Chapter 213: Chapter 213: Brother Huang, you truly deserve to be the man who has beaten Butterfly
"Were the stench and the dead birds caused by the residents here?"
Whether Bai Xian or Director Zhang, they had both been in the industry for a very long time and had seen all kinds of people.
The film crew had encountered resistance and interference from locals many times before, so when Director Zhang suggested this, several veteran actors, although still somewhat uncomfortable, did not press the issue further.
Out of everyone, only Han Fei’s expression remained icy cold; he seemed unable to step out of character, and his gaze was somewhat frightening.
The scene they were acting out was the one described by the writer in "The Butcher’s Home," the last time the nine personalities harboring Ghost Fetus all gathered together.
It was the final dinner, because soon after the meal ended, the student personality symbolizing future, happiness, and anticipation would be murdered, plunging the building into complete chaos.
The Butcher’s Home, as the name implied, meant that everyone in the room was a butcher stained with blood on their hands, with no escape.
"Butterfly must be quite familiar with this scene too, when would it make its move?"
"Han Fei! Stop daydreaming, I’ve prepared a break room for you guys on the third floor. What do you want to drink? Coffee? Or juice?"
After cleaning up the corridor, Director Zhang called the actors to the third floor, where monitors provided a clear view of the performance they had just given.
He meticulously communicated with each actor, explaining their strengths and weaknesses in an overt and clear manner. Indeed, for the younger actors to work with Director Zhang was a great benefit to their craft.
After everyone else had finished, Director Zhang turned to Han Fei. He was very satisfied with Han Fei’s performance, frankly admitting he couldn’t think of anyone more suitable than Han Fei.
"Director, are there any areas I need to improve on?"
"When you were playing Spider, even Spider’s former psychologists were shocked. They said they saw shadows of Spider in you, and even suspected you suffered from the same illness," said Director Zhang with a smile. His choice of words was quite unusual, but it was indeed a heartfelt compliment.
"Could I meet with Spider’s psychologist? After talking to him, perhaps I could grasp the character more accurately." Han Fei, under the guise of honing his acting skills, was actually preparing for the game; he needed to delve into Spider’s psyche.
"Such good acting, and yet so ambitious. If you don’t make it big, it would be an outrage against the heavens."
Director Zhang directed Han Fei to the room next door, and then he began to converse with Bai Xian and Little Tong.
Bai Xian’s acting was impeccable, fully expressing the fluctuations of the character’s inner emotions; he played it safe, but it wasn’t striking. As the male lead, he allowed his performance to be driven by the emotional influence of the supporting characters.
Little Tong’s problem was more significant. His acting was passable, but when he played scenes with the other eight actors, he clearly couldn’t keep up.
Han Fei wasn’t concerned about how the others were doing. Upon entering the room and seeing the doctor, his eyes slowly narrowed.
"Doctor Hu Wei?"
The man before Han Fei, a doctor he had once met at the detention center, was responsible for treating the psychological illness of Mingmei and her family.
"Han Fei, we meet again." Hu Wei greeted Han Fei warmly and shook his hand. "First, give me your autograph, will you?"
Looking at the paper and pen Doctor Hu had handed him, Han Fei took them but didn’t start writing immediately: "Director Zhang said you once treated Spider?"
"It was my teacher who prescribed medication and treated Spider; I was just shadowing my teacher as an intern. But because the patient Spider was so unique, the impression left on me was very deep."
"And your teacher..."
"He passed away soon after Spider died in an accident. In the last part of his life, my teacher locked himself at home, as if he had also developed some psychological issues. Alas, a healer can’t heal himself; the mental pressure on doctors like my teacher, who gave their all to their patients, was indeed enormous."
Han Fei was surprised to see Hu Wei here. He hadn’t harbored any suspicions about the man before, but his appearance was too coincidental, which caught Han Fei’s full attention.
He had questions he wanted to ask but didn’t voice them, simply engaging in light conversation with Hu Wei.
The other man didn’t show any flaws; if Hu Wei was acting, his skills were definitely no less than those of the other actors in the room.
Glancing at the time, Han Fei didn’t linger, as he had to return to play the game that night. After greeting Director Zhang, he left.
"Han Fei! Are you going back by yourself? Do you want me to give you a lift on my way?" Bai Xian had driven his car over: "It should be quite a distance from here to the hotel."
"No need, someone’s picking me up." As soon as Han Fei’s words fell, a black police car pulled up by the side of the road, with police and plainclothes officers armed and ready inside.
Bai Xian was completely dumbfounded.
"See you tomorrow, Brother Bai." Han Fei got into the police car and, as the vehicle slowly moved away, began to report to the officer sitting next to him what he had seen and heard inside the building.
With his abnormally strong memory, he recalled nearly every person’s personality and appearance and told the police about all the strange occurrences inside the building.
These were not things to be hidden; the police were Han Fei’s strong support, and he could only have a chance to contend with Butterfly by relying on their power.
At 10:30 p.m., Han Fei returned to his home.
After lying in bed, his mind was still filled with the scene of the nine actors performing together.
It was difficult to simultaneously recreate the psychological states of Spider’s nine personalities, and just when Han Fei was struggling to find a starting point, Director Zhang had called eight powerhouse actors to simulate the scene.
Although their performance was somewhat flawed, it had already given Han Fei a great deal of inspiration; at first, he couldn’t even imagine what it was like to have nine personalities, but with the help of the other eight actors, he gradually found that feeling.
Personalities born of a splintered mind were like shadows that he couldn’t shake off, dead set on entwining around him, slowly weaving into a net that left everyone breathless.
After taking a bath, Han Fei was about to get into bed to read when Huang Ying suddenly called. With the help of the police, he had begun to live a normal life, at least on the surface.
After expressing his gratitude to Han Fei, Huang Ying hoped that Han Fei could take him into the Deep World again tonight.
Huang Ying taking the initiative to make such a request seemed to suggest he had stepped out of his psychological shadow, and Han Fei sincerely felt happy for Huang Ying.
He had always been worried that he might have left Huang Ying with some sort of lingering aftereffects; he didn’t want his only friend to be a madman.
Waiting until midnight, he connected all sorts of wires and put on the gaming helmet.
As the blood color descended, Han Fei’s consciousness entered the Deep World.
Opening his eyes and looking at the incredibly real world, Han Fei sometimes pondered whether the Deep World might indeed exist in reality.
Not a virtual dependent on reality, but a reality coexisting with the real world.
A cold wind brushed his cheeks as Han Fei stood in the campus shrouded in darkness, heading straight for the sports field.
"Jin Sheng told me before that the Death Building had cursed me. In as short as seven days or as long as a month, the curse will erupt. I can’t delay any longer."
Han Fei was prepared to leave Yimin Private Academy tonight and head to Beast Alley.
However, before heading to the dangerous area, he had to fulfill his promise to Huang Ying.
Opening the Attribute Panel, Han Fei softly uttered the words "Soul-summoning."
A ghostly wind swept through, and Blood Silk covered the Attribute Panel, then tore open to both sides.
Ghost Faces emerged one by one from the Blood Sea, and Han Fei directly wrote Huang Ying’s name on one of them.
Logically speaking, there was a certain chance that Soul-summoning could fail, and it might even summon something else, but for some reason, every time Han Fei summoned Huang Ying, it was always successful.
Han Fei himself couldn’t understand, and he thought that this might be Huang Ying’s Hidden Talent.
After a flash of blood light, a figure appeared about a dozen meters away from Han Fei.
He fell to the ground, his body instantly curling up, only his eyes peeking out to stealthily survey the surroundings.
Han Fei had thought that Huang Ying had grown accustomed to the Deep World, but seeing him now, he realized there was still a long way to go.
"It’s just a school, there’s nothing to be afraid of," Han Fei shook his head. He used to think surviving in Building No. 1 of Happiness Residental Community was no big deal, but after seeing Huang Ying’s reactions, he now felt that compared to an ordinary person, he was indeed slightly different, at least mentally tougher.
Hearing Han Fei’s voice, Huang Ying got up from the ground and quickly rushed to Han Fei’s side, "That, that Security Guard didn’t come over, did he?"
"Are you talking about Old Li?" Han Fei hadn’t expected that the person Huang Ying was most afraid of would be the down-to-earth, kind-hearted Old Li, "I think you should interact with him more, Old Li is a really good guy."
"Good people or not, with a back full of ghosts, who dares get close!" Huang Ying clutched Han Fei’s sleeve, "Let’s find a secluded place first, I brought you a lot of stuff!"
The commotion from Soul-summoning had already attracted the attention of the Fierce Ghosts in the academy, and the pets of Zhang Guanxing and Xu Qin were the first to run over.
Huang Ying wasn’t too bothered by Zhang Guanxing, but when he saw Xu Qin’s pet, his legs went weak.
"This has gotta be a Black Python!"
The enormous Black Python lazily crawled over, and even tried to climb onto Han Fei, which once again gave Huang Ying a huge shock.
"Let’s talk business first; you said you brought me a lot of stuff?" Han Fei led Huang Ying and Zhang Guanxing into a classroom.
"Yes, I gave it a lot of thought and then suddenly realized something," Huang Ying opened his Item Bar, "Perfect Life’s sixth beta test will end in a few days, and all the beta accounts will be deleted and destroyed, and all the items we’ve worked hard to accumulate will vanish. But it seems like the Smart Brain doesn’t reach the Deep World. Perfect Life has been updated so many times, yet the Deep World is unaffected, so I thought if I bring things from outside into here, maybe they can be preserved?"
Huang Ying motioned for Han Fei to step back and then began frantically pulling out various items from his Item Bar, "Since the Deep World is rife with Fierce Ghosts, I deliberately expanded my backpack to the limit and bought you a large quantity of Talisman Paper, Holy Water, Buddha Statues. Here, try these and see if they work? I also have Tao Te Ching, Analects, and Mantra of Vast Righteous Energy that I scrounged from the black market."
