Chapter 266: Chapter 266: Don’t be afraid, we are all hostages
The artificial blood plasma on his face mixed with cold sweat, sliding down Little Tong’s nose bridge, and he couldn’t fathom how things had gotten to this point.
The script clearly stated that the doctor was chasing Han Fei, so why did Han Fei suddenly turn around with a metal baton in pursuit?
In this enclosed room, the only person Little Tong could rely on was the stand-in actor next to him. Humans always stick together for warmth in the face of danger, perhaps it’s the nature of social animals.
Seeing Little Tong embracing the stand-in actor, Han Fei’s eyes squinted slightly, and his lips parted slightly, "Accomplices? Doesn’t seem like it."
Han Fei swung the metal baton in his hand forcefully, the whooshing sound entered their ears, scaring Little Tong into pulling the stand-in actor backwards.
Unintentionally, he grabbed the injured arm of the stand-in actor, causing the latter to grimace in pain, his complexion turning even paler.
In the panic, Little Tong didn’t notice these details at all.
He was just an idol singer breaking into the entertainment industry, never having experienced such events before, and now he just felt something was very wrong with Han Fei and needed to get away quickly.
Little Tong had no awareness of being a hostage, as he clutched the arm of the "kidnapper," wanting to hide in the bedroom together with him.
Seeing Little Tong pull the murderer back with him, Han Fei’s eyebrows furrowed again, and he suddenly accelerated!
Little Tong and the stand-in actor dashed backwards desperately, but the bedroom door was so narrow that the two collided with each other.
A sinister flash crossed the stand-in actor’s face as he violently pushed Little Tong toward Han Fei, then he himself ducked into the bedroom, locking the door behind him.
Little Tong, having lost his balance, fell to the ground. He watched as Han Fei rapidly approached, sitting on the floor and scurrying backwards with a shrill screams.
While Little Tong was scared out of his wits, Han Fei also reached the bedroom door and flung Little Tong to the side.
"Don’t be afraid, that guy is a murderer. I am his hostage just like you," Han Fei explained coldly to Little Tong, then aimed a kick at the bedroom door’s lock.
"You and I are both, both hostages?"
"Bang!"
Little Tong, crouched on the ground, hadn’t yet recovered when he saw Han Fei kick the bedroom door!
The door panel and lock vibrated together, and the wooden boards on the doorframe fell off.
"What kind of hostage goes kicking down the door where the murderer is hiding!"
"Bang!"
The lock fell off, and the door was kicked open.
While Little Tong was astonished, Han Fei had already entered the room.
The cold wind brushed against his cheeks, the bedroom window had been opened, and the stand-in actor stood atop the desk by the window at that moment.
His demeanor was peculiar, his face no longer showed fear and panic, replaced by numbness and pain, as if he suddenly grew tired of the world, tired of his own life.
This was completely different from his previous behavior, it felt like he had become someone else entirely.
"Is Butterfly controlling him?"
Blood Silk appeared in the stand-in actor’s eyes, resembling butterfly patterns, dense threads intertwined deep within his pupils tightening around his eyeballs, and it seemed his mind had already gone bad. He let out strange laughter and then pointed his finger at Han Fei.
"Your turn will come!"
Han Fei had already rushed toward him upon entering the room, wanting to catch him, but the other man was decisive. After uttering that sentence, he jumped straight out the window.
The stand-in actor fell from the ninth floor, seemingly only regaining lucidity after leaping out the window, his face full of terror, and from his blood-filled eyes tears of blood streamed.
Standing at the window, not sure if it was an illusion, Han Fei saw a being resembling a human hugging the waist of the stand-in actor, hiding behind him, and falling with him.
After a while, they heard the sound of something heavy hitting the ground, followed by screams from outside.
Standing inside the room, Han Fei looked at the empty bedroom.
The cold night wind blew the curtains up, and Han Fei felt a chill as well.
A living person had just vanished into the night, and perhaps in the eyes of the "Butterfly," life was nothing more than pawns and toys.
"Butterfly plays with human nature, never respecting life. It must see itself as a ’God’ in control of everything, with ordinary people merely tools to achieve its ends. This mindset also reflects its personality, what a complete asshole," Han Fei thought.
Little Tong in the living room also saw the stand-in actor jumping from the building, exclaiming in shock, his legs trembling with fear.
"You..." he couldn’t utter a word, his body shaking, as if a block of ice filled his lungs, every breath he took was chilly.
"That person wasn’t just any stand-in actor, he wanted to kill me," Han Fei said as he pulled Little Tong off the ground. "We are both victims."
The victims had driven the murderer to his death, Little Tong leaned against the wall, too scared to speak, even his breathing was cautious.
Noisy footsteps came from the stairwell, and the staff rushed into the room.
Upon entering, they saw Little Tong, pale-faced, and Han Fei standing at the bedroom door.
Three people had entered the room, but now only two remained, and the staff didn’t dare come close anymore.
A few minutes later, the police arrived.
Li Xue and two plainclothes officers made their way through the crowd and came to Han Fei’s side.
For them, ensuring Han Fei’s safety was of paramount importance because Han Fei was the key to capturing Butterfly.
"Are you hurt?" Li Xue checked Han Fei for injuries, and seeing that he was unharmed, she breathed a sigh of relief. Then she received a call from a colleague downstairs, her expression turning solemn, "The stand-in actor has lost all signs of life, my colleagues are retrieving his personal information."
A murder at the film set was a very bad omen. The warnings of the elders in the building seemed to be slowly turning into reality.
"Han Fei!" Director Zhang, quite old, gasped for air as he climbed to the ninth floor. "The camera caught footage of the stand-in actor with a knife, I also have a backup of his information here."
From the results, Han Fei indeed chased after the man, but in essence, it was still self-defense.
Combining the information from Director Zhang and the police, Han Fei also learned about the past of the stand-in actor.
The man was a former short-distance runner for the provincial team, later dismissed for fighting and brawling while intoxicated. He had a violent temper and enjoyed extreme sports. It seemed only extreme sports could provide him with the thrill he craved.
With his strong abilities and his willingness to attempt many dangerous stunts, he gradually gained some fame in the industry.
Just looking at the information provided by Director Zhang, there seemed nothing amiss, but combined with the information from the police, it was a completely different story.
The man had three girlfriends, all of whom he had violently beaten. He also had a history of long-term drug use and often posted crazy statements online anonymously.
Reading his online posts, Han Fei shook his head. Such an arrogant and insane person, when it came to the crunch, couldn’t even hold a plastic knife steady, and ended up being chased around by Han Fei, showing a ridiculously poor mental strength.
"We’ll investigate as soon as we get back and see when he came into contact with Butterfly," the police prepared to take Han Fei away, and Director Zhang nodded in agreement.
The last scene of the night had been shot, and the stand-ins for Han Fei and Bai Xian had exceeded their tasks. Their fierce chase had a special sense of reality, as if they were truly racing for life or death.
"Director Zhang, it’s better to try to shoot during the day in the future," Han Fei advised Director Zhang before leaving. He had a premonition that tonight’s encounter was just the beginning, and he was going to face an even crazier Butterfly.
"Butterfly is adept at manipulating human nature. Anyone with vulnerabilities in their soul can become a target, so I need to be careful of everything around me, whether strangers or familiar faces."
Leaving the Meat Factory Courtyard for Family, Han Fei took one last look at the old building behind him as he got into the police car.
In the building enveloped by night, the sound of Wind Chime faintly carried through the air. He could feel a gaze watching him from the darkness.
