Chapter 469: Chapter 7 Ping’an’s Little Girlfriend
Li Fangmei passed away on the fourth night after Lin Xiaoguai arrived, with Lin Xiaoguai and Shen Chi being awoken from deep sleep by Lin Xiaoxi.
"Mom, please open your eyes and look, Xiao Mei is here, the sisters have already called, they’ll be here soon," Lin Xiaoxi said, supporting himself on the bed with both hands, shouting almost at the top of his voice.
"Xiao Xi, what’s wrong with Aunt?" Lin Xiaoguai rushed downstairs without changing her clothes, in pajamas and slippers.
"Xiao Guai, be careful, don’t slip," Shen Chi, following behind her, saw that she tripped on the stairs. Though she caught the railing in time, the scene was still quite alarming, and he reminded her nervously.
But Lin Xiaoguai paid no attention, rushing straight into Li Fangmei’s room.
As she entered, she met Li Fangmei’s slowly shifting gaze and breathed a sigh of relief, glaring at Lin Xiaoxi, "Xiao Xi, why did you scare me?"
"I wasn’t trying to scare you," Lin Xiaoxi said, his voice choked up, "Mom just woke up and said ’I am going,’ and I initially thought she was overthinking, but then she couldn’t speak anymore even though her mouth was moving."
Lin Xiaoguai was stunned and quickly looked over. Indeed, Auntie’s lips were moving slightly, but no words came out.
"Auntie?"
In those old, cloudy eyes shone a faint light, full of profound affection and a smile.
She seemed to know she couldn’t speak anymore and used her eyes to comfort everyone.
Tears breached Lin Xiaoguai’s eyes, and she leaned over the bed, whispering, "Auntie..."
She actually didn’t know what to say; everything that needed to be said had been said over the last few days, but she still felt sad.
Lin Yuanyuan and Lin Jiaojiao were the first to arrive since they lived closer, but no matter how quickly they came, Li Fangmei had already closed her eyes.
"Wuu..." Lin Xiaoguai threw herself into Shen Chi’s arms and began to sob.
Lin Yuanyuan and Lin Jiaojiao also rushed to the bedside, calling out mom repeatedly, while Lin Xiaoxi clutched the edge of the bed, his eyes red and frightening to behold.
By the time Lin Tingting, Lin Haohao, and Lin Xiaoping, among others, arrived, the atmosphere in the room had turned even more mournful.
Sensing the dampness in his chest that had just stopped spreading beginning to well up again, Shen Chi frowned and half dragged, half carried Lin Xiaoguai out of the room.
The funeral was lively; at nearly a hundred years old, Li Fangmei’s passing was considered a fortunate death in the village. Moreover, with Lin Xiaoxi’s now flourishing career, many people attended.
Two aunts who didn’t visit often due to the distance sent people; as did Auntie’s maternal home, with relatives from near and far coming over, many of whom Lin Xiaoguai didn’t know. Fortunately, with the experience from Second Aunt and Second Uncle’s funerals, she recognized most of them, preventing her from becoming too flustered.
When the funeral ended, Lin Xiaoguai felt utterly exhausted and realized it was time to say goodbye.
"Xiao Mei, come back to visit when you’re free. I’ll also come to see you in the Capital when I have time," said Lin Xiaoxi, sending them off at the train station.
"I will. Xiao Xi, you should head back, there’s so much to take care of at home," Lin Xiaoguai nodded.
Shen Yinian took a plane back to school halfway, while Lin Xiaoguai and others returned to the Capital.
Once home, Shen Chi quickly immersed himself in work, but Lin Xiaoguai still struggled to bounce back, until a phone call from Han Shouzhen came.
"Xiao Guai, are you free right now?"
"Yes, what’s up?" Lin Xiaoguai answered sluggishly, chin propped up by her hand.
"Could you deliver some things to Ping’an for me? I’ve got some urgent work over here."
"Alright," Lin Xiaoguai considered.
She had been cooped up at home for several days; indeed, it was time to go out and see the sun.
Lin Xiaoguai first visited Zhi Xin Garden, looking at the items handed over by Han Shouzhen, her eyes widened, "What is this? Why is there so much?"
"Just some clothes for changing, snacks that can be kept for a long while, and some pickles made by Wan Quan. It’s not a lot, just a few dozen pounds," Han Shouzhen said nonchalantly.
"Sister, I’ve brought things for Ping’an too." Naturally, not wanting to just pass things along, Lin Xiaoguai had also prepared a lot for her nephew, as a show of her affection.
"What did you bring?" Han Shouzhen asked curiously.
Lin Xiaoguai sighed, "I made him a suit since he previously mentioned needing formal attire for some occasions. But since he’s still growing, buying suits is not only expensive but they also feel too tight, like they’re binding, and he can’t wear them for more than half a year, right?"
"I also made some homemade canned fruits. He spends a lot of time in the lab, and fresh fruits might get forgotten and go to waste. I also moved two boxes of his favorite peach-flavored nutritional fruit drinks from the store. I even freshly made some of his favorite apple crisps and yam cakes."
