My ‘Healing’ Game -
Chapter 403: This Era Will Be Named After Me
Chapter 403: Chapter 403: This Era Will Be Named After Me
The unspeakable song sounded as if it was crying, carrying an inexplicable sadness.
"The more some memories are recalled, the more pain they bring. Perhaps the song has already communicated with the old man’s skull."
Han Fei needed Fu Sheng’s memory fragments to understand the Deep World, and the song was clearly aware of this.
He left the shrine, carrying the old man’s skull and entering another area, obviously luring Han Fei.
"The building where the song is located is quite special, all its windows are hung with red ropes, and the walls are patchy and slightly undulating. It doesn’t seem to be made of bricks; it rather resembles a house-like monster."
In the Deep World, anything is possible, and the system isn’t omniscient. Like the black little monster that Xu Qin raised, no one knows exactly how it was formed.
There are many creatures similar to Xu Qin’s little pet in the Deep World.
"Once I’ve upgraded the shrine, I’ll try to enter the area next to the Death Building."
In Han Fei’s mind appeared the map left by the previous building chief, Fu Sheng. The Deep World was really vast, and he was currently only active within a very small area, not yet having truly ventured into the deep darkness.
"Upgrading the shrine requires fulfilling two conditions: achieving a hundred reputation points and possessing a hundred hidden virtues."
"I’ve done so much work in the Deep World and should be considered a leader in the industry, so ideally, my reputation should be quite prominent. However, I only have thirty-four reputation points, which is far from a hundred."
"It seems I’ve indeed been too low-profile before. Once I have enough hidden virtue, I need to find a way to make some significant moves."
"Gaining the goodwill of the Deep World’s native residents can increase my reputation, and so can increasing their hatred and anger towards me. Helping others is difficult, but angering others should be easy."
With only a drop of blood left, Han Fei still had to spread his "infamy" by making big moves, a situation that couldn’t even be described as dancing on the edge of a knife.
"I can find ways to increase my reputation in the Deep World, but hidden virtue is a special attribute. Although the system doesn’t specify, I understand that it means doing good deeds in the Mortal World and receiving blessings after death. If I continuously do good deeds in reality, will my hidden virtue in the Deep World increase?"
All roots led back to the Black Box, which was in Han Fei’s mind.
When he tried to disclose information about the Black Box and the Deep World, he was warned by a voice in his mind. This indicated that the voice was constantly monitoring Han Fei, recording his actions in reality into the Black Box.
For further testing, Han Fei decided to immediately seek out the police. His eight-hour heart-to-heart talk with the Death Building owners hadn’t been in vain, as it helped him understand their past and the injustices they faced.
Apart from some members in the Death Chat Group, a significant number of people inside the Death Building died of homicide, many committed by followers of the Butterfly.
Now that the Butterfly’s consciousness had disappeared, the "monsters" it had deluded remained in the Mortal World. Han Fei wanted to bring these monsters wearing human skin to justice and utterly eradicate the roots of the Butterfly.
He took out his phone and wrote down everything he knew.
Others’ acts of righteousness usually involved assisting the police after cases arose, but Han Fei handled everything from discovering the case to providing key clues and capturing the criminal—a complete one-stop service.
Luckily, he didn’t have to film this morning, so Han Fei took the chance to personally rush to the Xinhu Old City District police substation.
Initially, Li Xue and the staff on duty at the substation greeted him; after a brief chat, Han Fei was directly taken by police car to the headquarters.
After being targeted by the Butterfly, everyone thought Han Fei would lay low, but instead, he stunned everyone with his actions!
Looking at the various case files organized on Han Fei’s phone, even the criminal investigation personnel with years of experience were incredulous.
Han Fei’s in-depth analyses and guesses about the cases demonstrated his extremely strong professional competence, something no one with less than a decade of practical experience could produce.
"Have you really not considered becoming a police officer?" asked the city substation’s leader, who personally tried to persuade Han Fei, believing that his acting career was a waste of his talents.
"You flatter me, I’m just luckier than most."
"Luck? Is that luck borrowed from the God of Death? We haven’t even known each other for as many days as there are criminals on your list," the leader said, unintentionally coming close to the truth.
Because of the multitude of involved criminals, some of whom had already died or disappeared, the police could only proceed slowly to avoid startling the suspects.
After handing over all the materials to the police, Han Fei took out his phone and looked at the list of last wishes recorded therein.
This wish list had been left to him by the Death Building’s owners, with some hoping to bring the murderers to justice, others wanting to see their loved ones again, and yet others wishing to taste their favorite dishes one last time.
After leaving the police station, Han Fei went alone to help fulfill these last wishes, visiting household after household, including seeing the last of the Old Ghost family’s bloodline.
The young man, after locking himself in his room for a day, finally came out. According to his neighbors, he had changed; no longer despondent, he began looking for work again.
The deceased had departed, leaving their grief embedded in the lives of the living. Some had lost family members, some had lost lovers, and others had lost everything, but most of them were still striving to live their lives.
Ha Ha’s parents had a second child, a merchant left all his money to his mother, who became a well-known philanthropist in Xinhu; the parents of Red Skirt had passed away, but people voluntarily cleaned her grave and brought fresh flowers every year.
After reading a lot, the laughter in Han Fei’s mind had disappeared once more, and his mood was very calm.
Through multiple investigations, Han Fei had confirmed Yinghuo’s identity. The man known online as Yinghuo was actually a frontline comedy actor living in Xinhu, still famous, but without any new works for about five years.
Coincidentally, both Yinghuo and Han Fei had become famous at a similar age, and their methods of gaining fame were quite alike as well.
The only difference was that one performed comedy and the other thrilling mysteries.
Without disturbing Yinghuo, Han Fei ended up visiting a hospital where Laisheng and his grandparents were staying.
The old man sat alone outside the hospital room, inside one room lay his seriously ill wife, and in another room lay Laisheng, feverish and delirious.
He shuttled between the two rooms, occasionally receiving urgent calls to repay debts.
After thoroughly consulting with the doctor and ensuring there was no critical danger to Laisheng’s life, Han Fei let out a sigh of relief.
Standing quietly in a corridor corner, watching the old man bustling around, Han Fei contacted Li Xue. With the help of the police, he found the treating doctor and paid for the nearly fifty thousand treatment fee on his behalf.
Han Fei actually wanted to pay for it all, since Laisheng’s parents had once saved his life, but unfortunately, after buying the Game Box, he really didn’t have much money left.
"I must help Laisheng. I’ll see if Director Jiang and Sister Long can advance some of the box office share from ’Twin Flowers.’" Han Fei couldn’t believe he was still struggling financially after becoming famous. Other actors enjoyed their life, but if he continued like this, he might need to take out a loan just to act.
"I still need to act well, even if it’s for the sake of everyone in the Deep World, I need to make an effort to earn money."
Han Fei initially wanted to see if doing good deeds in reality could increase his Hidden Virtue points in the Deep World, but now he had changed his mind. Some things must be done by someone.
Still wearing his old, cheap clothes, Han Fei rushed to the filming site of ’Mystery Novelist.’ Although his clothes were the most ordinary among all the actors, he immediately became the center of attention upon arriving on set.
Greeting the crew warmly, Han Fei found everyone discussing ’Perfect Life,’ the praise made him itch to try the normal game.
Han Fei hadn’t intended to join the conversation, but soon he heard a familiar name from the mouths of the crew — Huang Ying.
"Dang! Huang Ying’s ranking went up again! He’s dominating three leaderboards now! What on earth is with this guy!"
"Level fifteen? The server has only been up for fourteen hours, and he’s reached level fifteen? This guy must be cheating!"
Crowding near a crew member, Han Fei also looked at the mobile screen projection, where the top trending lists on major video platforms, social media, and entertainment gaming platforms were all dominated by one name — Huang Ying!
"Do you guys know this Huang Ying? What did he do?" Han Fei was curious, only aware that he himself was at level fifteen, while Brother Huang Ying had achieved this overnight, a speed even faster than during the internal test.
"Teacher Han, haven’t you played Perfect Life? This Huang Ying is unbeatable! Absolutely amazing!" Several crew members pointed at the mobile screen projection, where a person who claimed to be a Master-level professional player was publicly questioning Huang Ying.
"Perfect Life launched at midnight last night. Besides normal players, many professional players also entered. Now, at the early stages of the game, the eyes of the world are all here, and anyone who makes it onto a leaderboard can easily earn a vast income from advertisements, so everyone is rushing to rank up. Initially, the leaderboards were continuously changing, but by late night, this Huang Ying appeared," the crew member spoke with awe, as if re-experiencing his surprise upon first encountering the ID of Huang Ying.
"’Perfect Life’ has ten leaderboards, with players worldwide competing for the top thousand spots. Huang Ying ranked first in three of these leaderboards!"
"He’s five levels ahead of the second place on the leveling leaderboard! A whole five levels! Even the top players from the world’s largest gaming studios are beneath Huang Ying! They can only look up to his back!"
"The second is the NPC Affinity Leaderboard, also known as the Reputation Leaderboard. While ordinary players still have single-digit reputation points, Huang Ying’s reputation is already in the triple digits. He’s practically these NPCs’ godfather, no one knows how he does it!"
"The last leaderboard is the Happiness Degree ranking, the most difficult to advance. It’s not something that can be increased just by resources and gaming experience; players need to truly feel and understand the essence of ’Perfect Life’, understand the true meaning of happiness. And on this most humane leaderboard, Huang Ying increased his Happiness Sense by thirty-five in just twelve hours! His happiness soared so much while playing a game, did he previously live in purgatory?!"
That crew member echoed the thoughts of many, not just them, but all players following ’Perfect Life’ were discussing Huang Ying.
Some guessed that Huang Ying had maxed out all hidden attributes, possessing at least two A-rated talents.
Others thought Huang Ying was the secret largest shareholder of Deep Space Technology or perhaps the illegitimate son of the Chairman of Eternal Life Pharmaceutical.
Of course, many more thought Huang Ying was a cheater, aiming to steal the virtual future of all humanity!
Despite statements from Deep Space Technology assuring that Huang Ying’s account had no anomalies, the online discussion about Huang Ying continued to grow.
This name had become a legend, an essential symbol at the launch of ’Perfect Life’, no matter how many years later people recalled this moment, they would think of him.
Huang Ying undeniably crushed all players, standing as a pioneer at heights others could only look up to.
Han Fei searched the current rankings of the major leaderboards of Perfect Life, Huang Ying’s name was first on three, and in the remaining seven leaderboards, five were topped by anonymous players.
"Could those anonymous players on the other five leaderboards also be Huang Ying? One person holding the first place in eight leaderboards?"
Han Fei didn’t know what kind of future ’Perfect Life’ represented, nor what would happen in the next era, but he was certain that the era belonging to Huang Ying had arrived.
