Chapter 289 Eight-headed
Chapter 289: Chapter 289 Eight-headed
Looking at the group of people standing in the elevator car, Bai Sinian suddenly felt a very strange sensation. Although they were also bound by despair, full of sorrow and pain, they were different from the other residents of the Deep World.
Bai Sinian didn’t know how to describe it. He couldn’t express it, yet deep down, he too wanted to become someone like them.
Upon hearing Han Fei’s invitation, Bai Sinian couldn’t help but step forward. By the time he realized it, he was already standing beside Han Fei.
He became one of that group, standing together with them.
Pressing the elevator button, the silvery-grey elevator doors slowly closed, and the elevator began its descent.
"Um... I still don’t know how to address you?" Bai Sinian said among the fierce ghosts and grudges, not daring to speak too loudly.
"My name is Han Fei, the Building Chief of Happiness Residental Community, Building One, and part-time Patrol Teacher at Yimin Private Academy. I also own a small shop," Han Fei indicated to Bai Sinian not to be nervous: "They are all my neighbors and colleagues; they won’t hurt you without reason."
As the numbers on the elevator display screen kept changing to a blood-red color, the deeper it went, the stronger the strange smell in the air became. However, the resentment souls within the elevator did not mind these things; they simply followed behind Han Fei and moved together toward a certain direction.
The mottled walls of the elevator began to seep with fresh blood, and the blackish-red blood silk crawled about as if alive, quickly turning the elevator entirely red.
Drip-drop, drip-drop...
Blood pearls fell to the floor, and Xu Qin extended a pale hand over Han Fei’s forehead, seemingly not wanting the blood to drip onto his face.
All the resentment souls appeared to be standing casually, but upon closer observation, one could see that they were protecting Han Fei in the center. If any mishap should occur, the ghosts and monsters, dominated by despair and brutality, would protect Han Fei first and foremost.
Seeing this, Bai Sinian truly couldn’t imagine what kind of charm the man before him possessed, for so many fierce ghosts and monsters to be persuaded.
He quietly lowered his head, recalling how Han Fei had gestured to him earlier.
The expression Han Fei had shown was one that Bai Sinian had never seen before; even his master had never told him that in such a world, there could still be people whose eyes were filled with light and hope.
The temperature inside the elevator continued to drop, and it became enveloped by foul and bloody odors.
Soon the number on the display changed to negative four, and after a dull sound, the elevator finally came to a halt.
The elevator doors opened to both sides, revealing a restricted area before everyone.
The walls were covered with plant-like structures that resembled blood vessels, occasionally bugs of unknown species would pop out of crevices, and the ground was littered with a substantial amount of bloodied flesh and trash, with blood-stained uniforms visible every few steps.
"This is the true face of Yimin Security Company; everything on the outside is a facade."
Cold breaths kept emanating from the landlord’s ring; it felt as though many things were hidden all around.
"Everyone, don’t stray too far."
Stepping out of the elevator, the group surveyed the passageway in front of them.
Sub-level four was just a general term, as this place had been hollowed out, with large holes everywhere in the concrete walls.
Some holes contained pushcarts, while others housed cutting tools.
"Many security guards would enter sub-level four before officially starting their job, completing the final ’process’ here." Bai Sinian now remembered many things and regretted deeply: "My master didn’t need to go to the Death Building; he took my place to spare me."
Sub-level four looked like a massive garbage processing plant, and Han Fei couldn’t imagine what kind of "process" the security guards needed to complete here.
The light red lamps on the walls gradually dimmed, and neither Han Fei nor Bai Sinian knew which passage led to the way out; they could only follow their experience and head towards the place with the strongest stench.
After several minutes of walking, the feeble Cry stopped in his tracks and tilted his head toward a spot on the wall, slowly extending his finger.
The forbidden area’s walls in sub-level four were covered with blood silk, the tiny blood vessels reminiscent of some plant’s roots, intertwining and layering over the wall plaster.
Cry used his finger to push aside the blood silk on the surface of the wall, and he saw a bright flower among the complex network of blood-red threads.
The flower was tiny, only the size of a fingernail, but extremely delicate, with each petal striving to spread itself out.
As his fingertip touched the flower, the little red blossom seemed to come to life, as if it could communicate.
Cry’s finger pressed harder, and just as he was about to pluck the flower, Yinglong suddenly stopped him.
Gently lifting it, a thin root extended from beneath the small flower, connected to a rotten eyeball.
Looking further down, a corpse dressed in a security uniform was embedded in the wall, the red flower growing out of the eye socket of the body.
"This place was made like this on purpose, that flower is nothing good," Yinglong said with force in his fingers, snapping the flower’s stem. The bright red flower instantly withered, and from the broken base of the stem oozed black, stinking blood.
The flower, stunning on the outside, contained a liquid in its stem that was nauseating.
"I’ve seen this kind of flower in Beast Alley. They grow on flesh and blood, drawing nutrition from rotting corpses. They continuously wither and bloom again, a favorite of certain curses and insects," Xu Qin said, staring at the falling petals and stepping on them. Having lived in the Deep World for so long, she had lost her fondness for the romance of flowers and instead preferred the fragrance of meat.
The stench in the air grew stronger, yet more blossoms appeared on the walls, and by the time they reached the end of the corridor, everyone was stunned by the scene before them.
A huge pit had been dug out at the end of the fourth underground level, which contained a hill covered in red flowers. In the middle of that hill, where the flowers were densest, there was a blood pool the size of a basin.
"The red flowers need flesh and blood to grow; beneath this hill filled with red blooms must lie residual souls and decaying bodies."
Since entering the Deep World, Han Fei had never seen such a beautiful yet terrifying scene—it was breathtaking, suffocating, and spine-chilling all at once.
"I remember something, my master once mentioned some security guards would drink red blood; he must have been referring to the blood pool in the center of the Flower Sea," Bai Sinian said.
Before Bai could finish, Big Evil, with its body covered in spikes, rolled and leaped into the deep pit, disappearing instantly into the Flower Sea.
The incident was so sudden, no one had time to react.
The neighbors turned to look at Han Fei, who also didn’t understand what had suddenly spurred Big Evil to act.
But he wasn’t overly concerned about Big Evil; a closer look at the Corpse Mountain and Flower Sea in the pit revealed that this place was quite similar to Big Evil’s place of birth.
Big Evil was born in the Corpse Pit beneath a pet shop, where numerous animal and beast residual souls had accumulated.
Although this deep pit didn’t have any animal bodies filled with resentment, it did contain countless unjust souls and monstrous remains.
"Big Evil was bred from a beastly nature. Normally, to make a worm turn into a butterfly, a heavy dose of humanity is needed," Han Fei said.
While Han Fei was pondering, a red flower was crushed; Big Evil rapidly climbed atop the Corpse Mountain and then approached the Blood Pool.
Just as it was about to stretch its spike-covered body into the Blood Pool, the sea of blood-red flowers suddenly undulated like waves, the Corpse Mountain trembled, and a black serpentine tail whipped Big Evil down to the foot of the hill.
Petals fell through the air, withering in mid-flight, as the slanting ground rose up, and the heads of children peeked out from the Flower Sea.
Piercing laughter echoed in the deep pit, and Han Fei finally saw the full figure of the monster.
It had eight children’s heads and a lower body resembling a black snake, its body not covered in scales but marked with a strange pattern resembling butterfly wings.
"What is this thing? It looks quite fearsome; can it be kept as a pet?" Han Fei asked.
Only after touching the creature could the system provide an identification result.
"Eight heads? Wasn’t this thing in the Death Building?" Yinglong recognized the monster in the pit, surprised, "When I followed the Paperman on deliveries, I saw it in the Death Building, but back then it wasn’t this big."
