"Huh? Husband, you’re back."

As soon as Lin Yi got home, he saw Li Chen lying on the couch, her face filled with lingering recollections.

"Ahem!"

Li Chen’s body sat up instantly, and with a deep, powerful voice she calmly said, "Yes, I am back."

Lin Yi looked at Li Chen curiously and walked over to her, reaching out to touch her forehead: "Are you not feeling well?"

"Uh..." Li Chen scratched her head awkwardly: "It was actually just a small matter, I came back after handling it."

Lin Yi nodded: "Right, I have a banquet to attend tonight."

"A banquet?" Li Chen was curious.

"Yeah. It’s a small banquet, but the attendees are all notables from the business world, and it’s also an opportunity to talk business," Lin Yi explained.

"Do you want me to accompany you?" Li Chen asked.

Lin Yi shrugged: "I don’t mind either way, it seems that bringing someone to the banquet is allowed."

"Okay! Then I’ll go with you," Li Chen decided.

Lin Yi gave Li Chen a strange look: "You seem quite sensitive about this banquet."

"Of course!" Li Chen asserted as if it were the most natural thing in the world: "My wife is so beautiful, she’s the center of attention wherever she goes, not to mention at a banquet like this. If someone has designs on you there, I can step in."

Lin Yi was speechless.

Others might just have designs, but you’re ready to go straight to action.

Still, Lin Yi felt happy hearing Li Chen’s words. After all, every woman would be happy knowing her man cared so much about her.

Come evening, Lin Yi brought Li Chen to the site of the banquet.

Although it was said to be a small-scale banquet, the venue was anything but small. Men and women in formal attire were everywhere, some were chatting and laughing merrily, while others looked troubled... yet forced themselves to chat and laugh.

He had attended such banquets a couple of times out of curiosity but had stopped going afterwards.

Upon hearing this, Li Chen couldn’t help but grin: "Here I was thinking he was the CEO of a Fortune Global 500 company. You had me scared for a second, turns out he’s just somebody’s son."

"Exactly," Lin Yi also pursed her lips: "This guy lacks his father’s capabilities, and he always likes to mess with all sorts of nonsense. He seems quite impressive on the surface, but if he were really to get involved in the business world, these sharks would probably eat him up so quickly that not even the bones would be left."

"That scary?" Li Chen couldn’t help but laugh.

"It’s that scary!" Lin Yi actually nodded emphatically, "The competition in the business world can be very brutal."

"Looks like my wife is still pretty amazing, huh, being able to carve out a place for herself in such a cutthroat environment," Li Chen couldn’t help but give a thumbs-up as he spoke.

"Of course!" Lin Yi held her head proudly.

"What are the two of you talking about?" A voice suddenly interjected from nearby.

Lin Yi looked over with a slight frown, but the person speaking was none other than Wang De, who had somehow made his way over.

"Just some family matters," Li Chen replied with composed grace.

Wang De looked at Li Chen with a slight frown, though he seemed to be asking both of them, in reality, his gaze was locked solely on Lin Yi.

He had also heard of Lin Yi: not only was this woman beautiful, but she was also very capable. The company under her name was one she had built from the ground up.

Today, when he saw this woman, Wang De suddenly felt a sense of amazement.

Not only was she beautiful, but she was also capable. If he could get a woman like that into bed, he reckoned he would have something to boast about for a long time within his circle.

"May I know who this gentleman is?" Wang De asked Li Chen with a smile, but the dissatisfaction in his eyes was hard to completely conceal.

Li Chen saw his displeasure and smiled even more contentedly, "Me? I’m just her husband, what else would we be talking about if not family matters?"

"President Lin, long time no see," Wang De then turned his attention away from Li Chen and towards Lin Yi, saying with a smile.

"Long time no see," Lin Yi replied indifferently, and then conversation ended there.

"Um...this gentleman really is your..." Wang De still couldn’t quite believe what Li Chen had said. Such a beauty was married, and yet there wasn’t the slightest whisper of it.

"That’s right," Lin Yi confirmed with a nod.

"Ah." Wang De thought it better to skirt around this topic and instead turned back to Lin Yi with a smile, "I have a pretty good business proposition. I wonder if President Lin would be interested in a private discussion about it."

"Hey, hey, hey!" At this point, Li Chen interjected again, "What’s this ’President Wang’? You’re asking out my wife in front of me; don’t you think you’re going a bit too far?"

"This type of behavior, in our village, you’d be beaten to death with sticks!" Li Chen said with a crooked nose and a slanted eye.

"Village?!" Wang De’s mouth twitched.

"What’s wrong?" Li Chen scoffed, "Our wedding was held in the village, and it was a grand affair. What, are you jealous?"

Wang De felt it was better not to communicate with someone like this to avoid demeaning his own status.

"President Lin, I’m very sincere..."

"Hey, I already told you to stop hitting on my wife. Beat it, did you not hear me?" Li Chen said, his face full of anger.

He had been utterly ignored.

"Old Zhao, could you please have this gentleman step aside and quiet down?" Wang De’s eyelid twitched as his face grew stern, and he turned to his bodyguard.

"Yes, boss."

Hearing the word, the bodyguard took large strides towards Li Chen, "Kid, do you want to leave on your own, or shall I help you out?"

"I’m not leaving!" Li Chen said defiantly, "You should leave! She’s my wife; what right do you have to tell me to leave?"

The bodyguard sneered, "Looks like you want to..."

"Bang!"

Li Chen kicked the bodyguard squarely in the chest, instantly sending him ’rolling’ out the door at breakneck speed.
