Chapter 309: Strangling One’s Own Angel
Chapter 309: Chapter 309: Strangling One’s Own Angel
Having reached the seventh floor, the brightness shone upon them, and the three security guards all breathed a sigh of relief.
Patrolling within the Death Building, they had to be extremely cautious on every even-numbered floor where too many things lurked in the dark.
"Brother Hua, after you took that child home, did his mother show any unusual reactions?" Han Fei asked because he believed that the child Brother Hua returned wasn’t that mother’s child.
"His mother was very grateful to me."
"That’s it?"
"What else do you expect? Taking the child back was just a small effort for us." Brother Hua was modest, and it was evident that he truly wanted to maintain a good relationship with the owners in the building and was making efforts to help and protect them.
Standing next to the surveillance camera on the seventh floor, Brother Hua waved his hand and then led Xiaofang and Han Fei to inspect the fire facilities once again.
Having ensured everything was in order, they proceeded toward the eighth floor.
The light was behind them, and ahead was pitch darkness, but they still had to continue upwards.
As they ascended the steps, when Han Fei reached the corner between the seventh and eighth floors, the sound-activated light on the seventh floor suddenly went out.
He had already been at the back of the group, and now darkness engulfed him from behind.
An inexplicable chill ran down his spine, and Han Fei, who could look back freely in the Death Building, instinctively turned to look behind him.
Pressing close against his back stood a woman covered in blood! Her red skirt spread across the corridor, dragging behind her like a swath of blood-red hell!
Icy fingers grabbed Han Fei’s arm, exactly where the Red Skirt was located.
If Han Fei had reacted a moment slower, that woman might have dragged him straight down the stairs.
He shouted loudly, and the sound-activated light on the seventh floor came on. When the light reappeared, the woman in Blood Clothes had also vanished.
"Bro, what are you suddenly shouting for? You scared the heck out of me." Brother Hua and Xiaofang, who were ahead, heard Han Fei’s shout, and shuddered, hurrying to look back.
Han Fei also froze at the stairwell corner; he had just narrowly escaped death, and now his heart pounded rapidly.
However, even during such a terrifying moment, he hadn’t forgotten to observe his surroundings, which had become an instinct for him.
"The woman in the Red Skirt is a Large-scaled Grudge! Her blood-colored long skirt can cover two floors!"
Without the help of neighbors, Han Fei, with his own abilities, stood no chance against a Large-scaled Grudge.
"We just entered the Death Building, and it’s only the fourth floor of Building One..."
Striving to calm himself down, Han Fei recalled the face of the woman in the Red Skirt; he realized she looked different from the woman in Room 1044 who tried to push him down the stairs.
It seemed like many ghosts were confined in Room 1044, with the Red Skirt being only the most terrifying among them, and apparently, she was the only one who could leave the room at will.
"Hey! Are you okay?" Xiaofang and Brother Hua were still very concerned about Han Fei, seeing him stunned in place, they quickly retreated to his side, squeezing together.
"The Red Skirt appeared again, just when the lights went out, she was right behind me." Han Fei looked pale.
"Should we... perhaps put the skirt back?"
"Having come this far, going back would be too troublesome." Han Fei, whose arm was draped over the Red Skirt’s, had become numb, and his skin felt as cold as if it had been frostbitten.
Upon Han Fei’s insistence, the three reached the eighth floor.
Just upon arriving on this level, Han Fei faintly heard singing. He was now highly sensitive to singing, almost shielding himself with the Red Skirt the moment he heard the sound.
"Don’t worry, there’s a live-streamer living on the eighth floor, she’s noisy at night and often disturbs the peace; I’ll go talk to her right now." Brother Hua was well acquainted with the owners in the building, he pushed open the safety door and walked directly into the dark corridor.
Han Fei initially wanted to let it go, thinking that it was better not to make a fuss over nothing.
"It seems that issues always arise on even-numbered floors, we better leave as soon as possible." Han Fei followed closely behind Brother Hua, and the closer they got to room 1084, the clearer the singing sounded in their ears.
"It’s past three in the morning and she still isn’t resting. How many times does she need to be complained about before she mends her ways?" Brother Hua pressed the doorbell of room 1084, but no one answered for quite some time, apparently because the noise inside was too loud for the occupant to hear the doorbell.
Left with no choice, Brother Hua began to knock on the door.
After a few seconds, the singing inside stopped and the security door was opened. A cute dressed girl appeared at the doorway and asked, "Can I help you with something?"
Even though she was clearly at fault, her tone carried a mix of grievance and fear, as if the security guards would bully her.
"It’s almost three forty in the morning. If you aren’t sleeping, that’s your choice, but others need their rest. There are students upstairs who need to study for exams; you can’t go on like this!" Brother Hua spoke sternly, "We aren’t stopping you from live streaming, but you can’t keep making a racket at night."
Standing beside him, Xiaofang seemed intent on truly frightening the woman so she would keep quiet at night. He grimaced and said in a hoarse voice, "There’s something unclean in this building now, it seems something filthy has entered. Your constant noise might attract it here."
"Is it haunted?" Asked the woman, revived by Xiaofang’s words.
Brother Hua, somewhat speechless, shot Xiaofang a glance, "She moved here just to live stream encounters with ghosts."
"Live streaming ghosts? Is she so desperate for money that she doesn’t care about her own life?" Xiaofang looked at the petite and cute girl, the type that could easily arouse someone’s protective instincts; she appeared delicate and vulnerable, yet she was actually very brave.
"I’m not here to live stream ghosts per se, I’m just curious about these things. I heard that a live streamer also died in your building before and no one dared to take over her apartment afterward; it was eventually turned into a security room." The woman leaned against the door, seemingly intrigued by the security room.
"The original tenant of room 1044 was also a live streamer?" Han Fei’s interest was piqued.
"Aren’t you the security guard here? Don’t you know?" The woman was surprised, "The person in 1044 was a very sweet girl, but sadly she had a terminal illness. In her last days, she was pursuing treatment actively, living strongly. To give power to her fellow patients and hope to others also living in darkness, she began to live stream her limited life, sharing all that was beautiful."
"Isn’t that a good thing?" Han Fei, holding Red Skirt, began to converse with the Female Live-streamer with everyone present.
"At first, only her fellow patients, doctors, and friends followed her, but perhaps because she was very beautiful, spoke gently, and had a lovely personality, more and more people began to follow her."
"I don’t know when it started, but her live stream began to receive a lot of negative comments. Some people accused her of putting on a show, questioning how someone with a terminal illness could remain so positive? How could she still look so beautiful?"
"Those people forced her to show her medical records, pressing her to prove that she was really sick."
"At first, she managed to communicate with them properly, thinking that they were just skeptical because they had been deceived before, but gradually, things developed in a direction no one expected."
"Rumors sprang from nowhere, claiming she was kept by a wealthy sponsor, and that the money for her hospital treatments was all paid by this sponsor."
"The woman’s father filed a police report. Initially, the person who spread the rumor was detained for a day and then publicly apologized, but that didn’t really amend anything."
"Whenever she started streaming, there would always be weird people making strange comments."
"If she spent a lot on medical bills, they accused her of being ungrateful to her parents; if she wanted to drink a cup of her favorite milk tea, they said she wasn’t listening to her doctor, wasting the concern of many; if she became angry, they claimed it exposed her true nature, that her public image had collapsed; if she couldn’t hold back her tears, they accused her of only seeking sympathy."
"Those people weren’t aiming to prove anything; they were just doubting for the sake of doubting. They did everything they could to defame her, simply to satisfy the evil image they fantasized in their minds."
"Often in the woman’s live stream, there were two groups quarreling, and in the end, she was always the one who got hurt. Driven to desperation, they always pointed their fingers at her, asking her why she hadn’t died yet? Even when they saw the hospital’s proof, they claimed she fabricated her medical records."
"For a while, she felt as though the whole world was wrapped in thorns, everywhere she went she was met with stinging wounds."
"But unlike the internet, there were still people in real life who cared about her, and this was the source of her strength. Then one day, she suddenly saw a note slipped under her door with disgusting words, personally insulting her, and similar incidents began to increase."
"The pain from the internet began to seep into reality; in a time when the flower of her life could wither at any moment, she found herself trapped in a cage woven with malice, making even breathing difficult."
"The police became involved again, but she didn’t live to see the results of the investigation." The Female Live-streamer said with a hint of regret: "She didn’t die from the disease, she surrendered her own life."
"Was the perpetrator found?" Han Fei was more concerned about this.
"They found him, it was a delivery guy who often came into the building. He was also a follower of her live stream and watched her every day."
"Delivery guy?" Han Fei immediately thought of the Delivery Ghost on the first floor. He might not be able to dissolve the grudge of the woman from 1044, but perhaps he could reduce her hostility somewhat."
"A lot of things happened in between, and I only know the gist of it. I came to your community to understand everything." The Female Live-streamer smiled, "If there really are ghosts here, then it’s very probable that she has come back."
