Chapter 324: Level Thirteen
Chapter 324: Chapter 324: Level Thirteen
The text left by Feng Ziyu was incomprehensible to the average person, but only Han Fei knew how much information it contained.
"Room 4444?"
In fact, Han Fei had thought about a problem a long time ago. The division rule for the room numbers in the Death Building was simple—the first digit represented which building it was, the second and third digits represented the floor, and the fourth digit represented which apartment it was on the same floor.
If all four residential buildings in the Death Building had only twenty-four floors, there would be no possibility of a room numbered 4444.
"When I received the Death Curse mission, the system’s hint to me was also room number 4444. Now that Feng Ziyu has disappeared, he said he dreamed about room 4444 in his dreams, and even walked out from that room..."
"Based on previous conjectures, there should be a gap in the Death Building that connects to the Shallow World. Could that gap be room 4444? Is it through this room that the Butterfly continuously sends Outsiders into the Deep World, turning the Death Building into its own nest?"
"When I obtained the key to room 1244, the system’s phrasing was very strange, it said I obtained the key to the ’atrium’ of 1244. It seems to view every room in the Death Building as a person’s ’atrium,’ burying all of a person’s past and secrets."
"If that’s really the case, then whose ’atrium’ might room 4444 be? The Butterfly’s? Or the previous Building Chief, Fu Sheng’s?"
Han Fei etched every word left by Feng Ziyu in his brain sea, perhaps tonight he would meet the other party in the Death Building.
"If I can find Feng Ziyu and successfully rescue him, I will be able to obtain the Butterfly’s biggest secret from his mouth and understand how the Butterfly travels between reality and the Deep World."
The message left by Feng Ziyu indicated that he should now be in Building Four, the most dangerous building in the Death Building. It wasn’t just the Butterfly there now; even the singing was there.
"Han Fei, you said Feng Ziyu might be targeted by the Butterfly, is it because of me?" The phone hadn’t been hung up yet, and Huang Ying’s voice came through, "That Butterfly seems to be able to look through other people’s memories via dreams. It must know everything about me already. What surprises me, though, is that even so, it hasn’t made a move on me but targeted Feng Ziyu first."
Huang Ying’s memories were too normal, which to the Butterfly seemed too abnormal, so it didn’t target Huang Ying first.
Of course, Han Fei wouldn’t tell Huang Ying these things. The Huang Ying who was kept in the dark and knew nothing was the strongest, most mysterious Huang Ying.
"I will handle Feng Ziyu’s matter; how have you been yourself lately? Do you still dream of your mother at night?"
"It’s not just in the dreams. She seems to be starting to step out of the dream world and into reality. It’s hard to describe that feeling. For example, I dreamt that she poured me a glass of water in a dream, and when I woke up in the morning, I actually found an extra glass of water beside the bedside table."
"It’s possible that the Butterfly took advantage of you falling into deep sleep and planted some suggestions in you, causing you to pour it yourself, only you’ve forgotten about it."
"Maybe."
"Brother Huang Ying, the Butterfly’s influence will slowly seep from dreams into reality. You might use it to alleviate your guilt toward your mother, but you must remember, it’s just a madman pretending to be your mother. You must never blur the lines between dreams and reality!"
Huang Ying’s words also gave Han Fei a sense of urgency. When the Butterfly finally drops all pretense and strikes at Huang Ying, which is when Huang Ying is exposed, the Butterfly, having been played by Huang Ying, will surely take revenge in the most insane way possible.
"Understood."
After hanging up the phone, Han Fei thought about various things in his mind, but the speed at which he operated with his hands did not slow down in the slightest. He repeatedly made his way through the maps in front of him, reaching the Death Building, but again and again, he died in room 1244.
This fruitless death seemed like a kind of omen, making one feel uneasily disturbed.
At ten o’clock at night, Han Fei woke up Zhuang Ren, who had fallen asleep without knowing when, and told him to be careful, then he left.
Stepping out of the residential community, the virtual screen that connected heaven and earth in the distance now displayed the number "4", suggesting there were only four days left until the official public test of "Perfect Life".
The people around seemed to be celebrating a festival, excitedly discussing that epoch-making game. As the opening day drew closer, many gamers could hardly contain their excitement.
Compared to the festive crowd, Han Fei seemed out of place. He walked under the periphery of that giant virtual screen, silently stepping into the darkness.
Back at home, Han Fei picked up a book from the table and began to read. In this era, fewer and fewer people were willing to settle down to read books.
Han Fei hadn’t liked reading in the past, but ever since he started playing "Perfect Life," he grew increasingly fond of holding and reading physical books. Only in these moments could his heart truly calm down.
"Abnormal psychology is a concept that’s difficult to define precisely. Generally, it is believed to be a psychological dysfunction within an individual, accompanied by pain and functional impairment..."
At midnight, Han Fei took one last look at the street outside his window.
He put down the book, climbed into the Game Box, and put on his gaming helmet.
"As the time for my Death Curse to trigger gets closer, playing this game with a time bomb and betting my life is really quite thrilling."
With blood descending once again, Han Fei didn’t just re-enter Deep World to survive; he also sought to destroy Butterfly by any means necessary.
The incident with the Building-jumping Ghost had given him a tremendous shock, and it didn’t seem like it was an isolated case.
The stench of rot crept into his nose, and Han Fei snapped his eyes open.
The top floor of Building One was nearly covered in Blood Silk, and cracks spread everywhere on the walls. During the time Han Fei was away from the game, an even fiercer conflict seemed to have erupted in the building.
Without wasting any time, Han Fei rushed forward the moment he opened his eyes, remembering his position when he left the game and the distance between him and Room 1244’s door.
Seconds later, Han Fei was already at the doorway of Room 1244. He took out the key to the 1244 Atrium from his Item Bar and inserted it straight into the lock.
Completing a quest and staying alive for three hours was the only way to exit the game, so for Han Fei, everything else was secondary; ensuring mission completion was paramount.
Han Fei was acutely aware of his capabilities; only after the exit button lit up could he harness his full strength and gain a special bonus like fearlessness.
The key, etched with black spells, turned slowly. As the blood-red security door opened gradually, the black talismans crawled onto Han Fei’s palm as well.
However, to Han Fei’s surprise, when the spreading black talisman reached the blood pattern on his arm, it stopped expanding.
"The blood pattern is similar to the one on Big Evil; is Big Evil helping me?"
Time was of the essence, and without overthinking it, Han Fei pulled the security door wide open.
Yellowed Talisman Paper fell from the door as Han Fei entered Room 1244, and his Brain Sea received a system notification.
"Player 0000, please note! You have successfully completed a Grade F Hidden Quest—Touch and Die! You’ve been awarded a basic reward of three Skill Points! You’ve also received an exclusive reward for the hidden quest—the Gift of 1244 Atrium."
"The Gift of 1244 Atrium: All items within Room 1244 contain the homeowner’s memories; you may choose one to take with you."
"Beware! Selecting the right item can earn the friendship of the owner of Room 1244, but if you take something you shouldn’t touch, she may follow you forever."
"Player 0000, please note! You’ve been promoted to Level 13! One Free Attribute Point added!"
Death Building was a Grade E Hidden Map, dangerous but providing unusually high Experience, which might also be related to Han Fei’s low level.
After all, a normal Level 12 player should still be doing base missions in Happiness Residental Community, enhancing friendships with neighbors.
Having completed two Grade F hidden quests in the Grade E Death Building, Han Fei smoothly advanced to Level 13.
Although his Level was ridiculously low, thanks to the Professional Characteristics of Midnight Butcher, his Physical Strength Attribute wasn’t too bad.
After casually adding the Free Attribute Point to Physical Strength, Han Fei’s strength now totaled a whopping nineteen points. His Power wasn’t a big deal; the main thing was he could run faster now.
