Chapter 475: Chapter 475: The Wicked Have Their Own Tormentors (Seeking 4000 Monthly Votes)
Han Fei had never shown such intense murderous intent towards anyone; his voice seemed to freeze the air in the hospital room.
The man standing beside the hospital bed shuddered, looking at Han Fei with disbelief.
"How, how are you here?"
The dazzling knife blade touched the ground, and Han Fei rushed towards the hospital bed with the fastest speed. In the blink of an eye, he had pressed the cold blade against the other’s neck.
"Let go."
If it weren’t for the fear of breaking that fragile medical tube, the man’s head might have already fallen to the ground.
"Your mother won’t live much longer; she just needs to die a few days earlier for us to receive a large sum of money, enough for us to live a life of leisure for the rest of our lives." The man slowly loosened the tube, "Your mother would probably want you to live happily. If she knew her life could be exchanged for so much money, she would certainly agree to it..."
As the man loosened the medical tube, he felt a chill at his neck, as if the wind was burrowing in.
But fear prevented him from checking; instead, he tried to persuade Han Fei. Gradually, he felt his throat filling with gas, as if something was surging out of his mouth.
He realized he couldn’t speak. Slowly looking down, he saw his cut-open neck and his headless body.
"Master of Shrine’s internal regrets have been alleviated by seventy percent!"
The cold system notification rang out in his mind, Han Fei stared at the decapitated body on the ground.
"Not killing you was also one of his regrets."
Han Fei had Wang Ping’an and the old man’s family search for a doctor while he stayed by his mother’s bedside, gently holding the woman’s thin hand.
The woman lying in the hospital bed felt the warmth from Han Fei’s palm and suddenly a tear rolled out of the corner of her eye as she weakly opened her eyes.
Without falling asleep, upon seeing Han Fei, her first words were, "You shouldn’t have stopped him, I have left you nothing but have always been a burden to you. If my death could truly change your life..."
"With you here, I have life, I am truly myself." Han Fei, an orphan who grew up in a welfare home, felt as if a missing part of his memory was slowly becoming complete.
The woman shook her head, not wanting Han Fei to suffer, yet lacking the ability to protect him: "You have given up too much in life for me, am I not the worst mother in the world?"
Han Fei lay beside the hospital bed, outside, the city had completely transformed, filled with monsters and madmen, all buildings warped in shape, everything twisted by desires and hatred, only this small hospital room remained as before: "I can give up everything as long as you are alive, because you are the only one in the world who loves me."
The woman on the hospital bed closed her eyes; she tightly grasped Han Fei’s hand until she no longer had the strength.
With tears streaking her pale cheeks, the woman’s grip gradually loosened.
The nearby medical equipment emitted a warning sound, Han Fei immediately rose and rushed outside: "Ping’an! Have you found the doctor?"
"Brother! Brother! The doctors are fighting!" Before Wang Ping’an finished speaking, a loud noise came from the third floor, the building shook, and the wall bricks seemed to be punctured like flesh.
In the pale hospital corridor, a tall, thin man in a white coat was fighting with the old man’s family, his presence completely out of place in this transformed world, with a tattoo of a male and a female head on his neck.
"Ten Fingers?"
While the tall, thin doctor detained the old man’s family, the door of a hospital room on the third floor was knocked open, and several doctors in blood clothes fell to the ground.
"The last Sacrificial Offering is secured, we’re headed to the Department Store, this time we must make our wishes first, we absolutely cannot fail again." A man in Blood Clothes carried Huang Li out as her body appeared much smaller, resembling a bird whose wings had been snapped off.
The two jumped out of the window and quickly disappeared into the raging storm.
Han Fei did not chase after them; instead, he rushed to the third floor and grabbed a doctor from the ground: "Is anyone else here? Wake up!"
Blood stained his hands; to take Huang Li, Three Fingers and Two Fingers had killed all the on-duty medical staff.
"Search! There must be more doctors in the hospital!" Han Fei’s voice had changed. At this moment, he was not influenced by the Master of Shrine, he truly wanted to save that mother.
The skirmish caused the entire hospital to begin tilting as if it were about to collapse at any moment.
The situation was getting worse, and just as Han Fei was becoming increasingly anxious, he suddenly heard Wang Ping’an’s cries.
He ran back to the ward and found Lin Lu standing beside the bed, continuously trying to save the Master of Shrine’s mother.
"How is it?"
"Not very promising. The equipment has been off for a while, and her organs have started to fail."
"How long can she last?"
"Maybe until dawn."
Lin Lu’s words caused Han Fei to clench his teeth. After a few seconds of thought, he asked Lin Lu to continue taking care of the Master of Shrine’s mother while he turned and headed out of the ward.
"Where are you going?" Lin Lu did not want to part with Han Fei, she had a premonition that once they parted this time, they might never see each other again.
"I am going to do what needs to be done." Han Fei looked out the window at the city plunged into madness: "Fate has handed me the worst script, but it’s okay, I was born to be the best actor."
Carrying the Wish Jar, Han Fei walked out of the ward, letting his emotions plummet.
"No matter what, I will make up for this regret."
Calling Wang Ping’an, they both left the People’s Hospital and sped through the bizarre and limitless city.
"Brother, where are we going?"
"The Department Store, everything started there, and now it’s time to end it all there."
In the entire cityscape, Han Fei seemed incredibly tiny, like a lost firefly dancing in the night.
It might lack the ability to illuminate the darkness, but it holds the courage not to blend into it.
"The Ten Fingers are making their wish tonight; this might be my only chance."
The rain poured down, the waters of Shahe overflowed the embankments, and the whole city seemed about to be submerged.
The streetlights on either side of the road were all out, and this violent storm washed away not only the city’s hypocritical facade but also the last of people’s sanity.
Screams of agony, cries of despair, sounds of gnashing teeth, and the noise of rain crashing down, all mixed together to form a hysterical song.
Everyone was singing, everyone was in the song, no one could escape this desperate memory, no one knew whether tomorrow or destruction would arrive first.
The Department Store’s grand clock was struck, rainwater poured into the store, and the familiar streets were submerged, making the first floor of the mall seem like a well.
Han Fei looked into the distance, the completely transformed mall was unrecognizable from before, resembling a gigantic black shrine.
"Brother, I, I’m a bit scared."
"It’s okay, just stay with me." Han Fei took out his phone trying to contact Brother Snake’s subordinates, but the phone was inoperable, displaying only struggling faces when the screen lit up.
"They should have arrived by now." Along the western street, Han Fei saw a van trapped in the water.
The vehicle had stopped working, with no one inside.
"Have they already gone to the mall?"
The grand clock above kept ringing. As Han Fei was about to enter the Department Store, a loud noise erupted from inside the mall, as if thunder had exploded underground.
Cracks spread quickly, and the floor of the first level of the mall collapsed downward as a whole!
Chunks of stone fell into the water, thudding dully, like frenzied drumbeats.
The shrine and altar hidden beneath were exposed, with Huang Li, Brother Snake, Li Long, and Li Hu laid on the jet-black altar, along with two others Han Fei had never seen before.
In front of the altar, dressed in black clothes, Pei Yang held a sharp knife, his body uncontrollably trembling.
"Go on, if you don’t kill them, you’ll die too."
Behind Pei Yang stood a man in a black robe, his bare hands pale and devoid of any fingers.
Hearing the man’s urging, Pei Yang seemed to remember something terribly frightening. He stepped towards the altar without hesitation and directly slit the wrists and ankles of Brother Snake.
Blood dripped from the altar, and the shrine situated in the center of the mall visibly changed, its Divine Door slowly opening a crack.
"Not enough! Far from enough! Kill them! Quick!"
The man’s voice became shrill, Pei Yang’s pupils overtaken by fear, he swung the knife madly.
Blood covered the altar, and the Divine Door of the shrine slowly opened.
As life ebbed away, the Sacrificial Offerings’ expressions turned dull, their souls and blood being absorbed by the shrine together.
Strange blood-colored Divine Patterns surfaced on the black shrine, and shockingly, thick blood vessels emerged from the structure of the Department Store, resembling the Divine Patterns on the shrine.
The underground shrine and the entire seven-story building were undergoing a tremendous transformation, attracting numerous mutated souls.
"Don’t stop! You must kill them with your own hands!" The man in the black robe forced Pei Yang onto the altar, demanding that he continue the massacre in a set sequence.
Relentlessly tormented, Pei Yang nearly collapsed, but was still forced to wield the knife.
The blood was absorbed, but the Divine Door did not fully open, as if the blood and souls of the few people on the altar were no longer sufficient for the shrine.
"I did as you said, can I leave now?" Pei Yang’s hands were bloody, his arms trembling, no longer able to hold the sharp knife steadily.
"Leave?" The man took off the hat he wore on his head, revealing his face; he stared at Pei Yang like a venomous snake, "Over the years, I’ve encountered you hundreds of times, each time bestowing upon you a different death. Now do you understand why I’m so familiar with your fears?"
The man grabbed Pei Yang’s hands, forcing him to point the knife’s tip at his own chest, "Now you can welcome your release, you won’t wake from the pain again this time."
Pei Yang was utterly powerless to resist, watching as his own hands gripped the knife, then plunged it into his chest.
Blood dripped onto the altar, the doors of the Divine Door slowly opened outward, and the man in the black robe also revealed a smile.
He had waited a long time for this moment, spending years to identify these few people among the vast crowds, and after numerous attempts, he finally figured out the order in which to place the Sacrificial Offering. Now, the time of harvest had come.
"Unspeakable, this is the secret of the Unspeakable."
The entity within the Shrine was about to be released, harbored within that pitch darkness was the hope of becoming Unspeakable.
The man in the black robe could not help but step forward, eagerly looking at the Shrine, but the Divine Door only moved slightly to the sides and did not fully open.
"Failed again?"
A cold, murderous air instantly emerged on the man, and Hatred’s Black Fire began to burn in his eyes, "I’ve killed every person in this world once! Why haven’t I found all the Sacrificial Offerings yet? What am I missing? What exactly is missing!"
The heavy rain pounded on the department store, and just as the man roared in anger, applause surprisingly rang out from the shadows on the first floor of the store.
"Thank you for placing the Sacrificial Offering on the altar for me." The almost entirely rotting department store Boss emerged from the shadows, coughing continuously, emitting an unpleasant stench from his body.
Hearing the voice of the department store Boss, the man’s expression returned to normal, his sinister eyes glaring at the Boss, "The Memory World can only exist for thirty days at most, and the further along, the stronger your power will be. I admit, I’m no match for you, but... I often find you on the first day I enter the Memory World, and I torment you till you die, even though everything resets after your death, I still very much enjoy doing that."
It takes a villain to deal with another villain; a madman met a psychopath, twisting the very air.
"I don’t care where you come from, as long as you break the rules of Shahe, it’s my duty to drive you out." Boss Gu waved towards the shadows, and mad dogs with golden chains around their necks crawled out, followed by mutated citizens of Shahe City.
"You always put on a sanctimonious face, even wrapping yourself up as a philanthropist. If I am truly bad, then you are truly disgusting." The man’s black robe fell to the ground, revealing his body covered in human heads tattoos.
Grinning, he stretched out his hands, and all the tattoos on his body came to life, triggering the Sealing; his bald hands grew ten fingers entwined with Hatred.
"Come on, my favorite thing is slaughter; can you satisfy me?"
The man looked at the wounds on the department store Boss, his face breaking into a joyful smile.
"What a madman," the department store Boss coughed violently a few times as he raised his blood-covered arm towards the man.
The completely deranged, mutated citizens had been deceived by him, not heeding the man’s words, and charged at the man en masse.
"Compared to the last time I entered, I can use much more of my Ability now. It seems that the power of the Shrine is gradually weakening." Hatred’s Black Fire began to burn on his skin; the man’s eyes filled with madness, "It doesn’t matter if you won’t let me make a wish, one day, I will open the Shrine with my own hands."
Any mutated Monsters and mad dogs that came close to the man were devoured by the Hatred’s Black Fire, causing no harm to him at all.
The department store Boss knew this too but he didn’t care about the lives of those mad dogs and Monsters, instead maintaining a righteous stance as he shouted, driving them constantly forward.
The Sacrificial Offering was placed on the altar, under the allure of the Shrine and the deceit of the department store Boss, a constant stream of Souls entered the Department Store.
"You an Outsider, how can you fight against me who owns the entire city?"
