Chapter 519: Chapter 519: Awakened Memories (Seeking 4,000 Monthly Votes)

Ever since entering the internal structure of the orphanage, the nature of the game seemed to have changed; malice buried deep within people’s hearts was aroused. Losing the game here might mean losing your life.

After the oldest boy shouted "Old Wolf, Old Wolf, what time is it?" once again, the only remaining night light in the dining hall started flickering, and it seemed like something was lurking in the thick darkness in the distance.

Skinny Monkey was still sitting on the ground, terrified, not daring to move an inch.

Han Fei, holding the hand of the little boy, also dared not approach rashly, and in the dining hall, only the oldest boy was steadily walking forward until that unfamiliar voice sounded again.

"One o’clock..."

This time, Han Fei heard it very clearly. The strange voice came from across the dining hall, to be precise, from the beheaded Little Fatty’s body.

After Little Fatty finished speaking, Han Fei started to back away, intending to return to the kitchen.

The girl, who had the same idea as him, had been scared to tears after seeing Little Fatty’s head get eaten. Her face was covered in tears, but she dared not cry out loud.

Moving backward, the kitchen door appeared right in front of them, but an odd noise came from the far end of the dining hall.

It sounded like countless insects crawling, and amidst those chilling sounds, the headless Little Fatty began slowly turning his body.

The little girl had not noticed anything wrong with Fatty and continued moving towards the kitchen. Han Fei, however, had a very bad premonition. He took a big step towards where the girl was and used his body to block her still-moving form.

The headless Fatty had completely turned around, blood oozing from his neck, soaking his front shirt as if something in the darkness was manipulating him.

His round arms slowly raised, and plump little fingers pointed at Han Fei.

At that moment, Han Fei made no move, standing still, not moving an inch.

But the girl behind him clearly didn’t realize the problem and still wanted to keep moving forward. She was already very close to the kitchen door.

With a step forward, the girl’s body suddenly fell headfirst. She looked at her left leg, which she had stepped forward with, in horror.

It was as if a mouth full of sharp teeth lurked in the darkness. When her thin left leg stepped into the darkness, it was neatly severed.

Her body lost balance, and she fell forward.

Intense pain shot through her brain, and the girl clutched at her now half-remaining leg, rolling on the ground in agony, her cries heartbreaking.

By then, the headless Fatty had already turned back. The oldest child looked coldly at the girl rolling on the ground, no sympathy in his eyes as he emotionlessly continued, "Old Wolf, Old Wolf, what time is it?"

As he spoke, Han Fei, with the girl and the little boy in tow, reached the kitchen door. He tried to open it, but when his hand touched the pitch-black wall, he realized that the door behind him had fused into the wall!

There was no iron door on the wall, just a paint depiction that resembled a door!

"Can’t move back?"

With no windows and no doors, the dining hall emitted a sense of strangeness and was incredibly oppressive.

The night light was still flickering, seemingly about to extinguish at any moment, and the oldest boy appeared to know the secrets of this place as he took the initiative to move forward.

"The games in this building weren’t for children to play; they were clearly one death trap after another."

At the start of the game, Han Fei had heard the sound of maniacal laughter near his ear. The Blood-colored Orphanage’s laughter seemed to grow excited with these "little games."

"What will happen if he continues to be excited?"

Since there was no way back, the best course was to press forward. The most twisted boy had said that as long as you touched Old Wolf and successfully escaped back, you would win, but Han Fei felt that the other party might also be lying.

Looking at the children in the restaurant, the first method of winning Han Fei thought of was to kill all the other contenders except himself, but this was extremely risky, and he was somewhat reluctant to do it himself.

The second method was to kill Old Wolf.

It was simple logic, if Old Wolf wanted to eat people, then kill Old Wolf.

Old Wolf, lurking in the darkness, was clearly the key to this game, the outcome depended entirely on Old Wolf.

"Let’s start by getting closer to it step by step."

As Han Fei moved, he kept observing the eldest boy, who occasionally stole glances at the small nightlight on the wall. It seemed that he only asked Old Wolf what time it was when the light was on.

"What would happen if you asked Old Wolf what time it was when the light was off? Does Old Wolf only start to feed in the darkness?"

The girl was rolling on the ground in pain, Skinny Monkey was still lingering a few meters away from Little Fatty, and the oldest child had already run to the middle of the restaurant.

"Old Wolf, Old Wolf, what time is it?"

Again, as the nightlight came on, the boy asked, and after a while, when the nightlight flickered, a voice emerged from the darkness in the distance.

"It’s four o’clock..."

Listening carefully, the voice seemed to be a mix of many children’s voices, shrill, cold, with a thick chill to it.

"Could it be that the souls of the children who died in the restaurant have gathered together?"

Invisible monsters were the most terrifying. After figuring out the rough pattern, Han Fei, holding the Spiritual Altar in one hand and leading the little boy with the other, also started moving forward.

In the pitch-black night, a few people ran into the restaurant of the orphanage to play such a game, a game that was originally very common, but now seemed extraordinarily eerie.

Unknowingly, the oldest child had traversed three-quarters of the distance. Just as he was about to continue asking, Skinny Monkey seemed to see something and shook his head desperately.

"Don’t call out anymore! Stop calling! I’ll die, it will eat me!" Skinny Monkey pleaded, but the oldest child did not care, his eyes revealing a cruel light. As the nightlight came on, he once again asked the darkness in the distance.

The nightlight on the wall began to flicker, the only light source in the room brightening and dimming like a dying patient. After struggling for a few moments, it finally extinguished the flame of life.

The restaurant plunged into complete darkness, accompanied by unnerving chewing sounds as that strange and terrifying voice entered everyone’s ears.

"It’s midnight..."

Every time Old Wolf announced it was midnight or time to eat, the children had to run back to avoid being caught by Old Wolf, but Han Fei did not hear the sound of footsteps. Looking toward the not-too-distant place, the oldest child was standing still, not running backwards.

"Why isn’t he running?"

The darkness lasted a very long time, and just when Han Fei thought the nightlight would never light up again, it flickered back to life like a ghost fire, reigniting the darkness.

Looking towards the other side of the restaurant, where Little Fatty had been standing, there was now only a pool of blood and two legs.

"Is it him again?"

Skinny Monkey collapsed to the ground, his face so pale it was terrifying. He clutched his mouth with both hands, desperately shrinking under the table to prevent the blood on the floor from reaching him.

"Stop it, stop playing!" the girl who had lost her left leg screamed, breaking down.

It seemed that staying at the back of the group also invited trouble, as the girl, dragging her severed leg, left a striking trail of blood behind her.

The oldest child clearly had no intention of stopping. As he was about to speak again, he suddenly saw Han Fei approaching him, "Once the game starts, it can’t end normally. Trying to stop me now is futile. It was you who wanted to play the game, you can’t blame others!"

This child was utterly mad, filled with hatred and malice, it’s impossible to know what he had gone through before.

"Old Wolf, Old Wolf, what’s the time!"

It was clear that the oldest child was also very anxious, using madness and hysteria to mask his inner fear.

Taking advantage of the night light turning on, the boy shouted at the two legs in the darkness, waiting for Old Wolf’s response as the night light went out.

In the darkness, something seemed to slowly unfold, the sharp, thin sound as though coming from all directions at once.

"Time to eat..."

The sounds of chewing and Skinny Monkey’s screams rose simultaneously; in the darkness, no one knew what was happening in front.

"Save me! Number twenty-four! Save me!"

Skinny Monkey’s cries for help echoed in the room, breaking everyone out in a cold sweat.

A full three minutes passed before Skinny Monkey’s screams stopped, and the night lights on the walls lit up again.

Looking toward the end of the dining hall, both Little Fatty and Skinny Monkey were gone, leaving only two pools of blood on the floor.

The oldest boy was intently focused on the end of the dining hall, as if calculating something seriously.

Han Fei was recalling what Skinny Monkey had just said; the skinny child had shouted the name "number twenty-four" while being devoured.

On further thought, the big iron gate of the White Orphanage was labeled with the number 024. If so, could it be that this oldest, most twisted boy was the master of the orphanage, the very person Han Fei was searching for?

"The first clue is a mental problem, and this boy not only has mental issues but also a twisted personality, full of sinister schemes."

With the two children ahead now dead, it seemed the chance had come for the oldest child who, while shouting "Old Wolf, Old Wolf, what’s the time," sprinted forward with all his might.

Han Fei realized something was wrong. The Flying Talent and Midnight Patrol Talent kicked in simultaneously as he picked up the little boy and followed tightly behind the other child.

Just as the boy was about to reach the other side of the dining hall, Han Fei took out a chain covered with animal fur from the Item Bar and flung it toward the boy.

The chain, tainted with countless curses and Death Intent, wrapped around the boy’s neck like the claws of an animal, binding him.

The boy was only a few steps away from the other side of the dining hall but was now being yanked back by Han Fei, unable to move forward.

In that brief delay, Han Fei had managed to catch up to the boy with the little child in tow; the three of them almost lined up side by side.

The boy looked at the chain around his neck, his eyes red with rage, black veins bulging on his neck.

He was so close to getting away, yet Han Fei had him bound with the chain. He couldn’t understand how a nurse who came to look after the children could be carrying such a thick chain!

His fingers clutched the chains tightly, the boy glaring at Han Fei, his eyeballs looking as if they were about to burst from their sockets, "You play dirty! Shameless!"

"This is society," Han Fei said without a trace of sympathy in his eyes, he was telling the child in advance how complex the adult world really was.

"Let go of the chains!" The boy was really panicked, he seemed to be having an attack, grasping the sides of the chain with both hands, and slowly pulled the chain—which was covered in animal fur—off his flesh.

Han Fei’s expression remained neutral, but inside he was actually astonished; he hadn’t felt any dark energy from the boy, but it seemed the boy had managed to pull the cursed chain apart purely with his own strength and malice.

The chain loosened, and just as the boy was about to break free, the night light on the wall went out again.

By then Han Fei and the boy had reached the other end of the dining hall, right in front of the two puddles of blood.

As the distance closed, Han Fei also clearly felt the changes in the darkness.

He and the oldest boy didn’t dare move, but just then, the little girl lying on the ground behind them suddenly spoke up.

"Old Wolf, Old Wolf, what time is it?"

The crisp voice of a child echoed in the dining hall, sending a chill down the spines of Han Fei and the oldest boy.

The darkness before them grew even denser, and "Old Wolf," the one who had eaten countless children in the dining hall, was finally about to make its appearance!

A shadow flickered in the blood on the floor, and the darkness seemed to shift shape, slowly revealing the outline of a huge wolf’s head.

The area around the wolf’s head was adorned with headless bodies of children, and as it moved through the darkness, all the bodies would jostle and collide with each other, like notes of death.

The game "Old Wolf, Old Wolf, what time is it?" was just a game in itself, but the fear of those orphanage children had slowly coalesced, forming such a monstrously huge monster.

Sharp teeth protruded from the corners of its mouth; the huge wolf head opened its jaws, and countless children’s voices mixed together, then came out from the mouth of Old Wolf.

"Time to eat..."

The monster formed by the fear of countless children opened its great maw in the darkness, lunging for Han Fei’s head.

In that instant, Han Fei felt all the darkness of the dining hall crushing down on him. He stretched his hand trying to open the cover of Spiritual Altar, but just then a hysterical laughter burst from the depths of his Brain Sea.

He couldn’t control the corners of his mouth turning up, the memories tinged with blood red flooded his eyes so he could no longer see any white.

As the wolf head bit down, Han Fei’s Brain Sea also conjured up countless unfamiliar fragments of memory.

It was also in the dining hall of the orphanage deep in the night, himself as a child stood at the end of the blood-red dining hall, his back to everyone behind him.

When the voice calling "Old Wolf, Old Wolf, what time is it?" sounded, the child slowly turned around, a sharp knife in his hand, his cheeks and the front of his clothes all dripping with fresh blood.

"Time to eat..."

A sharp pain erupted in his head, and as the orphanage’s lock quivered deep within Han Fei’s Brain Sea, the hysterical laughter chimed in with Han Fei’s voice saying the words, "Time to eat."

As he uttered those three words with that special intonation, the monster formed by the children’s fear instantly fell apart, fleeing into the surrounding darkness, as if Han Fei were indeed the "Old Wolf" at the very depths of the orphanage’s darkness.

His body hit the ground hard; Han Fei felt as if his head were about to split open, and amidst that intense pain, a segment of forgotten memory was awakened.

"I’ve played this game before too! And I was the Old Wolf!"
