago?" Han Fei gestured for Vulture to put his mask back on: "I can spare you, but you need to help me with some things."
"I’ll do whatever you say." A glint of deep-seated malice flashed in Vulture’s eyes: "Shall I take you out of here?"
"You’re coming with me." Han Fei grabbed Vulture’s arms, bending them forcefully backwards.
A scream of agony suddenly filled the air; Vulture, in pain, collapsed once more to the ground: "Didn’t you say you wouldn’t kill me? I really didn’t see what you look like! Please let me go!"
"I told you to come with me, so just leaving your legs will do. Keep talking nonsense, and I will tear your mouth open." Han Fei stood on the fragments of mirror, the images of the mirror’s victims rising again in Vulture’s mind, and he immediately clamped his mouth shut.
His legs shook slightly. It was the first time that Vulture, a high-level member of the Murder Club, felt such fear.
The dilapidated mechanical elevator ascended, and Green Crab and Dwarf had long been waiting at the elevator door. They had heard the noises coming from below the workshop and were very curious.
"Was the promotion successful?" Dwarf looked at Han Fei, "I haven’t received any notifications from the core members on my end, what happened just now?"
Han Fei didn’t answer Dwarf’s question but casually countered with a question of his own, "You two are high-level members of the Murder Club, aren’t you? How much blood debt have you accumulated on your hands?"
"I killed everyone who looked down on me, but then I couldn’t stop myself—it’s very addictive! So I started killing those who pitied me!" Dwarf was very frail, yet he chose the fierce tiger mask, and his laugh was unpleasant to hear.
Compared to Dwarf, Green Crab seemed more cunning, as he simply remarked, "I like to eat entrails, fresh entrails."
"It seems there isn’t a single good thing about your Murder Club," Han Fei walked over to Green Crab and Dwarf, "To be even the slightest bit lenient with you would be disrespectful to the deceased."
Before he had finished speaking, Han Fei’s whip kick had already struck Green Crab’s chest, and without waiting for Dwarf to reach for anything, he kicked again.
The mechanical roar masked the screams of agony; Vulture, watching Han Fei repair his companion, could not help the cold sweat flow down, that man was like a capricious tyrant, dealing death without any reason.
Recalling the countless corpses in the mirrors, Vulture felt a chill sweep through his entire body. He had provoked the most terrifying monster!
Turning his head towards the raging storm outside the window, Vulture felt as if the large raindrops were all falling onto his heart, causing it to tremble uncontrollably.
"What do I do? Where is he planning to take me next? He definitely won’t let me off! I need to find a chance to escape, even turning myself in will do."
The heavy rain continued, and he was terrified inside.
After ensuring Green Crab and Dwarf were completely incapacitated, Han Fei stopped for a moment in front of the meat grinder, frightening the three men to the point they hardly dared to breathe too heavily.
"Let’s go, I’ll take you to a place," Han Fei led Vulture away from Shouxi Mirror Factory, riding a rented motorcycle, heading towards Jin Jun’s home.
He planned to find a way to pull Vulture into the Deep World and, after completing the memory reshaping surgery on him, have Vulture temporarily become his assistant. Vulture was just the first step, Han Fei’s real target was Crow.
...
At 11:30 pm, a strange noise emanated from an abandoned building in Xinhu North Suburb, as a door secured with five layers of password locks was forcefully pushed open. A man wearing a Guinea Pig mask furiously threw an encrypted cell phone onto the long table.
"Vulture, Green Crab, Tiger, three senior members of the club have all disappeared from the Shouxi Mirror Factory! Crow, you’ve been too careless."
The man at the other end of the table, wearing a Crow mask, propped his legs up on the table, "So what?"
"The mirror in the basement of the Shouxi Mirror Factory was shattered; the promotion ritual wasn’t successful, but it wasn’t a failure either."
"Shattered?" Crow stood up from the chair, incredulously looking at Guinea Pig, "How is that possible?"
"The mirror seemed to have exploded due to pressure," asserted Guinea Pig confidently, "It was burst by the Dead Souls of those he had killed."
