Chapter 331: Chapter 331: Gaining the Recognition of the Community Owners (Such a Normal Title)
"The door to Building One’s hallway was already open; black fog drifted into the building, and Gesheng’s voice might also be coming over. Next, I need to figure out a way to reach the other buildings to search for Feng Ziyu. But before that, I have to secure the Hidden Profession of the Death Building Security Guard."
In the Deep World, every step had to be taken with utmost caution. Han Fei planned to stay inside Building One for three hours before leaving.
"Zhuang Wen must be searching for the Butterfly; I hope she gets her wish." Han Fei tried to close the hallway door again, but unfortunately, the lock was already broken. Even if it closed, the mist outside would keep seeping in endlessly.
While Han Fei was fiddling with the hallway door, a black arm suddenly emerged from the mist. He quickly positioned the Rebirth Saber in front of him, but before he could make his next move, the arm was wrapped in numerous Blood Silks and instantly torn apart.
The Blood Silks gathered together, and Red Skirt stood in the hallway on the first floor, staring intently at Han Fei. Such a frail man; how dare he meddle in the affairs between a Large-scaled Grudge and the Building-jumping Ghost?
"Thank you." Han Fei came back to his senses, put away the Rebirth Saber, and walked over to Red Skirt. "I just have one more question, you wouldn’t mind me being the security here, right?"
With no reason to refuse, Red Skirt nodded her agreement.
"Can you help me convince the others? I want to stay here to help more people find themselves again. I know I’m weak and have no special abilities; oftentimes, I can’t even save myself," Han Fei said with a bitter smile. "I don’t even know when I might die, but I still want to tell more people that in this world filled only with night, there are still people like me persevering."
Every word Han Fei said resonated with Red Skirt; she had once thought the same way.
As Red Skirt swayed, she stirred the Grudge Energy throughout the entire building. Red Skirt nodded again: "They will agree."
With Red Skirt accompanying him, Han Fei gradually grew bolder. He prepared to go door to door, consulting with all the owners.
He didn’t want to trouble himself so much, but this was a system requirement—to regain the Hidden Profession of Death Building Security Guard, he had to get the approval of all the owners.
First, Han Fei arrived at the door of the woman in the bridal dress; until now, he had been too preoccupied to seek her out.
Additionally, Han Fei had noticed that compared to the other building owners, the woman in the bridal dress was quite strong. Most importantly, she could actually leave the Death Building at will, which greatly concerned Han Fei.
Knocking on the door, it seemed like no one was inside. So Han Fei had no choice but to ask Red Skirt for help.
Blood Silk from the Red Skirt drilled into each lock, and weird, beautiful patterns appeared on the door.
Red Skirt had misunderstood Han Fei’s intentions. It wasn’t just the room of the woman in the bridal dress—she had unlocked every door on that floor.
Door after door slammed against the walls, and the blood-stained door numbers seemed to be crying.
Looking into the room, Han Fei noticed that the room’s layout closely resembled the Death Building Game. He entered the bedroom and stared at the wedding photo on the headboard.
"I operate with integrity; I will always keep my promises. Today, I’ve arrived earlier than expected for our appointment," he muttered as though talking to himself. There were no ghosts to respond to him, and the room, devoid of any Dark Energy, appeared even cleaner than rooms in the Mortal World.
"I know you are here," Han Fei said as he took the bridal veil from his Item Bar. Just as he was about to hand the veil over to Red Skirt for inspection, the woman in the wedding picture’s face turned greenish, and her eyes slowly bloodshot.
A pale hand grasped the picture frame, and a woman over two meters tall emerged from the wedding photograph.
Her gaze drifted behind Han Fei, her cracked lips slowly parted, but after hesitating for a long time, she couldn’t utter a single word.
"I just wanted to ask you for a small favor. Was it really necessary to draw the most terrifying ghost in the building to my home?"
"You aim to destroy my family on your first visit?"
Feeling incredibly conflicted inside, the woman in the wedding dress dared not remain silent, fearing she might not get another chance to speak.
"Things have been uneasy in the building recently, we can talk about our matter later."
"It’s all clear now, the Building-jumping Ghost from the top floor has left. The most influential owner now stands right behind me."
"The... top floor?" The woman in the wedding dress stared at Han Fei in disbelief. "Have these last two nights of chaos in the building had something to do with you?"
"There is a little bit of a connection. You could say you have good judgment for recommending me to become a security guard of the Death Building," Han Fei said with a smile, looking at the woman in the wedding dress.
The woman in the wedding dress felt like gouging her eyes out, but now she didn’t dare make any rash moves.
"Aren’t you looking to get into a certain room? We can go there right now, I’m a man of my word."
After repeated inquiries, the confused woman in the wedding dress finally spoke, "I need to enter a room in Building Four, my husband’s eyes are in there."
"Building Four? You know how to get into Building Four?"
"I used to live in Building Four, but my room has been taken over by something else." The woman in the wedding dress tore off the Human Skin on her neck, revealing a blood-red key in her throat. "You just need to hold that thing off for five minutes, and that will be enough."
"Deal, but before that, I need to stop by some other owners’ places. Just follow me for now," Han Fei added another member to his group, and the woman in the wedding dress kept a considerable distance from Red Skirt.
All the way up, almost all the owners recognized Han Fei. They highly rated him, and even a ghost whose mouth was sewn shut used sign language to praise Han Fei as outstanding.
Being affirmed and praised by the owners made Han Fei, as a security guard, very happy.
They smoothly reached the 14th floor where Han Fei, along with two other security guards and Red Skirt, stopped in front of Room 1144.
Before they even knocked, an old lady appeared in the staircase next door, wearing black clothes with a faint Butterfly Pattern visible above her neck.
Han Fei had seen this old lady before; she always liked to go out at midnight, searching for a way out, and she seemed to know some truths.
"Young man, I advise you not to open that door carelessly. You’ve already done very well, but you won’t be able to change anything. Perhaps everything will reset at the next Midnight," the old woman ominously told Han Fei, appearing to have always been hiding on the fourteenth floor.
"How will we know if we don’t try?" Han Fei walked up to the old lady, "Granny, you’re also a resident of this building. Are you satisfied with my work? Feel free to give me any suggestions you have."
"I suggest replacing the security guards with ones who are more obedient so that everyone can live longer," the old woman, hunched over, looked at Han Fei as if she was staring at something ominous.
"Old lady, perhaps you misunderstood me?" Han Fei took out a cigarette from his Item Bar, "I was asking if you had any suggestions, but I certainly didn’t ask you to make any wishes."
