Chapter 563: Chapter 563 Actually, There is One Thing

Leaving the Lower District, Han Fei looked up at the overpass, the sky segmented into pieces by the rapidly developing city, skyscrapers rising from the ground, and people becoming ever more insignificant.

"Nineteen hours have passed for the life debt mission, and I still have more than two days left," he said.

Turning his gaze away, Han Fei took out his phone to browse through all the contact records left by Fu Yi.

The main number was spotlessly clean; many of his business friends had ceased contact with him after he was transferred from the "Eternal Life" game.

On the secondary number, however, there were people constantly sending him messages, some full of various insinuations, some explicit, even including photos of extreme lewdness.

"Aside from those few subordinates, Fu Yi is left with only a bunch of unreliable fair-weather friends," he mused.

Checking the phone’s battery, Han Fei quietly put it away.

It was now noon, and he didn’t want to go home, unsure how to face his wife or how to explain these issues.

Standing under the overpass for a long while, he suddenly felt dizzy again.

"The pain is getting more intense," he said and, after a moment, decided to leave, as his hunger also began to drop continually.

Walking far down the street, Han Fei unconsciously moved toward his home.

Passing through the familiar alley, his residential complex was not far away, but he didn’t want to go there just yet.

"I should eat something first."

Exiting the alley, Han Fei found a small restaurant and instinctively sat in the most secluded spot.

"A serving of tomato sauce noodles," he ordered.

After ordering, Han Fei prepared to rest with his eyes closed, but the only television in the restaurant began broadcasting a familiar voice.

"He’s a scumbag!"

"Don’t let him go! He’s the one who abandoned his child!"

The sharp female voice entered Han Fei’s ears, and he immediately opened his eyes.

The television was showing the drama that had unfolded at the company gate that morning, with reporters broadcasting without fully understanding the situation, and many passerby had recorded the scene.

"It’s being broadcasted on television too?"

While the diners were engrossed in watching the TV, Han Fei’s gaze slowly shifted to the greasy table.

The continuous stress made his brain feel as if it were being torn apart; he was only substituting for Fu Yi’s identity, yet it seemed like the world wanted to forcibly integrate all of Fu Yi’s despair into his mind.

His sinuses swelled painfully, his brain throbbing violently, and Han Fei reached up to grasp his hair tightly.

The reporter was filming from within the crowd, the scolding and insults as if ringing in his ear, and like waves rushing toward Han Fei.

"Your noodles are ready, watch out, it’s hot!" a somewhat immature voice said, followed by a pair of fair hands placing a bowl of noodles in front of Han Fei.

Looking up along those slender arms, surprise flickered in Han Fei’s eyes.

The woman in the waiter’s uniform in front of him was the same female netizen he had sent to the hospital a few days ago. She still seemed to like warm colors, and even though she had to wear the uniform for work, she was wearing her usual skirt and had pinned a cute hair clip on her head.

"Why are you here?" Han Fei asked the female netizen, who had just come of age, her parents having died early, leaving her to live with relatives until deceived by Fu Yi.

She had escaped her home desperately, but Fu Yi had no intention of taking responsibility for her.

"You’ve taught me many things in the most shameless and despicable way, like how people should learn to be independent and not to stake their future on someone else’s conscience. After leaving the hospital, I had nowhere to go, and then I found this small restaurant near your place hiring waitresses, so I thought I’d give it a shot and got hired immediately," the female netizen said as she set down the bowl and prepared to leave. However, turning to leave, she added, "Don’t worry about the food. If something goes wrong with you here, it’s going to affect the restaurant that hired me. I’m not like some people who are so ungrateful."

A while ago when the female netizen fainted in the rain, it was Han Fei who had taken her to the hospital, not only paying her medical bills but also leaving her some living expenses.

After finishing, she walked toward the counter, picked up the remote, and changed the channel.

As she was about to enter the kitchen, a loud "bang" suddenly rang out.

Turning back in surprise, she saw Han Fei collapsed on the table, blood seeping from his mouth and nose.

"Fu Yi? I... I didn’t put anything in the noodles!" she exclaimed.

The female netizen and the Boss were terrified, and they hurriedly called for an ambulance.

This time it was the female netizen who helped Han Fei onto the ambulance, accompanying him to the hospital.

Hearing various sounds around his ears, Han Fei could no longer distinguish those things. He could only hear the female netizen’s cries as it felt like a huge stone had been stuffed into his brain.

The stone, not belonging to his body, pressed against all his nerves and blood vessels, devouring his Soul.

Moreover, it seemed that the stone bore a face similar to Fu Yi’s, constantly speaking and emitting terrifying laughter, mocking everything Han Fei had done.

Under the Doctor’s treatment, Han Fei regained consciousness. When he opened his eyes, the first thing he heard was the system’s notification.

"Player No.0000, please note, you have successfully reduced the Hatred by three points."

Looking to the side, the female netizen was staring at Han Fei with complicated eyes.

"What’s the matter?" Han Fei sat up. "Did the Doctor say what illness I have?"

The female netizen didn’t meet Han Fei’s eyes, fiddling with her fingers and said hesitantly, "The Doctor said you’re under too much stress and need to rest well."

If it were merely a minor illness, even if Han Fei had saved the female netizen before, the foundational goodwill wouldn’t have reduced her Hatred by three points so suddenly.

Looking into the female netizen’s eyes, the girl, barely an adult, was like a blank canvas in front of Han Fei, with no Acting to speak of.

"You don’t have to say anything; I understand. Give me the diagnosis," Han Fei said.

After hesitating for a moment, the female netizen slowly took out the folded medical record from her pocket.

He reached out to take it and after reading, Han Fei’s expression did not change at all.

"Do you want to notify your family?" The female netizen did not know how to comfort others; in essence, she was still a kind, simple girl who could easily trust people.

"No need," Han Fei shook his head, glanced at the clock on the wall, then removed the IV cannula, put on his coat, and walked outside: "It’s time for me to go home."

The female netizen wanted to leave with Han Fei, but after hearing the words "go home," she stopped in her tracks.

Standing in place, she watched Han Fei walk away.

By the time Han Fei’s figure had disappeared in the hospital corridor, the tears she’d been holding back started to fall.

"Scumbag! Liar! I actually never liked you at all! I just saw you as my meal ticket! It was me who deceived you!" As the female netizen spoke, her grievances turned into tears streaming down her face: "I never liked you... I just felt that the time spent with you was happier than any other time I’ve had before."

After leaving the hospital, Han Fei took a ride back to the residential complex where he lived.

He jogged into the building and as he knocked on the door of his home, the tiredness on his face slowly faded, giving way to a warm smile at the corner of his mouth.

Fu Tian shouted with joy as he ran to open the door; he was always the happiest one in the family.

After returning home, Han Fei picked up Fu Tian: "Did you listen to the teacher in kindergarten today?"

"I was praised today! No one else could solve the math problems, but I could!" Fu Tian had a keen sense for numbers, and he also possessed a curious heart for everything.

"That’s remarkable, you will surely become someone who changes the world one day."

"Then can I make it so there are no carrots in the world?"

"But there are many people who really like eating carrots around the world. If you eliminate them all just because you don’t like them, wouldn’t that be unfair to others?"

"Well... okay then." Fu Tian fell into thought, his serious little face looking particularly adorable.

Han Fei carried Fu Tian to the dining table, changed his clothes, and was about to help in the kitchen when his wife already brought out the cooked dishes.

"It’s time to eat."

His wife called out towards the second floor and the door of the bedroom opened, Fu Sheng walked down with a book in hand.

This meal, on the surface, was like any other, but Han Fei felt a slight difference; both his wife and Fu Sheng seemed a bit off.

"Mom, I want to watch TV." Fu Tian jumped off the chair. He had just reached for the remote control on the sofa when his mother snatched it away in an instant.

"Eat your meal properly."

"The cartoon is about to start!" Fu Tian didn’t understand why his mother acted this way: "We agreed I could watch half an hour of TV every day!"

"You need to go to bed early today."

"I’ll just watch for a while; it won’t affect my sleep."

In the eyes of a child, adults are supposed to keep their promises. Fu Tian leaned next to his mother, trying to grab the remote control back continuously.

"Slap!"

The always gentle mother suddenly slammed the remote control onto the table, glaring at Fu Tian: "No watching!"

Fu Tian, who had never been scolded like this before, cried out, wiping tears with both hands, standing next to the dining table.

When his wife refused to let Fu Tian watch TV, Han Fei had already guessed the reason; it was likely that both his wife and Fu Sheng had seen some report related to him on TV.

Standing up, Han Fei hugged Fu Tian, who was crying beside the table: "You guys go ahead and eat."

He gently patted Fu Tian’s back, carried him to the bedroom, and with the gentlest words, he calmed Fu Tian down.

Coming out of the bedroom, Han Fei took the plate he had prepared for Fu Sheng and served some food for Fu Tian, then brought it to him in the room.

Han Fei fed Fu Tian while telling him some interesting little stories. By the time Fu Tian had finished eating, he was no longer crying.

"Not keeping a promise is wrong, but it’s not mom’s fault; it’s dad’s fault," Han Fei also lay down on Fu Tian’s cartoon bed: "Mom works so hard taking care of us, you must not make her angry in the future."

"But..." Fu Tian’s face still had tear marks; he didn’t understand these things.

"To keep promises and be a decent, kind, principled person, this is what your parents have been teaching you. But that’s because when you grow up, society won’t teach you these things anymore," Han Fei’s hand gently rested on Fu Tian’s shoulder.

"I don’t understand."

"How about this," Han Fei looked into the eyes of the child: "When dad is at home, if you think mom did something wrong, you can come to tell dad, and stand firm with what you think is right. But if one day, dad is no longer here, no matter what, you must not let her be angry, because you are the person she loves most."

"Okay." Fu Tian still did not understand, but he thought what Han Fei said made a lot of sense.

"You need to protect her, take care of her, and not make her angry, okay?"

"En, I understand."

Only after Fu Tian fell asleep did Han Fei leave the bedroom.

Fu Sheng had already gone back to the second floor to study; his wife was washing dishes, but she had left a plate of food for Han Fei on the dining table.

"Is Fu Tian asleep?" His wife came out of the kitchen; she reheated the porridge and then placed it in front of Han Fei.

"He’s asleep now."

"Good." His wife continued with her chores; Han Fei watched her, drinking the freshly warmed porridge.

Should he tell her everything?

Sitting at the dining table alone, Han Fei thought for a long time. After finishing the warm bowl of porridge, he took the dishes and went into the kitchen.

"Actually, there’s something I’ve wanted to tell you for a long time."
