Chapter 287: Chapter 287: Flower in the Depths of the Soul?

Pair after pair of eyes stared at the continuously changing numbers on the elevator display screen, some filled with a bloodthirsty urge, some brimming with suppressed despair, and others teeming with a cold killing intent.

All of them had concealed their presence, waiting in silence.

On the black elevator display, the red number seemed to be bleeding. After about ten seconds, the elevator finally came to a halt.

The elevator doors, smeared with bloodstains, slowly opened to both sides, releasing a piercing blood stench and a heavy putrid smell that wafted through the room. Then, a hand reached out from the elevator cabin.

The hand, covered in a corpse’s scars, was a ghastly shade of gray-purple, with swollen fingers adorned with several expensive rings. As the body began to bloat, those rings were embedded tightly into the flesh, as if they had grown into it.

Dull breathing sounds emerged as the hand slowly exerted strength, dragging the corpulent corpse out bit by bit.

The hand-sewn clothes, soaked in corpse water, continuously emitted a foul stench, a tie hanging askew on a neck swollen with fat, pressed down by layers of blubber.

"Were the bookshelves moved?"

A hoarse voice came from cracked lips, reflecting an utterly hideous face in the window glass.

The foot stepping out of the freight elevator paused, as if sensing something.

After a brief hesitation, it suddenly moved backward, chubby fingers hurriedly pressing the elevator buttons.

The silver-gray elevator doors began to close but stopped halfway as if malfunctioning, unable to shut completely.

In the cramped elevator cabin, crying commenced inexplicably, and on the blood-coated walls, a pitch-black eye suddenly opened. Then, as if some mechanism had been triggered, the temperature in the entire room dropped suddenly!

Without warning, the jammed elevator doors were slowly pried open, and the elevator display lit up with two red characters — "Overload."

Pairs of pale hands emerged, followed by faces white as sheets crowding into the elevator cabin.

It’s uncertain who made the first move, but by the time the sharply-dressed monster realized what was happening, it was already trapped in the center.

It let out an uneasy roar from its throat, and wisps of dark energy emerged from under its soaked clothes.

As the crying came closer, it dashed out of the freight elevator, disregarding everything!

The crying inside the room became piercing, and eyes opened on the doors of the office.

Blood tears fell as a frail girl stood alone at the doorway, her empty eye sockets intently fixed on the monster, lips curled into a sweet smile.

The monster immediately closed its eyes, but it was a step too late. It found its movements starting to slow down, its consciousness as if being drawn by some force, seemingly about to be forcibly stripped away.

Struggling against the absorption, it gradually lost control over its body, and deep-seated despair stirred, awakening terrible memories that had been sealed away long ago.

The desperation inside stabbed at the soul like spikes, while the despair outside imprisoned the flesh like a jail cell.

In just one minute’s time, the monster could no longer struggle. Even its special ability had not been deployed, and its consciousness, soul, and mutilated body were all controlled.

"Are you the boss of this Security Company?"

Holding the Rebirth Saber, Han Fei’s method of questioning was quite unique. He didn’t care about the response; instead, he directly aimed at the other’s arm and swung the blade forcefully!

The more living beings one slaughters, and the greater the evil they commit, the sharper the Rebirth Saber becomes.

Han Fei could tell by the speed at which he slashed their arms whether they were just a common bad person or an unforgivably evil demon.

The blade swept through without any resistance, and the monster’s arm had already fallen to the ground.

The whole process was incredibly fast, so fast that the monster hadn’t even felt the pain before its eyes saw its arm dropping next to its feet.

A few seconds later, the severe pain set in, and the monster began to scream frantically.

"Who the hell are you!"

Without any questioning, it was straight to a cut upon meeting, they should have had a deep-seated hatred for each other, but the monster didn’t recognize Han Fei’s face at all. This should be their first encounter.

"Your hands are stained with fresh blood, you’ve committed greater sins than the beasts in Beast Alley," Han Fei said, staring at the writhing arm on the ground—the severed limb gave off a rotting smell and quickly dissolved into black mist.

As the black mist drifted towards Han Fei, the weeping Spiritual Altar was pushed open, and a ferocious insect crawled over, greedily devouring the black mist.

It looked satisfied and then covetously turned its gaze toward the Security Company boss’s body.

Focused on by the insect, the monster felt a chill creep down its spine; it didn’t remember offending Han Fei at all: "What are you here for? I can give you anything you want."

"Not bad for a boss, still trying to negotiate," Han Fei said with a smile, looking as innocent and clean as a blank sheet of paper.

"The building has accumulated a lot of dark energy and various items, I can take you to get them." The monster’s gaze slowly moved away from Han Fei; it saw Bai Sinian standing in the corner and rage instantly flared up: "It was him who brought you here, wasn’t it? I can’t believe this coward who couldn’t sell for a good price would dare to do such a thing."

When the monster’s gaze fell upon him, Bai Sinian also looked utterly bewildered. He was frightened by the sudden surge of grudges that appeared around him.

"He has nothing to do with it, I’m mainly here to ask you some questions and to take some things away," Han Fei said as he sat on the desk: "You should find this security uniform I’m wearing very familiar, shouldn’t you?"

The monster hadn’t noticed at first, but now that Han Fei mentioned it, it looked at the uniform Han Fei was wearing.

When it saw the special Security Guard uniform, a look of surprise flickered across its hideous, trembling face: "Are you from Death Building?"

"Where I come from isn’t important; I want to know how many guards you’ve sent to Death Building, and what’s your relationship with it?"

Upon hearing Han Fei’s question, the monster didn’t reply immediately; only when its consciousness was nearly sucked away did it give up resistance.

"I’ve lost count of how many people I sent there, but by doing so, I’m protecting more people. If I don’t select suitable people to send over, the residents of Death Building will come out on their own, and by then the whole street might become a dead street," it whimpered as it knelt, its grotesque face twisted with pain and guilt.

If Han Fei hadn’t just chopped off one of its arms, and if he wasn’t an actor himself, the monster might have actually managed to deceive him.

"No need to strain yourself acting, your acting lacks the ease of control, it looks very stiff to me," Han Fei said as the Rebirth Saber in his hand fell once more, and the monster’s other arm dissipated into black mist, much to the delight of Big Evil, which eagerly crawled over to the monster’s side.

Han Fei was decisive, as though he already knew part of the truth. Deprived of its arms, the intimidated monster wailed for mercy, no longer hiding anything: "Death Building makes me send over suitable souls regularly to be containers. They want to plant seeds deep within the souls, hoping to bloom the most special flowers."

"Flowers?"

"The seeds are the eggs of insects, and the flowers are colorful butterflies. The manager of Death Building has always wanted to create the perfect flower, but it has never succeeded. Most flowers never open, and the few that do bloom have flaws," replied the monster.

The monster’s words drew Han Fei’s attention—the butterflies inside Death Building seemed to be attempting to create another butterfly?
