Chapter 474: Chapter 10 Consolation for a Broken Heart

"Talk to me, what do you really think?" Lin Xiaoguai asked, holding her hand.

"My mom told you already." Wang Zhizheng pursed her lips, "It’s just like that. I know both my parents mean well for me, and even if they don’t say it, with Ah Kun’s family situation, I just can’t convince myself to marry him."

"I’m probably just a common person," she said with a smile to Lin Xiaoguai, "I’m not ambitious, never thought about marrying my way into a better life, but having been a sparrow all my life, it doesn’t make sense for me to willingly live in a chicken coop."

"I’m very clear that I could, perhaps, endure for a while because of my feelings for Ah Kun, but a lifetime is too long."

"It’s best if you can figure it out on your own." Lin Xiaoguai didn’t think her goddaughter’s thoughts were wrong at all, the notion that love alone is enough to be content is simply not realistic.

"So, did you really run away from home this time just because you were fed up with blind dates?"

"My grandmother is too unreliable." Wang Zhizheng complained, hugging her arm, "Godmother, you have no idea about the matchmaker she found for me, what kind of people she introduced. One who looked okay but wasn’t even as tall as me, another one from a wealthy family who was so arrogant they nearly looked down their noses at people, and one who wasn’t even weaned, had to look at his mom before saying a word... each more problematic than the last."

"Yaya, are you one meter seventy now?" Lin Xiaoguai sized her up and asked.

"With shoes on, I’m one seventy, but one sixty-nine without them," Wang Zhizheng frowned and replied.

"Finding a partner with your height might be tough in the south, how about I find someone for you in the Capital?" Lin Xiaoguai suggested.

Wang Zhizheng, though only ordinary in appearance, with her bold eyebrows and big eyes looked quite spirited, belonging to the type that grows on you over time, and she had a great figure, tall and athletic, with wheat-colored skin that was not mainstream in beauty standards, but matched with the open cheerfulness in her eyes, she had a distinctive charm.

Regarding education, she graduated from a second-tier university, which nowadays may not be as prestigious as in years past, but wasn’t as common as in the future and still carried some weight.

In terms of personality, she was lively and cheerful, and to be fair, Lin Xiaoguai felt that her own kids fell somewhat short of her when it came to interacting with others.

"Better not," Wang Zhizheng said, still unaware of the kind of people her godmother normally mingled with. But as mentioned before, she wasn’t interested in marrying into a rich family.

"Don’t refuse yet," Lin Xiaoguai, guessing her thoughts, persuaded her, "I don’t only know rich young masters. Have you forgotten that I’m also the Chairman of the Charitable Foundation? Among the university students we sponsor there are many talented individuals. Should I pick a promising one for you?"

Wang Zhizheng shook her head, "Forget it, I don’t want to marry too far away."

"You don’t have to worry about that, among those people, many are orphans, and Shanghai is not much worse than the Capital. If you hit it off, you could settle down in Shanghai in the future. Or you could even bring your parents over to live together."

Wang Zhizheng was somewhat tempted, but she quickly came to her senses and said helplessly, holding Lin Xiaoguai’s hand, "I just had a breakup, godmother – since when did you start liking playing matchmaker?"

"You’re the first one, okay?" Lin Xiaoguai tapped her on the nose in dissatisfaction, "I wouldn’t bother if it were someone else."

"Okay, okay, thanks godmother, but really, it’s not necessary. I’m planning to find a job in the Capital first," Wang Zhizheng said.

"A job?" Lin Xiaoguai was surprised.

Wang Zhizheng nodded, "I can’t just be a freeloader, right? Besides, I’ve pretty much been to all the fun places here in the Capital, nothing to do just hanging around."

"From the sound of it, you still plan to go back to Shanghai in the future?" Lin Xiaoguai thought for a moment and asked.

Wang Zhizheng nodded again, "So I don’t need to find a particularly good job, just one that can support myself. Otherwise, if the job is too good, I’ll find it hard to leave when the time comes."

"How about working for the Charitable Foundation? If you want to go back later, we have a branch in Shanghai, and you could transfer there," Lin Xiaoguai suggested.

Wang Zhizheng’s face showed conflict.

"What’s wrong?"

"I was actually planning to work in your gift shop for a few months, to get a bit of experience" Despite her straightforward nature, Wang Zhizheng was still a girl, and she was somewhat eager about the currently popular gift shops.

Working as a clerk and satisfying her eyes daily would be lovely.

But realistically, godmother’s suggestion was clearly more advantageous for her.

"My gift shop is always there, anyway, it’s close to the foundation, so you can drop by every day after work," Lin Xiaoguai persuaded.
