Chapter 218: Dumpling Restaurant

Chapter 218: Chapter 218: Dumpling Restaurant

Han Fei could see that Cry wanted to become stronger, willing to leave the Happiness Residential Community, willing to follow Han Fei to face all kinds of dangers, willing to pay a heavy price.

Yet, in truth, even if he really grew stronger, he still couldn’t confront a certain part of his past memory.

He compressed all his despair at the bottom of his heart, desperately squeezing his soul, but the sadness wasn’t hidden away, instead, it pierced through his skin like needles, turning him into an increasingly unapproachable monster.

Han Fei’s palm was cut and bleeding, but he didn’t care in the slightest. Compared to the pain Cry was enduring, this was nothing.

There was no need to say much more, quiet companionship was the best comfort at this time.

It was Cry’s luck to have met Han Fei, otherwise, even if he became the most terrifying ghost, he would be unable to face his memories, because by that time he would have already become unrecognizable, turned into the monster he once loathed the most.

The spikes on his arms slowly disappeared, Cry didn’t want to hurt Han Fei, and because he didn’t want to hurt him, he began to control those spikes formed from sadness and pain.

The rampaging Cry eventually calmed down, and the sorrow within a dozen meters around him dissipated like smoke, as Cry returned to his usual self.

"He broke through?" The one-eyed store attendant Yinglong was surprised, the slim Cry now gave off a dangerous feeling: "He looks so frail, but he seems much more terrifying than an average-sized grudge."

"What do you mean by ’average-sized grudge’? Can you be more specific?" Han Fei was curious about Cry’s current strength as well.

"I am an ’average-sized grudge’ similar in height to a normal person. More terrifying than us are the ’large-scaled grudges’ like the ’Red Wedding Dress’ and that female teacher from Yimin Private Academy. Even if they condensed their grudge energy, their bodies would still be much larger than an average person’s. Above them are the top-tier grudges, who are just one step away from evolving into pure hatred, and their strength can only be described as horrific," Yinglong was utterly loyal to Han Fei, answering earnestly whatever he asked.

"However, in this city, physique is only one of the standards to judge strength by; there are many odd ghosts and fierce ghosts whose strength can’t be determined by their size alone, like the former Paperman Store Manager of the convenience store. It could fight on equal footing with large-scaled grudges, quite versatile in its methods. That day, if it weren’t for being besieged by the people in the Death Building, you probably wouldn’t have had the chance to ambush it."

"Understood, so it’s better to be more cautious, better safe than sorry," Han Fei had the grudge return to the Spiritual Altar, then he restored everything inside the barbershop to its original state before leaving.

Following the map left in his Brain Sea by the previous Building Chief, Han Fei carried the Spiritual Altar, quietly moving forward along the street.

The city shrouded in darkness exuded a sense of weirdness everywhere, many shops on both sides of the road were closed, after all, those that dared to open for business in this place were few.

After passing residential buildings, a barbershop, and a few snack shops, Han Fei gradually came to a halt.

Yinglong and Cry from inside the Spiritual Altar kept sending him warnings, signaling him to steer clear of the building ahead; this was the first time Yinglong had warned him like this.

"Yimin Pet Clinic? A pet shop?"

The nearby pet shop was decorated cozily, its sign was pink, and many photos of kittens and puppies were pasted on the glass door, looking very cute.

"The cuter the things are in the Deep World, the more deadly they are."

Han Fei’s main goal was to change his profession, and since Yinglong and Cry were telling him to avoid it, he would not force his way in.

To withdraw for now didn’t mean to let go forever; Han Fei thought it best to pick the soft persimmons first, and after all the nearby grudges had been consumed, he would then tackle this tough nut.Smacking his lips, Han Fei felt that this game really had the vibe of a gourmet cultivation and leisure experience. Tasting all sorts of ghost and monster dishes, nurturing neighbors and family, and ultimately helping them move past their pain and despair—it was simply too healing to think about.

Holding his breath, Han Fei bypassed Yimin Pet Clinic, and after walking forward for another dozen minutes, Yinglong issued another warning.

The street situated between Yimin Convenience Store and Happiness Residential Community is called Yimin Street, and Han Fei was now almost at the end of the street where an old movie theater was built at the intersection with another street.

This Heaven Cinema had a very odd name called Heaven.

Han Fei found the name very familiar; he opened his item bar and retrieved a work badge for Heaven Cinema and a large group photograph.

When Han Fei first started playing the game, Building One of Happiness Residential Community had been invaded by Outsiders, and it was from those Outsiders that Han Fei found the Heaven Cinema work badge.

The Heaven Cinema work badge was one of the triggers for the Actor profession, but right now Han Fei had no desire to visit an entirely unknown place like Heaven Cinema.

Besides, compared to the Midnight Butcher, the Actor profession was slightly less tempting.

Han Fei memorized the location of Heaven Cinema and stayed far away as he turned onto another street.

It seemed as if the city shrouded in darkness had no bounds; as Han Fei turned into another street, decrepit and eerie buildings crowded together, and unsettling sounds occasionally emanated from within.

With Yinglong and Cry issuing increasingly frequent warnings, Han Fei’s heart slowly began to race: "It should be close now! The map from the previous Building Chief shows it’s right here."

The buildings on both sides became smaller and more dilapidated, and the surroundings slowly quieted down, a desolate silence occasionally broken by the faint gleam of crimson eyes opening, and something began to stir in the uninhabited corners.

After walking for about five or six minutes, Han Fei positioned himself within the shadows, feeling no sense of safety despite the presence of Yinglong and other neighbors. This place was as if it could swallow a person whole; one wrong step would spell doom.

Moving his feet, Han Fei arrived at the backside of an old building, where on the map was marked as the place for Beast Alley. All he found was a dumpling shop that appeared to be doing good business.

A large red sign with the words "Fresh Meat" hung above, and without even approaching the door, the smell of meat wafting from inside the shop reached him.

"Is Beast Alley behind this shop? Or have I already entered Beast Alley? Why doesn’t the system give any hints?"

All the buildings exuded a very dangerous atmosphere, except that fresh meat dumpling shop was different. Inside, there were vague human figures moving about.

"Since Yinglong did not warn me, it should be somewhat safe inside."

Han Fei slowly stepped out of the shadows and pushed open the door of the dumpling shop.

A rich scent of meat filled his nostrils, stimulating Han Fei’s taste buds. In that instant, he actually felt hungry, and that hunger started to intensify.

Communicating with the grudges inside the Spiritual Altar, Han Fei discovered something even more astonishing. The ghosts hiding in the Spiritual Altar also felt hungry, seemingly affected even more strongly than Han Fei.
