Chapter 914: Chapter 886: Beast Core
Watching the short man being helped away by the tall man, Li Chen curled his lips disdainfully. "His mental strength is really lacking. Just a couple of insults, and he’s like this? If I were to really go at it, wouldn’t I be able to verbally kill him outright?"
In truth, the short man wasn’t entirely to blame. In the world of Martial Artists, it’s always been a case of the weak being preyed upon by the strong. And in the marketplace, situations like these are even more pronounced.
After all, within the same family or sect, people are still somewhat mindful of the elders.
But in a place like the marketplace, it’s entirely different—especially for young men like Ji Changfeng, who clearly have no experience. They’re prime targets for bullying, plain and simple.
Of course, the real clincher was that Ji Changfeng had been explaining marketplace matters to Li Chen earlier. When others overheard this, it was immediately clear to them that these two rarely visit the marketplace—or perhaps had never been here at all. Otherwise, there’d be no need to explain such basic things.
But what the short man hadn’t expected was that among the two, there was someone as peculiar as Li Chen.
Li Chen was definitely not some gentleman born into a family or sect, taught to nurture himself and keep smiling no matter how angry he felt.
Sure, Li Chen received decent education during his childhood. But ever since leaving Panlong Village, his life had undergone an earth-shattering transformation.
Li Chen, who clawed his way up from the very bottom, had mastered the languages of several nations. Particularly, his talent for cursing was nothing short of extraordinary.
When it came to verbal sparring, Li Chen could berate someone until dusk without ever repeating a single insult.
Yet, for someone like the short man—raised in the Enchanted World, untouched by the online realm—their psychological endurance was clearly far inferior. Even their provocations came across as so cliché that Li Chen couldn’t even bother to argue back.
As the two brothers left, Li Chen scanned the surroundings. Any onlookers who met his gaze instinctively turned their heads, pretending to admire the scenery.
Who wouldn’t fear a guy like this?
If he can’t beat you physically, he’ll verbally tear you apart!
Of course, the biggest reason Li Chen could act so unrestrained here was his strength.
Among everyone present, not a single person was an Upper Tier Profound Level expert. Similarly, no one could see through Li Chen’s cultivation level.
As such, they could only avoid provoking him and turn their attention elsewhere.
In this world where the strong devour the weak, clashing with Li Chen wouldn’t yield any benefits—so no one would willingly court trouble.
Taking Ji Changfeng along, Li Chen slowly left the street.
Throughout the walk, Ji Changfeng kept looking at Li Chen with eyes full of admiration.
"Brother Li, how are you so incredible? You cursed those guys until they didn’t dare say a word! And those two—they scampered off in such a sorry state. Just look at them, hah!"
"Changfeng." Hearing Ji Changfeng’s words, Li Chen chuckled lightly, then patted Changfeng’s head and said, "They kept quiet not because my cursing skills are strong."
As he spoke, Li Chen pointed to his own hand and continued, "They kept quiet because my fists are even stronger. They’re terrified of me, so they dare not provoke me, let alone talk back."
"This world has always been that way: only when your fists are big can your voice be loud," Li Chen said with some depth of meaning.
Ji Changfeng’s expression turned thoughtful after hearing Li Chen’s words.
Li Chen hadn’t deceived Ji Changfeng.
In his heart, he genuinely believed this to be true. Not just in the marketplace, but outside—and indeed the entire world—it had always been so.
The survival of the fittest, the jungle law, was showcased in its most vivid form.
If you’re stronger than others, your voice will carry further, and more people will come to listen to you.
Whether or not people accept it, this remains the reality.
Walking along the marketplace streets, Li Chen noticed an array of peculiar items being sold, with the currency of trade being a peculiar type of stone.
"This thing... doesn’t it look a lot like raw stones?" Curiosity flickered in Li Chen’s eyes.
Patting the still-distracted Ji Changfeng, Li Chen couldn’t help but ask, "What are those stones about?"
"Brother Li, you don’t know?" Ji Changfeng was taken aback, then quickly reacted, looking utterly shocked.
"What? Not knowing about those stones—is that odd?" Li Chen said with some exasperation.
Changfeng’s expression only grew more incredulous. "Brother Li, those are Spirit Stones that Martial Artists use for cultivation. In the Enchanted World, it’s fine, but when you venture outside, it becomes nearly impossible to absorb Spiritual Energy between Heaven and Earth. So Spirit Stones have become indispensable consumables for every Martial Artist."
"And during cultivation, using Spirit Stones as aids can greatly increase the speed of progress," Ji Changfeng explained, before giving Li Chen a curious glance. "Brother Li, just how did you manage to cultivate to your current level?"
"Ah..." Scratching his head awkwardly, Li Chen replied, "I’ve had some unique opportunities, that’s all..."
"By the way." Saying this, Li Chen pulled out a raw stone from his pouch and handed it to Ji Changfeng. "Changfeng, take a look at this. Do you recognize it?"
"Beast core?" Upon seeing the item in Li Chen’s hand, Ji Changfeng immediately pocketed it with haste.
"Brother Li, let’s find somewhere quieter to talk!"
Li Chen shot Ji Changfeng a peculiar look, but let Changfeng lead him into a secluded corner of the marketplace.
"Brother Li, where did you get this thing?" Looking at Li Chen, Ji Changfeng asked in a hushed voice, unable to hide his curiosity.
"Killed some wild beasts. Then I found it," Li Chen replied with a casual shrug.
"Wild beasts..." Ji Changfeng gulped, then spoke with some difficulty. "This is a beast core. In the past, creatures possessing beast cores were called Demon Beasts. Essentially, they’re the Martial Artists of the animal kingdom—comparable to what we are among ordinary people."
"But unlike us, these Demon Beasts condense the Spiritual Energy they absorb from Heaven and Earth within their bodies, which then forms the beast core," Ji Changfeng explained in a low voice. "Brother Li, the beast core you have must at least have come from a Profound Level Demon Beast. Even just sensing its power makes my heart race."
"Hmm." Li Chen nodded. "Seems so. That creature’s strength felt similar to that of a human at the Upper Tier Profound Level."
"Then there’s no doubt. This is a Middle Rank Profound Level beast core!" Changfeng affirmed.
"Middle Rank Profound Level?" Li Chen looked thoroughly stunned.
