Chapter 580: I Look Through His Resume
Chapter 580: Chapter 580: I Look Through His Resume
"Let’s go, don’t stay here any longer." Zhang Zhuangzhuang grabbed Han Fei’s arm and pulled him behind a few medical staff members.
Everything around seemed normal, just like any ordinary hospital, but Zhang Zhuangzhuang was as tense as if facing a great enemy, with cold sweat streaming down his forehead.
"Don’t look around, if you see something you shouldn’t, you won’t be able to leave even if you want to." Zhang Zhuangzhuang lowered his head, his voice squeezing through his clenched teeth.
Deciding that it was better not to make a fuss, Han Fei didn’t do anything out of the ordinary and followed the medical staff away from Building 4.
The medical staff walked ahead, heads lowered, not even looking at the path. They turned at the corners automatically, heading back to their respective wards, leaving only Han Fei and Zhang Zhuangzhuang to return to Building 1.
The temperature slowly rose again, and Zhang Zhuangzhuang let out a long sigh of relief; his back was drenched in cold sweat, sticking to his skin.
"Is it really that terrifying?" Han Fei moved closer to Zhang Zhuangzhuang, "Did something happen in those few buildings? What exactly are you afraid of?"
"Don’t ask."
"Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone." Han Fei stopped Zhang Zhuangzhuang, determined to find out the answer. Even if everyone’s fear was different, Zhang Zhuangzhuang’s experiences could provide him with a reference.
"I advise you to resign as quickly as possible. The more you know, the deeper you’ll be trapped. I’m not telling you for your own good." On Zhang Zhuangzhuang’s face, which did not match his age, there seemed to be even more wrinkles: "If you can escape, do it quickly, or you’ll definitely regret it."
"I don’t have much time left, so I won’t beat around the bush with you." Han Fei was resolute, "Tell me what you know, I can help you. If you persist in not telling me, we might both become obstacles to each other’s path forward."
"Obstacle?" Zhang Zhuangzhuang took another good look at Han Fei, "Actually, it’s not that I deliberately want to keep it a secret; I’ve also forgotten a lot of things myself..."
"You’ve forgotten too?" Han Fei frowned.
"I’ve been to other wards in the hospital before, but now those memories are gone. All I have left in my mind is the fear of those wards, as if a voice is telling me that if I don’t leave quickly, I’ll be tortured to death in the most cruel way." Zhang Zhuangzhuang’s voice grew lower and lower: "There are many places in this hospital you can’t go to, many things you can’t see. If you accidentally see them, you’ll end up like me, forgetting something very important."
"You don’t remember anything you saw?"
"I only remember that chilling feeling." Zhang Zhuangzhuang gnashed his teeth, his expression serious: "While you are still your complete self, resign quickly. Once you start forgetting, it will be very hard to escape. Or rather, even if you do escape, you’ll end up coming back for various reasons later."
Seeing no one passing by, Zhang Zhuangzhuang shared another secret with Han Fei, "My sister is a doctor here. I once received a call from her in the middle of the night. It seemed like she was hiding in a corner, her voice full of panic and fear. She begged me on the phone to take her away. But when I came to the hospital and found her, she had forgotten everything she said on the phone and thought I was making no sense."
"Is that the reason you stayed?"
"At first, I wanted to take her away, but now I can’t even escape myself. Every time I wake up, I age more. It’s like something is living inside me, stealing my youth." Zhang Zhuangzhuang touched the wrinkles on his face: "Only by returning to the hospital does the speed of my aging slow down. That’s also why I keep reminding you to leave quickly. Once that thing gets inside you, it’ll be too late to run."
"So, leaving the Plastic Surgery Hospital speeds up aging?" Han Fei nodded, "Then I’m even less afraid."
"Why aren’t you afraid?" Zhang Zhuangzhuang thought this would scare Han Fei away, but Han Fei seemed completely indifferent.
"My life is already on a countdown." Han Fei pulled out a folded medical diagnosis from his pants pocket and handed it to Zhang Zhuangzhuang.
After a perplexed glance, Zhang Zhuangzhuang looked at Han Fei with changed eyes: "I’m sorry."
"No need to apologize, actually my reason for coming here is similar to yours." Han Fei pointed towards the depths of the hospital, "I have a friend who also works here as a doctor, his surname is Yan."
Han Fei adapted Zhang Zhuangzhuang’s experiences to his own situation, changing the main character from the sister to Doctor Yan.
Soon, under the influence of Master-level Acting, Han Fei created a noble image of himself as someone with a terminal illness, still risking his life to save an old friend.
"Player number 0000, please note! Nurse Zhang Zhuangzhuang’s friendliness increased by three!"
Zhang Zhuangzhuang’s tone of speaking to Han Fei had obviously improved a lot, and the trust between them was slowly being established.
"Since our goals are similar, I won’t hide anything from you anymore." Zhang Zhuangzhuang signaled for Han Fei to follow him. As they moved, he discreetly turned off their walkie-talkies: "The hospital is completely different during the day and at night. I’ve also figured out some rules that I hope will help you."
The two walked side by side, whispering softly.
"First, Building 1 is safe during the day, and at night, only the Safe House is safe throughout the hospital."
"Second, doctors save people during the day, but at night, they kill."
"Third, not all patients are good; some of them used to be doctors."
"Fourth, the night Security Guard and receptionist died many years ago. You can approach them when they’re smiling, but if they cry, you must run immediately."
"Fifth, in the Plastic Surgery Hospital, everyone is pursuing the limit of beauty. The more beautiful a person or thing is, the more dangerous it is, but that doesn’t mean that ugly things are not dangerous."
"Sixth, there are seven buildings in the hospital, but the doctors talk about an eighth building."
"Seventh, every time a disappearance case explodes in the city, there will always be one more critically ill patient in the hospital."
"Eighth, improving the nurses’ favor can save you a lot of trouble."
"Ninth, there are three types of ghosts hidden in the hospital. The red ghosts kill on sight; you can only try to escape. White ghosts are smarter than humans; they consume something from within you. Black ghosts are the most mysterious; every time you see one, you lose some memories."
"Tenth, no matter day or night, there are always a pair of eyes watching over the hospital."
"Eleventh, don’t trust anyone easily. Even the ten rules I’ve told you might be what someone else wants you to see."
Zhang Zhuangzhuang led Han Fei back to the "Safe House." He opened his locker, took out a small mirror, and handed it to Han Fei, "Take a good look at your face whenever you get a chance. If you start aging, that means something has latched onto you."
"No need, I like to carry a mirror with me." Han Fei trusted the Blood-colored Paperman more than the mirror. As the world kept mutating, the power the Blood-colored Paperman could exert also continued to grow stronger.
"I’m off to take care of my patient, good luck." With the radio back on, Zhang Zhuangzhuang left the room.
After closing the door of the Safe House, Han Fei sat down in a chair and made a note of everything Zhang Zhuangzhuang had said in his mind.
"Zhang Zhuangzhuang and Cao Lingling both mentioned the three colored ghosts. What do they each represent?" Keeping the Blood-colored Paperman close to him, Han Fei now felt a sense of safety that had been long absent, but his heart also began to beat faster because of it. "I wonder whether that dining table, which only seats ten people, could fit an eleventh person. Xu Qin’s specialty is meat after all."
Turning on the radio that Zhang Zhuangzhuang had turned off, Han Fei had not yet reacted when a fat nurse’s voice came through, "Fu Yi! How could you leave a client alone in the lobby!"
"I went to help move a patient."
"Come to VIP room number four on the fourth floor immediately!" The fat nurse actually took good care of Han Fei, not making him do any hard work.
Remembering Love’s appearance, Han Fei’s expression turned a bit bitter. He was not too keen on leaving the Safe House as he took the employee elevator to the fourth floor.
Walking through the opulent corridor, Han Fei stopped in the middle of the fourth-floor lobby. Love was sitting on a sofa with her eyes closed, gathering her strength, while Qiangwei’s female assistant and the other female player sat opposite her.
Not knowing what had happened between them, Love chose VIP beauty care room number four on the fourth floor, while Qiangwei’s female assistant chose the room next door, number three.
As Han Fei approached, Love hadn’t reacted much, but the female player who came with Qiangwei’s assistant suddenly walked towards Han Fei.
Frowning slightly, Han Fei was about to dodge when the outgoing and cheerful female player suddenly grabbed his hand.
From a distance, Love opened her eyes, but the female player had an indifferent expression. She wasn’t tall, seemed to have maxed out her green tea attribute points, and deliberately moved forward. When the distance was already very close, she looked up at Han Fei with a flirty expression in her eyes, her body weak and limp as if she had no strength.
"Don’t make trouble for me." Han Fei’s face wore the gentlest of smiles, but his voice contained a chilling ruthlessness. The female player did not know what Han Fei had been through in this hidden map, let alone how much psychological trauma he felt towards Love and desire.
"We just received another message from Qiangwei." The female player kept moving closer to Han Fei, seemingly unable to stand firm. She leaned in close and whispered, "He told us that Achong has been captured too and said that players confined here will gradually forget the past. He asked us to contact you as soon as possible."
The female player appeared to be examining Han Fei’s face carefully; she wrapped her hand around his neck and suddenly plucked a hair from his head.
As murderous intent flashed in Han Fei’s eyes, she laughed and backed away, calling out to Qiangwei’s assistant while leaving, "This nurse is quite interesting, let’s have him serve us next time, shall we?"
"As you wish."
"Please come in," said the black-clad manager, worried about more conflict between the two players and Love, and quickly ushered them into VIP room number three with a smile.
"Please wait a moment; I will call the doctor over immediately. They will create an exclusive beauty treatment plan for you. Also, regarding the choice of nurses, how is your selection going?" The manager brought out many files, including the resume Han Fei had submitted earlier, which had his photo attached.
"Let’s keep them all; we can choose at leisure," the female player took all the nurse’s information, sent the manager away, and then turned to glance at Han Fei standing in the lobby before she locked the door of the VIP room.
The moment the door closed, all the warmth and joviality disappeared from her face, "I’ve already told Han Fei the news, and I’ve got his hair as well. I’m actually curious to see what kind of ability he has to be so highly regarded by boss Qiangwei."
"Your Talent Ability can only be used three times a day, and there’s still a chance it might fail. I think it’s better if you don’t use it carelessly," Qiangwei’s female assistant was still quite rational. She took out her phone, looked at the information on it, and her expression grew more solemn.
"No worries." The female player walked over to the window, drew the thick curtains, and then took out a few cards from the bag she carried with her.
Kneeling in front of the cards, the female player cut her wrist, allowing her blood to drip and soak into the cards. Then, she placed Han Fei’s resume on top of them.
"Psychic!"
She pulled out a strand of her own long hair and twined it around Han Fei’s hair, slowly closing her eyes.
The room was silent, the light twisted slowly, and darkness crept in around them.
The blood imprinted the designs from the cards onto Han Fei’s resume. The twined hairs of the woman and Han Fei seemed to be blown by the wind, trembling in the blood.
The woman’s expression slowly turned to one of agony as she murmured strange phrases.
When she opened her eyes again, only the whites were visible. Her expression was terrifying, as if the person who had opened her eyes was no longer herself.
Her stiff arms slowly let go, and she grabbed the blood-stained resume, flipping it open.
The moment she saw the design on the first page, the female player’s face contorted, her arms trembling uncontrollably as her slit wrist began to bleed profusely.
"What’s wrong?" Qiangwei’s assistant rose and approached, having witnessed the use of the Talent Ability before, but such an occurrence had never happened!
The resume stained red oozed with viscous blood, and the female player’s eyes, filled with only whites, rotated wildly. She frantically flipped through the resume, then suddenly let out a horrific scream!
Her eyes stabbed with pain, began to bleed. The female player desperately threw the resume in her hand as if it were a red-hot branding iron.
The images on the cards vanished, and the hair entwined with Han Fei’s snapped apart. The female player collapsed to the ground, clutching her head and eyes in pain.
"Lingjie!" Qiangwei’s assistant hurried to embrace the female player, loudly calling out her name.
It was a while before the female player opened her eyes. She clutched tightly at her assistant’s clothes, her eyes full of terror.
"The moment I flipped open his resume, the whole thing was filled with just two words—dead man!"
